Ocado blocking entire road at 7.50am

Eseedeepee · 24/02/2026 08:22

On my way to work this morning at 7.50 and come across an Ocado van blocking the entire road, no way to get past and can’t reverse as it’s just beyond a bend and nowhere to turn around.

This house is on a corner so a choice of places for Ocado to park, plus they can use the trolley to park a bit further away. The van was about 4 meters from the front door.

Nobody in sight so I give a beep to let them know someone is there and can’t get past. Ocado lady comes out and doesn’t acknowledge the situation at all, no wave of sorry/ won’t be long, no speeding up etc. This is what really hit a nerve.

So I beeped again, this time out of anger more than anything, she wanders off carrying one basket at a time, so I beep again. Lady from the house comes out shaking her head at me doing T time out hands at me (I wasn’t beeping at this point).

AIBU?

Obviously if this was an ambulance, or a post man jumping out quickly, it’s different, but for me it was the audacity that someone thinks they can block the road at a busy time of day just to get their organic blueberries? And say you have a vulnerable person at the address - why can’t Ocado park a few meters further and use their trolley - isn’t that what it’s for??

I have had this but phoned the company and they stopped it happening again.

Yeah, sorry, tooting your horn at that time of the morning on a residential street makes you as inconsiderate as the delivery driver.

Lol what time do you get up?! It’s rush hour where I live. Peak tooting time!

oP yanbu. I’m an Ocado shopper as well if that helps 😀Inconsiderate parking just beyond a bend

ZemblanityZen · 25/02/2026 21:20

3 times this morning on my way to work. 3 bloody times

OnTheBoardwalk · 25/02/2026 21:28

I did ask my own Ocado driver to move the other week.

I live in a cul de sac so expect delays for deliveries however he parked blocking the road instead of in front of my driveway and spent ages with the van door shut moving and organising crates before he started on my crates

a car pulled up behind him just as he arrived and from my door waiting we were both there 10 mins. I asked him to pull in before starting my order. He had a right face on him but literally took him 30 secs to move

it’s the only time I’ve had an issue like this

jvc5 · 25/02/2026 21:31

Meh

Netcurtainnelly · 25/02/2026 21:38

It's because nobody wants to go shopping. Everything has to be delivered.
If you get your shopping delivered your part of the problem.
Same as takeaway drivers they are a nightmare they are parking across people's drives and blocking them in. They park where they want.
The average person ordering their food isn't probably thinking like that.
Someone's driveways blocked because you want a meal delivered.

intrepidpanda · 25/02/2026 21:40

Bit of patience wouldn't go amiss.
Why are you leaving yourself so short of time that waiting 5min is an issue.
Hate to see you if you encounter binmen.

Heronwatcher · 25/02/2026 21:43

I don’t think you were U to be annoyed but I wouldn’t have honked 3 times.

Could you not have got out of the car and said, “hi sorry, but I need to catch a train- could you possibly let me through or I am going to miss it?”.

Greengagesnfennel · 25/02/2026 21:44

Yanbu.
I live on a busy suburban road in and get my shopping delivered in the late evening when there is no traffic for this very reason.
this person is just being inconsiderate of others.

AgnesDurati · 25/02/2026 21:48

I have done this job for Asda. The trolley is for delivering to the 22nd floor of a block of flats. A computer optimises the sequence of deliveries and picks the "best" time to deliver your groceries. We were allowed 7 minutes per customer. If it is inconvenient ring your nearest store and ask them not to schedule deliveries at an inconvenient time. QED

Because earliest breakfast club drop off time plus train timetables are tight. One train every half hour. It’s a 5 minute drive no traffic, 10 with bad traffic, I put 4yo in early bfast club to give myself 15 minutes. I’ve taken the same train over a year and never came close to missing it.

I live in a cul de sac and this happens regularly with vans/ deliveries etc. It's infuriating as I work in a role where I cannot be late. The amount of trucks that park in the middle of the road to deliver when they c an scootch to the end of the driveways by mounting the pavement rather than block in several people trying to get to work.

The minute the selfish homeowner came out and gave a t sign would be when I started leaning on the horn, stuck up selfish bitch. I have second hand rage on your behalf.

Please report to Ocado.

TeenLifeMum · 25/02/2026 22:43

Delivering shopping is so quick - we get a big Ocado delivery for our family of 5 and pets but it takes about 3 minutes. A 5 minute “buffer” for a train is ridiculously tight. The world doesn’t revolve around you. Sometimes all the traffic lights are green and other times each one is red (or there’s an Ocado lorry delivering some food). You’re being quite mad.

WonkyConk · 25/02/2026 22:46

I had this last week with a Tesco van. It had a delivery on the high street in my tiny town, which is one way with parking spaces on the left and a fairly narrow road for driving. The van just launched itself onto the pavement on the right hand side because all the parking spaces on the left were taken in the immediate vicinity. No room for traffic to pass. The driver then proceeded to unload the baskets one by one, carry them all to the front door of the house, then rang the doorbell. No answer. Waited a while and rang again. And repeat. Eventually tries phoning the customer and again no answer, so then has to load all the baskets back into the van again, one by one. This whole thing took around 15 mins, by which time the entire town is gridlocked.

I don’t think the driver was unreasonable because she was just trying to do her job, but the customer was for booking a slot in the middle of the afternoon when people need to go about their working day, and even more unreasonable for not actually being at home when it arrived!

converseandjeans · 25/02/2026 22:56

The timing is the issue as there will be lots of people trying to get to work, drop of kids at breakfast club & so on. If I leave at 7.40 my journey takes 20mins but if I leave at 7.50 it can take an hour. 5 mins can make a huge difference.

As I said upthread, it’s legal for a delivery driver to do this, it’s not legal for you to lean on your horn.

HelenaWaiting · 25/02/2026 23:48

I'm afraid you've committed a traffic offence, OP. Horns must only be used when the vehicle is moving to warn others of danger, and using them to show frustration or "say hello" is illegal.

Friendlygingercat · 26/02/2026 01:21

My weekly Tesco delivery is saturday 9-10 so no business or school traffic to disturb. I try to schedule all my deliveries for a saturday. I live in an end/corner house but there is a vsitor bay alongside and Tesco usually park in that. They have a pull along trolly and I help them to unpack so its as quick as possible. If anyone complained they would get a mouthful from me.

Eseedeepee · 25/02/2026 18:55

Also for anyone interested, it’s illegal to block a road unless absolutely necessary (Ocado is not that) whereas honking your horn is a breach of Highway Code, and not illegal.

Interesting how people think being rude is worse than being illegal.

Regulation 99(1)(a) of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 makes it illegal to sound your horn when stationary on a road except to warn of danger.

The Ocado driver should not have blocked the road though.

As I said upthread, it’s legal for a delivery driver to do this, it’s not legal for you to lean on your horn.

As PP posted it is not legal to block the road in these circumstances, it was not essential or unavoidable and the stupid cow shushing can deal with the fallout of her selfish behaviour. Was it you?
