Does anyone else have a "wine noise" window?

I do. Every evening from about 6pm to 8pm I think OO SOME WINE WOULD BE NICE. If I don't have any by 8 (which I usually don't, don't worry readers) the urge goes away.

I don't really get it with other treats. Like I love chocolate but it's not the same.

Maybe it's the socialised guilt around alcohol?

I have this as soon as I log off from work until after I've eaten. About 5-7pm. But for me it's calorie laden beer.

NotMeAtAll · 20/02/2026 20:07

I'm not a big drinker, but I do crave a nice cocktail any time there's a discussion about booze. Now I want one.

Sillyme1 · 20/02/2026 20:16

Yes! I can usually control it by just drinking one of those minature bottles, which is around 2/3 glass whilst cooking dinner. After that I’m ok. I’m also watching calories to try and lose a stone and swimming regularly. I do t eat chocolate or biscuits or crisps etc so my little bottle is my one ‘treat’. (I can’t give up everything!)

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/02/2026 20:19

Yes, 6pm until dinner. Every day. I don't even drink with dinner, if there's any left in my glass after eating I will pour it away. I find it strange.

RaininSummer · 20/02/2026 20:24

I get gin noise sometimes but by the time I get round to it I usually just put the kettle on instead

Sometimeswinning · 20/02/2026 20:25

Yes! At the weekend. Food noise gives me ick. Wine noise not so much as it turns out.

Covidwoes · 20/02/2026 20:26

Yes! Mine is usually between 5-7pm (ish!). The urge goes away after I have eaten. I do give into this urge at weekends, however! 😆

Designless · 20/02/2026 20:36

High five everyone we made it!

Now it's time for some leftover pancake day pancakes

Yes, definitely when cooking. I keep soda water and elderflower cordial in to have instead

KimberleyClark · 20/02/2026 21:10

I get white wine noise on summer evenings. In the winter I’d just as soon have a cup of tea.

borntooobesilly · 20/02/2026 21:15

I only want a boozy drink if I haven’t eaten. If I have had a carb heavy day I find alcohol just makes me feel bloated .

Warm summer evenings. A glass of ice-cold lager with little beads of condensation on the outside of the glass. I don't even like lager.

2old4thispoo · 20/02/2026 21:22

No, I've never thought that.

Greenkitchenwalls · 20/02/2026 21:28

My alcohol trigger is the kids bedtime. Every night almost without fail I have a drink once they are in bed. Start to crave it around 6pm and will have one around 8/9pm.

Really interested in the idea of it being 5-7pm and going away with food. It's definitely not that for me, 5-7pm I'm rushing about with kids and can't think beyond chicken nuggets and lost ballet shoes and ripped reading books. It's when I see the light at the end of the tunnel (ie they are in bed) that it kicks right in.

I do also have a few whiney windows. 1990s double glazing 🙄

Olderandwiserpossibly · 20/02/2026 19:17

I thought this was a thread about some new type of double glazing OP

Haha I really didn’t know what the title could mean wrt a window.

Re op no I’ve gone off wine

hididdlyho · 20/02/2026 22:20

Yes, for me it's Saturday evenings when I've finished work for the week. Stopped drinking at the start of the year (after a boozy Christmas) and haven't really had the noise since. DH bought us a bottle last weekend for valentines day and this evening I found myself thinking how a drink would be nice after work tomorrow. I'm just going to have to remind myself it's ok to think it, but that doesn't mean I have to or should drink.

ThePoshUns · 20/02/2026 22:29

On a Friday it’s 5-7pm, once I’ve cooked and eaten I’m fine . Managed to resist this evening and am feeling good about it.

Yes me too!! Cooking is the best time.

They used to call this ‘ doing a Floyd’ Keith Floyd the chef always cooked on telly sipping a Vino! 3 sheets to the wind …

Furlane · 20/02/2026 22:43

Oh dear, maybe it’s because I’m French and we drink like fish, but I’ve never felt guilty about having a glass of wine (every day). It’s almost sacrilegious if I don’t!!

I don't think there's anything wrong with it in principle but I feel healthier having breaks (and I enjoy it more if I don't have it too often).

Yes!!! I love to have a glass of wine when I’m cooking on the weekend, if I do it usually leads to another glass when im sat watching tv, but if I don’t have one at that point I usually don’t have any at all.

BIWI · 20/02/2026 22:48

Yep. The White Wine Witch. If I'm not drinking (which I try to do at least 3 nights a week) then I've found that a can/bottle of 0% alcohol lager/IPA really hits the spot and helps to bridge the gap. Once I serve dinner. I'm happy to drink water/sparkling water after that.

ScarlettSarah · 20/02/2026 22:49

No, not at all. Craving alcohol every night is surely a sign of an alcohol problem.

No but since getting on i can't handle a glass of wine 😩

I thought it was about how tolerant you are of your drinking companion’s volume when you’re on the wine; mines can get quite loud! 😆
