To change the bedsheets

Yukono · 18/02/2026 13:19

The bedsheets are overdue a change. Really should have done them last weekend. Things have been a bit hectic. I’ve got today off so decided I‘ll change them later.

DH woke up this morning with a sore throat and a headache, and has been in bed all day so far.

I went in to put laundry away and mentioned I‘ll change the sheets later. He said that was pointless and I should change them when he’s better. Got proper arsey about it, as if he was the one changing them 🙄

Him being in bed all day makes me want to change them even more.

Would you change the bedsheets? Or put it off until DH was better?

I would leave it til he is better, else you will need to change them twice.

MrsMillyFluff · 18/02/2026 13:21

A couple of days aren't going to make much difference. Save your energy and wait till he's better.

YourWinter · 18/02/2026 13:21

I’d leave it until he’s better. Changing the bed is my most hated bit of housework, why make more work?

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/02/2026 13:22

I would defo wait until he’s better too. More work otherwise imo.

Yukono · 18/02/2026 13:23

I should add, I love having clean sheets and have felt a bit gross the past few nights because ours are dirty. I don’t mind changing them, I used to work in a hotel so I‘m pretty quick at it

gamerchick · 18/02/2026 13:23

I'd wait. They'll only need to be done again after he's sweated into them.... And you when you've caught it.

I'd be sleeping somewhere else me. Nowt worse than sleeping next to a sick body that isn't your kid.

StrawberrySquash · 18/02/2026 13:24

I would change them. Past a certain point they just don't feel nice. I'd be delighted if I was the one ill in bed! And if you don't want to sleep in them then change them for yourself!

BudgetBuster · 18/02/2026 13:26

Presumably he can get out of bed for the 10 mins it takes to swap them out? I'd personally change them, but change again in 2 days when he's not ill anymore

Arlanymor · 18/02/2026 13:32

He’s ill, I would leave him be, which means leaving the sheets a little longer. It’s crap when you’re feeling ill and someone turfs you out, even for a short time, to do something that could easily wait. See also running the hoover in the same room. Let him recover in peace.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 18/02/2026 13:32

I’d wait

dudsville · 18/02/2026 13:36

There's no right or wrong here but I'm with you, I change mine weekly, occasionally more in high summer or illness. If you wait then you'll be uncomfortable but your DH will, for some reason I can't fathom, be happier. If you change them then really you both should be happier (who wouldn't like e fresh bedding when ill?) but he'll be grumpy. Do you think he could cope with being a little grumpy? As you're so quick about it could it be done when he goes to the loo?

Screamingabdabz · 18/02/2026 13:38

I’d hate that… if I was in bed feeling shit and someone was mithering about the sheets. Just leave it until he’s up and about.

Sirzy · 18/02/2026 13:40

As much as I like clean bedsheets if I was ill and in bed and someone asked me to get up to change them I wouldn’t be impressed!

itsthetea · 18/02/2026 13:41

If you can sleep Elsewhere leave them
else change

Yeah I would tell DH to fuck right off of he started banging his n about changing the bloody sheets while I was ill in bed.

EskarinaS · 18/02/2026 13:44

Could you suggest he might feel much better after a shower? (It is true after all) and change them whilst he's in the shower?

Ophy83 · 18/02/2026 13:47

If you have anywhere else to sleep I'd leave the sheets and sleep elsewhere. If you have to sleep there I'd change them

Gasbox · 18/02/2026 13:48

I would change them and just accept they'll need doing again in a few days 🤷🏻‍♀️ Although, is DH arsey about it because he's not planning on getting up at all today or is he likely to make it downstairs at some point but just disagrees it needs doing? I don't think I'd make him get out of bed to do it but I read the OP as him just not agreeing they needed doing, not sure whether I'm right now though Confused

BauhausOfEliott · 18/02/2026 13:48

If I was ill in bed with a horrible virus I would be distinctly pissed off if someone came in and started blustering on about the sodding sheets. Leave the poor bloke alone.

Could you suggest he might feel much better after a shower?

He's a grown man, ffs. If he thought a shower would make him feel better, he'd have one.

(It is true after all)

You have no idea whether it's true because you don't know how ill he is or how he's feeling.

FuzzyWolf · 18/02/2026 13:54

He’s ill so perhaps regrets about not changing the sheets when they normally are isn’t high on his priority list right now.

icouldholditwithacobweb · 18/02/2026 13:56

I'd change them because clean bedding when I'm ill makes me feel a little better. And like you, I also feel gross sleeping in sheets that haven't been changed in over a week. I don't mind doing the bedding an extra time personally.

SecretSquid · 18/02/2026 13:59

Settle for clean pillowcases.

Yukono · 18/02/2026 14:05

I‘m not planning on turfing him out of bed so I can change the sheets. He‘s been downstairs for lunch and breakfast, and I presume he‘ll come down for dinner later so I‘ll change them then.

Yep!

We slept apart over Christmas week, as I started with that horrid fluey bug on 22nd and DP finished work on 23rd and was really poorly from Christmas Day onwards.
With us each sweating then shivering, coughing, and grumbling, we did sleep better apart.
Full bed change and rooms cleaned when we were better.

Nothing worse than getting shifted around when you are feeling rough and just want to sleep.

Hope your DH is better soon and you don’t catch it!

This would swing it for me. I can’t sleep if they need done. Change the sheets.
