To change the bedsheets

Yukono · 18/02/2026 13:19

The bedsheets are overdue a change. Really should have done them last weekend. Things have been a bit hectic. I’ve got today off so decided I‘ll change them later.

DH woke up this morning with a sore throat and a headache, and has been in bed all day so far.

I went in to put laundry away and mentioned I‘ll change the sheets later. He said that was pointless and I should change them when he’s better. Got proper arsey about it, as if he was the one changing them 🙄

Him being in bed all day makes me want to change them even more.

Would you change the bedsheets? Or put it off until DH was better?

He's been up & it hasn't impacted him.

I'd really appreciate it tbh.

Might even make me have a shower!

So many people on here are clearly in relationships where they overrule their partner’s wishes, despite them being ill, to do what they want to do, when they want to do it.

Or so many people not pandering to man flu. I think other than a broken knee, ankle and leg, DH has never stayed in bed till lunchtime or moaned about me doing things to make the house feel better.

He had a sore throat, not the plague. Get on with it.

Dont be ridiculous - "overrule their partners wishes" it was a sheet change whilst the guy was out of bed not a second mortgage on the house.

He had a sore throat not end stage leukaemia

Travelfairy · 18/02/2026 19:43

I would change them but I am super clean and that would just give me the ick..I dont go beyond a week without changing bedsheets no matter whats going on 🙈 if he's sick would he not like a fresh shower and get into fresh bedsheets. I'd be delighted if someone did that for me when I was ill!

I change mine twice a day, sometimes three or four. But I've been ill in hospital, so it's once a day now until my normal energy levels resume. However I feel minging now.

That sounds excessive- you must be washing and changing 24/7

Is this a joke?
Or do you mean "a week" instead of "a day"?

Eta Sorry, X-posted with Stopandlook

TheBlueKoala · 18/02/2026 19:52

I change everyones bedsheets every two weeks, sometimes three. No sexlife otherwise I would change them more often..

ChocolateHobbit · 18/02/2026 19:59

You see, I would feel weird sleeping in clean sheets when ill. Surely you're just spoiling them being snotty and sweaty?

Then again I can go a good month before changing sheets quite happily.

Totally tongue in cheek, in keeping with the Mumsnet obsession with changing sheets and towels every five minutes. 😊

Crazycatladywithnocats · 18/02/2026 20:07

You could make him sit in a chair next to the bed just like in hospital. 😂

Delphiniumandlupins · 18/02/2026 20:09

I would leave the bed change until he is well but if you're happy to do it again in a few days then I would appreciate the clean bedding.

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · 18/02/2026 20:11

I’d be putting some clean sheets on another bed somewhere else for me to sleep in and leaving him to fester in his minging ones! He can change them when he has the strength!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 18/02/2026 20:12

I wouldn't want to sleep in his disease sheets. Definitely change them

ananasfritz · 18/02/2026 20:13

He's probably arsey because he feels sick. I would change them if you want them changed; you could probably even do it while he's up to have a wee.

Vigorouslysnuggled · 18/02/2026 20:14

Eww definitely change them don’t be told by anyone when you can or cannot change the sheets you sleep on!

Booboobagins · 18/02/2026 20:24

He will feel better if he gets up and has a warm bath or shower. When he gets back into bed having a clean bed will be even nicer. Sell it to him...

Phew!
(Also: OMG! Have I been here so long that I actually believe some MNers might do that?
Obviously, you boil towels after every use, don't you? Please tell me I haven't got that wrong!)

Onelifeonly · 18/02/2026 21:10

If it were me being ill, I'd love clean sheets but DH is oblivious. I'd banish him to the spare room or take myself there.

luckylavender · 18/02/2026 21:13

my answer depends on when you last changed them

fatcat2007 · 18/02/2026 21:15

I would get him out of bed and not leave him in it all day! And then I would change them. Then again my mum
was an old school nurse of the school of thought that patients have to be got up and dressed in order to feel better so that’s the expectation I grew up with. If my husband didn’t let me change the sheets I would sleep in a different bed!

Boil towels after every use? Mingers - it's the bin surely!

Floundering66 · 18/02/2026 21:24

I would change them and then probably change them again in a few days if he’s spending all day in bed.

Welshmonster · 18/02/2026 22:08

Of course you can change the sheets unless he is literally bed bound and even then he might need to go to the bathroom.

when ill it’s nice to have clean sheets.

LoudPlumDog · 18/02/2026 22:50

Change them, 100%. Wait until he goes for a shower and do them then.
