Unfriending right wing friends

nondrinker1985 · 16/02/2026 16:53

One of my school mum friends of around 10 years has started sharing loads of Restore Britain/Rupert Lowe posts.

I’m actually really shocked as she’s an Irish immigrant herself.

I’ve unfriended her which is a shame as day to day she’s ok. Also another mum who has been liking and commenting on the Restore Britain posts, they’ll probably tell me they’re not racist but I can’t be arsed calling them out.

Its true. The medics come to them now. How lovely for them

Docs initially go see them when in hotels etc. To check on their health and for things like infectious disease. Seems sensible to me.

If you think a GP goes to visit them going forward at the whim of an asylum seeker, please post a link showing this to be true.

They have finally said they have cracked down on it after spending vast sums of money already. Whether they actually have will remain to be seen. Truth is not a huge feature in government comms.

Doesn’t mean it didn’t happen or was ok.

It did happen, was left over from Tory days. If it didn't happen, why would Labour ban it?! And banned it has been, with just a few exceptions.

Take that as a firm no then.

You still haven’t made any point on this given the crimes present in the EU. I take it you’ve read about those. Or not, I don’t care either way if you have or haven’t they’re still happening.

Your claims don’t stand up.

If you want to let your friends know how fickle you are just be honest with them. Explain to them how Churchill's prediction about the current anti fascists being the future fascists has come true.

Could you explain that to me?

Greenwitchart · 17/02/2026 14:50

I don't want racist, fascist, homophobic and misogynistic people in my life.

This means I don' t want to be around people who support Trump, Farage, Robinson and the likes.

Because it goes beyond "opinions" and it is about wanting to interact with people with decent values.

Would you prefer they receive no healthcare if they fall ill while their case is being assessed?

The anti fascists are now the fascists. Do you think unfriending somebody for their political ideology is showing tolerance, resilience and negotiation skills?

Why does she need to do any of that? Life is short. How is it not resilient, tolerant or 'demonstrating negotiation skills' to determine who you will and will not have in your life? Nobody is owned or entitled to your friendship.

As for deciding to unfriend somebody being 'Fascism' give me strength....

Nobody owes any other so called friend an explanation as to their politics. I hope the imaginary friend gets in first and disposes of the lightweight associate.

Your volunteering is very commendable. However, your understandable sympathy for individual cases seems to have coloured your overall view and caused you to ignore relevant facts.

A person may well have a traumatic backstory but this doesn’t automatically mean they are definitely never going to be a criminal. In fact, trauma (along with being male) is one of the biggest factors in criminality. Obviously I repeatedly say not ALL asylum seekers, but some. The stats say 75% of small boat landings are men under 40. The remaining 25% are men over 40, women and children.

As the marketing by people traffickers and obvious incentives have spread across troubled regions more effectively, the demographic of those coming is likely to have changed - certainly, UK Border Control has come across ‘asylum seekers’ popping home for a holiday or wedding for it to be raised as an issue. This is noticeable problem in Europe as well.

We know that some of the people in small boats are terrorists, rapists and murderers. This has been proven in court.

You lumping all asylum seekers together by making the assumption that they are all desperate, non criminal, worthy people is as incorrect as anyone lumping them all together to claim they are all criminals. Funnily enough, while this is often the accusation from the left, I have never seen anyone seriously claim that ‘all’ asylum seekers’ are criminals.

We know that of the far right men who demonstrate in this country a disproportionate amount have criminal records and a significant number have committed violence. Why do you think that might be? I met a number of them in my city recently - Britain's finest they are not.

Do you think the men you vehemently protect could teach British men a thing or two? Does the hard left realise that they are in tandem with Far right ideology when they ignore medieval cultural regimes?

Why do you expect anyone to show "tolerance" to racists, fascists, bigots and misogynists?

They need to be called out, not "tolerated".

Your description of those you disapprove of is subjective and presumptuous. Therefore, you have reached a dead end. Politics is about engagement and enlightenment not appeasement. Shame the government didn't get the memo.

Look at ANY news article reporting drowning deaths of migrants on social media. Look at the news articles about that little slim girl who drowned the other week. Laugh reacts. Thousands of them. Comments FULL of bigots crowing about how we need more deaths like these. Thousands and thousands of them.

Exactly this. Happy to block someone who reacts like that

She did not say her friend owes her an explanation did she?

She is simply deciding who will be part of her life.

So why, pray tell, does she need the approval of MN? If she's that sure her morals are superior to anybody else's she doesn't need validation for her choices. Luckily, her friend is more single minded.

Yeeeeeeears ago I briefly dated a guy. I decided not to continue but we remained acquaintances. I then saw on Facebook he was one of 'those people' making absolutely heartless coments about drowned migrants (and he wasn't even from the UK or even Europe).

I blocked him on everything.

Is she requesting approval from MN? Or merely opinions.

Why are you so angry at somebody you do not know deciding who she will associate with?

Did I get lost? I thought this was the AIBU section. The hint is in the question of reasonableness, not expecting nodding dog mentality. She's being unreasonable.

Somerford · 17/02/2026 15:48

I have no problem with you removing anybody, ring wing or otherwise. It's up to you isn't it, it doesn't affect anyone else. I tend to get rid of lefties as soon as they reveal themselves.

Wow, so we're fascists now if we don't want to be friends with you? Grin

You can't demand that people like you. You don't have any right to expect that people will be friends with you. Friendship is an entirely voluntary association.

Surely you wouldn't want friends who think you're unlikeable in any case? Would you really want them to continue the relationship out of pity alone?

People like that tend to be exceptionally thin-skinned. What's that word for a delicate ice crystal structure that quickly melts in the sun?...

Right. And in the awesome right wing utopia that is the US right now, this is what's going on:
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2026/feb/17/people-fired-punished-posting-charlie-kirk-death

Oh and if you're not convinced, look up this doc as well:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002kkmj/storyville-the-librarians

Good, quite right the venomous liberals' comments about Kirk's murder saw retribution. Are you really opening up a can of worms about which freedom of speech is acceptable, depending on its proponents? If the OP cares to listen, I'm sure she will learn a lot.
