Unfriending right wing friends

One of my school mum friends of around 10 years has started sharing loads of Restore Britain/Rupert Lowe posts.

I’m actually really shocked as she’s an Irish immigrant herself.

I’ve unfriended her which is a shame as day to day she’s ok. Also another mum who has been liking and commenting on the Restore Britain posts, they’ll probably tell me they’re not racist but I can’t be arsed calling them out.

They don't all get hotels, the nearest asylum seeker accommodation to me is a disused army camp.

And it is not illegal to enter the UK to seek asylum, so referring to asylum seekers as "illegals" is incorrect (and pejorative).

Some do though. And while some of those hotels look a bit grotty, some are pretty nice. They also get taxis for medical appointments or have doctors and dentists make dedicated visits to their accommodation.

The government have confirmed this.

This all works as an incentive that the people traffickers can offer.

The term used by the government for people coming in on small boats is ‘irregular’.

But we don't have uncontrolled immigration, so there's no need for anyone to be concerned about it.

We have an uncontrolled number of people entering our country by irregular means without permission.

Some of those people abscond from their accommodation. We don’t yet know how many. Some commit crimes - we know this by the convictions but the government refuse to issue wider statistics. Consider why that might be.

If the numbers showed that these people are statistically LESS likely to commit crime (or even the same as) than the rest of us, they would publish them and take away some of the ammunition of the people objecting to the presence of these people.

The absence of this information from the government is very telling.

No-one is making you racist by disagreeing with you, dear.

What makes you think I'm racist, dear?
Please, do explain in detail.

Scramado · 17/02/2026 12:07

Equality does not mean impunity. It just means that you are punished/sanctioned on the basis of what you do, not what you are. Someone who rapes, coerces or batters a woman deserves a harsh punishment, to the full extent of the law - and whatever their motives. Same rights mean same accountability. No one should be above or below the law. Everyone should have the right to defend themselves and the same risk of being punished by the law.
A lot of resentment caused by the grooming gangs derives from the fact that people felt some groups benefitted from impunity. I am strongly arguing AGAINST that. But it also means no one should be treated as less than.

Do you think as a precautionary measure, knowing that some actual criminals and terrorists are slipping in alongside all the others, we should protect the public a bit more by having secure accommodation for these men so they can’t wander freely/abscond etc?

Unfortunately the criminals don’t declare themselves upfront so should we just treat them ‘equally’ despite not knowing who they are or their background and wait until they hurt another one of us?

That might help local residents feel less unsafe and therefore less anti.

Immigrants are no longer allowed to get taxis to medical appointments.

They have finally said they have cracked down on it after spending vast sums of money already. Whether they actually have will remain to be seen. Truth is not a huge feature in government comms.

Doesn’t mean it didn’t happen or was ok.

I know someone who lives near a hotel being used by asylum seekers. They have never given her any trouble unlike the thugs throwing stones, shouting obscenities and urinating in her garden.

Jolly good. However, unfortunately she’s not the only person living near such a hotel in this country and many have a very different experience.
Has she witnessed these thugs throwing stuff and urinating into her garden? Does she know where they live?

Well that’s that settled then, sounds like it’s worth the odd sexual assault.

How would she know where they live? Yes she witnessed it. Another acquaintance saw them pushing children forward to throw the stones, presumably thinking the children wouldn't be arrested. The parents however were photographed doing this and reported to the police.

As your friend has seen this, it is therefore ok to house unknown immigrants and to hope they don’t treat British women and children the way they think is fine, where they live.

Thank goodness for your friend.

you can be friends with whoever you want for whatever reason you want. i have friends all across the political spectrum but there comes a point where i just don't want to engage with or spend time with someone (i.e. far-right fascists sharing the kind of posts you discuss in your op). i don't think there's any issue with you 'unfriending' her and would do the same.

The taxi for docs have been stopped by Labour. I guess that's how you heard about it, but chose to ignore that they've been stopped when writing?

That’s essentially your argument is it not? The benefits of helping some people outweigh the downsides of other people having their lives ruined?

@LakieLadyeven Mahmood doesn’t spread the Brexit misinformation, why do you?

Not having access to the data on criminals, as well as asylum seekers is causing us issues.
This is a direct result of brexit.

No more than criminals within the EU cause. There have been plenty of high profile crimes by asylum seekers even with a database.

Did you not read about it? I guess not.

And not all crimes are committed by already convicted criminals.

Read about what? The database is clearly not doing much in EU countries rn given the crimes they suffer.

Here’s some homework for you. Go to any of those news articles. Click into the laugh reacts, on any of the comments. Click on their profiles. Stop trying to excuse this monstrous, shitty behaviour.

But what's that got to do with this thread?
Surely you are not saying that everyone who does not agree with allowing unfettered immigration is laughing at children dying?
That shows a massive lack of common sense, critical thought and intelligence.
Why would you even think this?

Its true. The medics come to them now. How lovely for them

Vanderbilts · 17/02/2026 14:02

Regarding the boats. We can just choose to make our laws and refuse them entry here and send back to country of origin.

Many of them come here and do commit horrific crimes. British citizens come first. Data from the Nordic nations shows the disparity horrificly.

Lucky her. 2 incidents in one week near me.
Illegal immigrant standing outside his HMO (,conveniently sited opposite a primary school) showing Alan's Snackbar as the children came out.
Another one running around the locality brandishing 2 large knives, again in the vicinity of a primary school. But thats perfectly fine innit cos not every one behaves like that😬

Miggledyhiggledy · 17/02/2026 14:36

If you want to let your friends know how fickle you are just be honest with them. Explain to them how Churchill's prediction about the current anti fascists being the future fascists has come true.
