To be concerned about Jamie Oliver's kitchen

soupyspoon · 02/02/2026 20:22

I love Jamie. Wont hear a word against him

But I grow more and more 'concerned' (I like this word more and more these days, everyone has 'concerns' about something and this is mine) about his kitchen and his handling

Poor Jamie does not seem to have many bowls and spoons

He mashes up things on a wooden board with his hands

He scrunches things with his hands, no spoon available

He chops and bashes things with the wrong implements, like the bottom of a glass or something

Tonight he mashed potato on a chopping board and now scrunching up mince potato and carrot with his hands.

Then with his mincey hands he moves the bowl, touches this, touches that. No tea towels either.

Here he goes again right now, layering all his chopped veg on the worktop. Directly on it

No plates available again I see Jamie.

Is that Katie Leonard? She’s brilliant, I watch her on TikTok (never got to grips with instagram!)

on Instagram the woman is called The humble pescatarian

It's ironic given he has a range of cookware. I've got a jamie pestle and mortar. He probably uses a shoe and a shuttlecock

You win the internet today with this comment, I just spat out my tea 🤣

It’s partly to show you don’t need huge amounts of equipment. This latest series has had really good recipes

Finally I feel validated in my opinion. I said all of this to my DP yesterday and got to stop over analysing, shut up and enjoy the programme, whilst i still continue picking it apart! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I do feel a tiny bit sorry for Jamie (aside from his lack of pots). He was ever so sweet as a youngster, but seems to have become an aged boy, having never achieved “Man”.
Maybe that’s why he enjoys crushing plum tomatoes with his bare hands?

Fizbosshoes · 03/02/2026 14:58

FlowerFlour · 03/02/2026 13:28

Triple bag them, take them outside to the nearest patch of concrete and use a hammer to smash them against the ground? But if you've had to open the toolbox you've left the realm of home cooking I think.

There's no way Mary Berry has the upper body strength for this kind of destruction. I wonder how she did it.

The rolling pin was the first option I tried, and it wasnt (wo)man enough!! I also wondered at Mary's strength!

I also like it when he mashes up plum tomatoes with his hands. A good tip, often cheaper and better than chopped toms.

Although I do own a fork so Im one up on him.

Nope that made me gip. I always buy chopped toms anyway. I get a good brand which is 99% tomatoes and they are quite reasonably priced (Mutti). I don't mind my hands because I know I'm really careful about washing in between handling food etc but somehow I don't think he's that hygienic.

Oof, boiled sweet shrapnel

One of the deadliest injuries known to man.

You aren't wrong! During the cold waaaarrrrr the ration pack boiled sweets apparently fit neatly into the ends of thunder flashes which are a hand grenade simulator. Boiled sweet shrapnel was a very real threat!

Pretty sure I saw that on a video about not being a daft cunt.

soupyspoon · 03/02/2026 12:59

You can smash up the nutmeg in the shop with your shoe to get that quartered.

Thanks, that's a tip worthy of Viz.
Note to self, wear stilettos not trainers to Sainsbury's.

CherryRipe1 · 03/02/2026 16:10

I'm kind of ambivalent about him but have heard stories that he's rude and arrogant to staff or people he considers below him like barristas etc. I don't mind some of his recipes but I'm fed up with him keep saying loudly "CMON"!!!

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 03/02/2026 16:13

Talking of Mary Berry, I saw her de-stone an avocado by whacking it with a big knife , very dangerous. And Rick Stein as well.
Don't they own a teaspoon?

The knife 'hack' (am I allowed to say hack?), is a great one, works everytime, except that when you come to take the stone off the big old sharp knife, slippery round stone wedged solid on the knife, with slippery avocado covered fingers off the big old sharp knife....well you can see where Im going with this.

Oh.

I just watched it. Changed my mind. Looks delicious.and I totally get why those spuds were mashed on the board. I'm annoyed with myself

OH is also annoyed. I kept shouting at the prick...and when he put the hazelnuts in the pestle and mortar I was practically rabid in my screams of "NO!!! PUT THEM IN YOUR SHOE!!!'

Cheers all, loving watching it!

Ps - at the start he didn't half look like Harry Enfield!

No way! What a wanker

A whole group of ex emplyees had to launch legal action to recover unpaid wages and holiday pay. He only settled once it reached the courts and was threatened with a posession notice on one of his properties to be sold to pay the wages etc....he could have easily paid the money in a timely manner as had the cash.

But snipping them with scissors is a lot less messy!
ETA, always buy chopped if you can. These are the ripest tomatoes. Only the unripe ones manage to hold their shape so are used for whole tinned tomatoes.

Poor people cook and eat with their hands and Jamie is a poor person. He mashes potatoes on a wooden block like Jesus did.

I'm visualising a crossover skitshow called Jesus Oliver: The Naked Messiah. "And it's just a quick bish bosh bish, give that a bit of shake, and a little taste to check, and it's yeah we've just turned that old H20 into a nice cheeky Chianti, laverrly bubbly. Next up I'm gonna show you what you can do with just a couple of old crusty loaves of sourdough and some fish when the gang callover unexpectedly"

Credit to the poster back on page one for the vocab 😚

I have loved JO since the River Cafe/Naked Chef days. I have many of his books and we got the big stone pestle and mortar as a wedding present 24 years ago. It's still bashing up lovely!
However the Jamie's Italian stuff was terrible. He's minted and left normal people out of pocket. Shame on him!
It was a shit restaurant too. We went once with DS when he was quite small. He was very excited for pizza or bolognaise (ragu if you wish). Nope neither on the menu! He was gutted.
Carrluicos was much better. Sadly it's gone too.
We stick to local Italian restaurants these days.

I’ve got one of his mugs from about 14 years ago, was carrying it to the kitchen at work and encountered a colleague carrying a lesser, non tv chef mug coming the other way. Smashed the other bugger to pieces, no word of a lie. It was like mug conkers.
I bet he’d have that back in a heartbeat now. Think of all the hazelnuts he could smash with that bad boy.

There have been some funny posts on this thread but that had me heading for my inhaler 😂😂😂 and changing my name 😉

I can't abide that everything needs 'kissed' with a kiss of olive oil or whatever. Ew.

Re his accent, his pal Jimmy with the farm, were they not at school together? I was watching him the other day and he was positively regal in voice compared to the propah geezah Jamie.

I've no objection to calling him out for his behaviour but he can't help his tongue.

FishFingerSandwichs · 03/02/2026 17:00

Yes that’s why he was called the Naked Chef

Can the poster who said he sacked their mum tell us more?

trying not to be outing.

She had a nice job, which she loved and had been doing really good work for years and years, put her heart and soul into it, then he took over and let her go. She was really upset.

I’ve never really forgiven him.

I don’t think it’s nice to call your husband a prick. And hazelnuts in his shoe is likely to hurt. Don’t you like him?
