Did I have enough space to reverse

Big white van was parked where the green dots are. I was parked where the red dots were.

I was trying to reverse but I couldn't. Van driver moved a little but then said I had enough room to get out. I honestly don't know if I'm just a bad driver or I needed that much space. He ended up moving and I got out.

The quality of driving on the roads these days appals me

I have posted on this thread about my worries as a pedestrian when people reverse out of spaces and low and behold my safety was once again put at risk by a reversing driver.

I was in the car park of a large retail store which has a series of zebra crossings in the middle. I was in the middle of one of them when a driver in a space directly next to the crossing reversed out onto the crossing nearly hitting me. The driver was clueless and just carried on. If they had reverse parked they wouldn't have needed to do this. Please can people learn to reverse park. If you can't you shouldn't be driving.

The problem was the driver not looking - he’d probably have done the same coming out forwards. It’s often essential to drive into a spot on a retail park because you need access to the boot.

It's not essential but it might be necessary.

There's a couple of threads running at the moment about driving, one is that the driver isn't confident on faster roads so wants to drive a lot slower. I do worry about how people are being taught.

Well yes they didn't look but the only reason they needed to cross the zebra crossing was because they reversed out. If they had reversed in they could have turned out while coming forwards. The driver would have had space to access their boot if they had reversed in so that isn't an excuse in this case.

If you park in a space forwards, you come out of the store, there's a transit next to you,you can't see past it, until you are way out of the bay, you can't see through it..I'm not perfect, but did the IAM and passed with a police examiner, and agree, the standard of driving is abysmal.

The photo you have shown shows 2 lanes worth of space?? So yes, plenty of room unless you're in a bus.
