Dancing in kitchen aged 42

pringlessss · 10/01/2026 16:54

Just turned 42, 2 kids, dancing round the kitchen listening to diddly Dee song by the cartoons with my husband telling me to grow up? WTF? Yes I’m skipping around but I’m in the comfort of my own home so why not. Music is also for my enjoyment as much as the kids

God he would have hated my routine to K Pop demons before with DD, DSD and DN. Full on kitchen party 😂

ViolaPlains · 10/01/2026 20:52

He sounds nice.

RealEagle · 10/01/2026 21:22

Me and my husband have kitchen raves with the grandkids ,they love it.

Tell him to bore off! I love a kitchen disco. I have been known to dance in supermarkets/car show rooms etc when a tune comes on!

My local Morrisons plays some bangers (Stevie Wonder, Pointer Sisters etc) and I often have a little aisle dance when I'm in there.
I always wonder who's in charge of the playlist. I'd like to shake their hand!

MrsMurphyIWish · 11/01/2026 11:10

Always kitchen disco in our household every weekend however we’ll be blasting the indie, rock and thrash metal tunes! DH and I are late 40s and our kids don’t even bat an eyelid (although DD once asked whether I never left 1997).

soccermum10 · 11/01/2026 11:29

I always do it. Same age as you. Especially when I'm cooking lol

pringlessss · 11/01/2026 18:38

The only backstory, if it counts, is that in dancing to boyzone westlife and also the cartoons which he says is music aimed at a 7yo (the cartoons)

But you were dancing with children (not that their or your age is relevant). I have been known to do this with my son well into his teens and even on occasion since he was old enough to drink! We have danced many times over the years. I am 53 and now do it when I am on my own (son is at Uni). I don't recall my ex joining in but he used to enjoy us doing it. When my son was little I used to swing him round and he would laugh and laugh. Enjoy every moment of them wanting to do stuff like this with you.

Your husband is a misery.

trustedadult · 11/01/2026 18:53

This is terrible. Obviously, the rule is that you have stopped dancing at the age of 40.

🙄

Blueartichoke · 11/01/2026 19:11

Love a kitchen disco!

Any song goes! Kitchen disco fun started in this house when my Ds’s were young, they are now both teenagers and we all still love a family boogie, DH too! So much so we now have disco led lights round our kitchen island🫣

Gentlydoesit2 · 11/01/2026 19:12

Dance your socks off. ESPECIALLY with your children 😄

TheSalvadorsStickbymebaby · 11/01/2026 19:18

I get the Northern Soul on not as agile as I was bloody knees hurt but still managed a couple of records at a time.

Whatineed · 11/01/2026 19:26

He'd hate my kitchen. 😅 I have a light up disco ball, coloured led lights around the patio door that flash to the beat, and kitchen disco posters on the walls.

Today I was dancing to Ren and the Gorillaz whilst making a shepherds pie. I'm 55.

Does he often suck the joy out of things you love doing OP?

Life is short. Dance! 🕺💃🪩

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/01/2026 19:32

I’ve got a plug in disco ball that I put on when dancing in the kitchen. I’m 56. Your husband is a dick.

westcott · 11/01/2026 19:37

We love an 80s kitchen disco!

DH and I have Disco Friday. Something special for dinner, a glass of wine, we play our old vinyl and dance around the kitchen. Fairy lights, candles, we even have a glitter ball up over the table. Even our old dog would join in before she went to the great dog disco in the sky. We're in our sixties and have no intention of ever growing up.

Life goals ⭐

MrsNathanDrake · 11/01/2026 19:42

I’m 52 and still dance round the kitchen, so YADNBU

ReignOfError · 11/01/2026 19:45

My husband, who is pushing 80, always finds something nice to say about me, at 70, dancing very badly around the house. He finds it particularly charming - and bloody hilarious - when I danced with any of my grandaughters.

Your husband sound like a grumpy old git long before he’s even old.

LED lights for the kitchen you say…well now you’ve got me thinking, I love it! 😂🪩🕺

Lifeofthepartay · 11/01/2026 19:58

Same age. I always dance in the kitchen when cooking. I've caught my husband looking at me in awe with a smile on his face or videoing me before. Maybe because I am normally the serious one int he relationship and he loves to see my silly side.

Catladywithoutacat · 11/01/2026 19:59

You enjoy yourself nothing childish about this he’s a grump

🥹 That is so sweet, please never stop - very much single here (!) but the thought of finding someone to have these moments with keeps me believing!

pringlessss · 11/01/2026 20:14

To be fair I often dance by myself not with the kids. So that’s why he thinks I’m weird

Cyclebabble · 11/01/2026 20:15

I am 18 years older than you and still dance in the kitchen. I also sing into kitchen spoons. I have no plans to stop. Yes I am a grown adult woman, but I do not have to be grown up in everything I do. Go for it girl!

HorrorFan81 · 11/01/2026 20:22

I was dancing round the kitchen last night belting out power ballads. My DH came in and joined me. Then the kids got involved. Had 20 minutes of fun and hilarity. Your DH is being miserable
