Dancing in kitchen aged 42

pringlessss · 10/01/2026 16:54

Just turned 42, 2 kids, dancing round the kitchen listening to diddly Dee song by the cartoons with my husband telling me to grow up? WTF? Yes I’m skipping around but I’m in the comfort of my own home so why not. Music is also for my enjoyment as much as the kids

My friend came over the other day and as we were washing up after dinner, elvis came on the radio so we turned it up and danced around the kitchen. 45 1/2 years old.

A little less conversation dancing, a little more action washing up, please.

Devuelta81 · 10/01/2026 17:52

That's crazy! Dancing in the kitchen with my children was literally one of the things I dreamed about before I had them. And I do it on my own too (to somewhat different music). You need to tell your husband to lighten up.

mrssunshinexxx · 10/01/2026 17:54

We alwaaaaays kitchen disco love introducing the kids to our fave songs

itsthetea · 10/01/2026 17:55

DH would join in
and we don’t have the excuse of kids any more

cornbunting · 10/01/2026 17:59

Why wouldn't you sing and dance in your own home if you wanted to? Your DH is a twerp.

shhblackbag · 10/01/2026 18:03

So many men have very set ideas about how women should be. It gets very tiring.

Needlenardlenoo · 10/01/2026 18:05

There is a BBC Sounds podcast called Kitchen Disco. I suggest liberal use of it till DH gets over himself.

TheEponymousGrub · 10/01/2026 18:28

But who on EARTH voted YABU??

Ghostspritz · 10/01/2026 18:30

In my sixties and still dance in the kitchen. Just waiting for DGD to be old enough to join the party. Off now to investigate kitchen disco 💃🏻. Your DH is wrong!

YelramBob · 10/01/2026 18:36

Sophie Ellis Bextor did some amazing kitchen disco videos during lockdown, she had little kids then. OP, you dance your ass off with your kids and ignore boring husband 💃👍

TheChosenTwo · 10/01/2026 18:41

Whaaaattt??? I think you know he’s being a grumpy twat. Well I sure hope you do?
i ONLY dance in my kitchen because 1) I have no rhythm and look like I’m having a seizure when I try and 2) I don’t dance if anyone besides my family can see me 😂
We have music on in the kitchen Friday and Saturday nights when dh is cooking, we often drift in and had out and then end up dancing. It’s a joy.

ismiledather · 10/01/2026 18:45

What a fun sponge your dh is. There is no age limit on dancing!

allhailtheeyeballsinthesky · 10/01/2026 18:46

I dance in the kitchen , it's great for flexibility, I also dance in the supermarket, that would really upset your Dh. Oh and I'm in my sixties, as they say...... keep on dancing

rainbowsparkle28 · 10/01/2026 18:46

Urgh, he sounds unbearable and such a thief of your happiness it makes me sad for you. I hope I never lose the joy of or ability to dance around the kitchen to music I love (or god forbid somewhere else even in public!) - it is one of life’s pleasures. Why would he not just enjoy seeing you having a good time and join in or at least not criticise it?!

OctopusSexArm · 10/01/2026 18:47

Me and DH still put on drum n bass and have mini raves in the kitchen 🤷🏻‍♀️

Neither of us have been to a real rave in about 18 years 😂

I dance in random places too!

You've got to have some joy in life, hope I'm still dancing at 60 (I'm 41!)

Same here, I don’t yet have children and hopefully am blessed enough to one day but this is one of things I dream of being able to do and love doing for instance with my little nephews etc. when I can 🩷

Disturbia81 · 10/01/2026 18:48

Oh god. He’s one of those eternally embarrassed men who thinks he’s being “shown up” Dance wherever the fuck you want!

WinterWooliesBaa · 10/01/2026 18:56

Was he trying to cook dinner? Or have a conversation with you? Or watch something on a screen you can only watch in the kitchen? Or mend something?

other than that? Why is he so rude? If he didn't want to join in presumably you have a lounge he could have gone into?

LittleBitofBread · 10/01/2026 18:58

He’s a miserable sod. I’m 51 and love dancing—badly— while I cook and clear up.

Shhhhitsmagic · 10/01/2026 19:06

Tell him to bore off! I love a kitchen disco. I have been known to dance in supermarkets/car show rooms etc when a tune comes on!

Alicorn1707 · 10/01/2026 19:09

He's obviously never heard of Sophie Ellis-Bextor? She's bliddy ancient, all of 46.

Grumpy auld git 👴😆

Sminty2 · 10/01/2026 19:09

I’m far into my 60’s and I love a Saturday kitchen disco! Dance, Sing and love it. He’s a grump for spoiling your fun.
It’s really good cardio too.

Fiftyandme · 10/01/2026 19:13

Is he always such a killjoy?

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 10/01/2026 20:42

42 year old man here who last week managed to pull a muscle in my arm while dancing like an idiot while cooking dinner.

Your husband is an arse, if you can't make a tit of yourself in your own home then when can you?
