Hurray for Venezuela!!

ForRedPoet · 04/01/2026 20:13

So disappointed but not at all surprised at the reaction from MNetters safe and cosy who have no real idea of what 26 years run by a drug/sex trafficking dictator has been like.

You have no idea.
Reasonable methods of protest have been shut down and punished, elections are a sham. There were not food let alone arms to do a coup.

We needed an outside force. We are not stupid and contrary to comments on the other thread like "Anyone cheering that is as stupid as it is possible to be", we are sceptical but at least now we have a chance.
How dare left wing keyboard warriors be so priveledged to think they know better than people living there.

Hurray!

Have you any idea how utterly ignorant you sound? If you are not a bot I am embarrassed for you

I know it's embarrassing isn't it? Thinking the UK needs saving by a foreign power just because things are bit tough at the moment while some countries are living in war zones under despot rulers, Jesus wept I despair sometimes...

It’s not that people are unhappy Maduro is gone but that Trump has unilaterally broken international law, decided he will run a country for an undetermined period and take their oil. If his intentions for your country are good he will ensure you have a democratically elected leader asap and leave your oil and other assets alone so you can build a good economy. Many people fear that will not happen.

Well the OP says they're Venezuelan, and they and their family are pleased, so I want to know what they think. I'm not interested in random, unverified people on IG or, actually, expats. I want to know what her brother thinks about that aspect. Thanks!

The bot comment probably didn’t help in that regard, but maybe they’ll still answer

Exactly what I mean.
Posts like this.
You think you are clever supporting a murderous dictatorship that has ruined my country?
My brother lives on $6 a month. Yes a month.
We now we have oil. Trump has mentioned oil. We do not believe it is entirely from the good of his heart, but at least he has done something to help rescue us.

No more clever than supporting a war mongering paedophile I suppose…

Well said. Many of the people upset have no idea or understanding of what's going on and are just upset because of Trump.

I wish you all the very best and hope for a better future. Our friend worked with Shell in Venezuela. Someone attempted to shoot him. I have met some lovely Venezuelans and can understand the desperate need for change.

Calendulaaria · 04/01/2026 21:51

I'm so glad for you! The massive celebrations in the streets of Venezuela mean the people there are happy and relieved!

I wasn't implying the OP was a bot. I was saying that when hundreds of social media posts all use the same wording it's generally bots.

reem123 · 04/01/2026 21:52

history tells us this isn’t something to be celebrated. You only have to look at what happened in Iraq with a civilian death toll of 1 million and the theft that occurred there. I don’t believe for one minute that this was done for the Venezuelan people. It’s a mixture of an oil grab and to rock China who are the biggest buyers of Venezuelan oil. Trump is a sleazy, selfish narcissist and couldn’t give a toss about ordinary people.

WiddlinDiddlin · 04/01/2026 21:53

You've swapped one dictator for another, probably more dangerous one. I truly wish Venezuelans the very best of luck, they are going to need it.

It’s such an important question!

Don’t many Venezuelans believe Edmundo Gonzales won the 2024 elections?

Yeah, I saw those posts yesterday. They're from Venezuelans in the US. I'd like to know how people on the ground there feel about the vp, who was part and party of the Maduro regime, being installed. Despite the fact that when they had a democratic vote, which was ignored, they voted for different leadership.

Asylum for the British perhaps? I would accept, in all seriousness

Maybe he could provide asylum for the Reform voters?

I am also interested in views on this from the OP.

She is not even in the country at the moment, I don't think.
Obviously it is not great! But who else could be an interim Pm? The government is full of nepotism and corruption basically run by the cartels.

We all hope it will be someone else soon.

Well what about Gonzalez and Machado who were apparently democratically elected last year?

Do people there not blame the VP, who worked alongside Maduro, so surely participated in the abuses? Why would they trust her? Surely you have some wisdom on this?

Adding - if the government is full of corruption and run by the cartels (which is true), surely since she's been part of that government, she's hardly a saviour and not particularly trustworthy?

Many people on the ground also feel the same and many of Venezuelans in the US are either on asylum or temporary visas due to Maduro and Chavez's policies so their opinions matters.

Do you think Venezuelans on the ground prefer life under Maduro?

This is a video of Venezuelans in Caracas the capital:

Of course there is still uncertainty and apprehension about the future but I don't get this narrative by people who have never and will never experience what it is like to live under such a repressive regime trying to paint it as negative and pretend Venezuelans are upset and prefer life under Maduro.

China gets majority of its oil from Venezuela. Cream is already scooped from the top of our country. We do no expect all sunshine and roses.

Those saying it is not looking good, can I ask how many friends and family members they have seen murdered by their Government leader? How many have been killed trying to escape their country? How they try and avoid being trafficked by the cartels? How many rats they have eaten as there has been no food?

China gets less than 5% of its oil from Venezuela. 95.4% of it comes from other sources. Usually, when people so drastically misrepresent a fact, they have an agenda. American investment fled when Venezuela nationalized their oil, as was their right, and as was Venezuela’s right to make the decision to nationalize. But the fact that Trump looks on that as “stolen” infrastructure and oil, means Venezuela may get a lot worse than “no sunshine and roses.” It may go the way of all the other South and Central American countries that the US tried to fix. We should re-familiarize ourselves how those interventions went to get an idea of Venezuela’s future:

‘Naked imperialism’: how Trump intervention in Venezuela is a return to form for the US
