Blocking me is an overreaction?

Someone is selling an accent chair on Facebook, that I’d seen on the website and wanted. They’d listed it as having for a month and it not being used. Original cost was £200 and they wanted £120.

I messaged to ask if they would take £50, they sent me a laughing emoji and I said “fair, but that’s what I’m prepared to offer”

I’ve now checked back and they’ve blocked me.

Perfectly reasonable to block time wasters.

Evaka · 04/01/2026 13:41

Bit ott but that kind of offer is annoying.

Sirzy · 04/01/2026 13:41

Making sure a time waster can’t waste any more time!

PineappleMelon · 04/01/2026 13:41

Why does it matter? You both have nothing more to say to each other.

Sequinsoneverythingplease · 04/01/2026 13:41

No, you’re annoying. I’d block you too.

ItsDarkNow · 04/01/2026 13:41

I block time wasters too

Marmaladelover · 04/01/2026 13:41

I would block you too for the same reason.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 04/01/2026 13:42

People are not obliged to engage with you. You have annoyed and perhaps upset them. They’d rather give it away to someone they know than sell it to you.

It surprises me how many people think that because they want to message me, I am obliged to engage with them. I’m not. I’m sat, relaxing in my home, and don't want to argue with randoms.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 04/01/2026 13:42

They're not interested in interacting with someone who isn't going to offer what they believe is a reasonable price. Easier to block you than to have a back and forth with you.

TheCosyViewer · 04/01/2026 13:42

It’s just something they did, they don’t want to engage with you further and so blocked you. Offering £50 for an item listed at £120 probably annoyed them. Not an over-reaction, just a quick action on their part so they didn’t have yo engage with you again.

TwistedWonder · 04/01/2026 13:42

I would have blocked you for taking the piss.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 04/01/2026 13:43

Good on them.

PolkaDotPorridge · 04/01/2026 13:43

I would block you too. Stupidly low offer.

Whoneedsanamesuggestion · 04/01/2026 13:44

I would also block you.

Nopersbro · 04/01/2026 13:44

I'd have expected that. I probably wouldn't have blocked you under the circumstances, but plenty of people will if (1) they know they don't want to continue THIS unproductive conversation, and don't want to spend time justifying/explaining that and/or (2) they don't know you so won't remember you or your username, but don't want to deal with you again in the future (for example, if they sell frequently). Anyway, totally up to them who they block.

stealthninjamum · 04/01/2026 13:45

I probably wouldn’t go so far as to block you but if you made a low offer I’d see you as a time waster and ignore any other messages from you

Nevernonono · 04/01/2026 13:45

Don’t blame them, who wants to spend time on a time waster!

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 04/01/2026 13:45

I’d have thought you were taking the piss and blocked you too.

wannanamechange · 04/01/2026 13:45

Yep. Time waster and CF. I’d block.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 04/01/2026 13:47

Seems fair enough to me if they don’t want to negotiate with low ball offers. Selling on Facebook can be tedious so easier to block and filter out the annoying chancers!

X123x321X · 04/01/2026 13:48

They don't want you annoying them obviously.

Jellybunny56 · 04/01/2026 13:48

Fair enough, easier to just block time wasters

TeaBiscuitsNaptime · 04/01/2026 13:48

I wouldn't worry about it. They're probably just set on getting a higher price for it. Yes, it was a bit of over reaction and in your case it looks like it wasn't needed. They might sell a few things online and have had others messaging them trying to buy for less. It sounds like it was getting a bit annoying for them. It was no harm asking though if you didn't have it. It's often a hi light of buy and sell sites. That you might be able to get it for less

Topseyt123 · 04/01/2026 13:49

Why did you give a ridiculous offer? Surely you could see that it was already heavily discounted and they are in fact willingly taking an £80 hit on it which you just tried to increase to a £150 hit.

I suppose they could just have come back and pointed this out to you, saying £120 was their final offer, take it or leave it. That's probably what I would have done, but in all fairness £50 is a bit of a time waster type offer. Their choice to block you. Nothing you can do about it now. You should have either offered the asking price or given a much more reasonable offer. Say £100.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 04/01/2026 13:50

Why do you even care, or are you just bored today? 🤣🤣
