Blocking me is an overreaction?

Someone is selling an accent chair on Facebook, that I’d seen on the website and wanted. They’d listed it as having for a month and it not being used. Original cost was £200 and they wanted £120.

I messaged to ask if they would take £50, they sent me a laughing emoji and I said “fair, but that’s what I’m prepared to offer”

I’ve now checked back and they’ve blocked me.

OP posts:

If that was all you were willing to pay and they didn't want to sell it to you at a low ball offer, then that's ok. I probably wouldn't block, but I can see why it happened tbh.

MouseCheese87 · 04/01/2026 13:51

I wouldn't block you at that point but as an online seller I do sometimes get irritated by stupid offers so I do understand why they did it.

ColdAsAWitches · 04/01/2026 13:52

You were taking the piss. They didn't want you wasting any more of their time.

EdgeOfThirtySeven · 04/01/2026 13:53

I would have blocked you too, because you seem like the type of person who would keep messaging, trying to tell me how unreasonable I was for refusing your derisory offer, and I just cba.

Oldandgreyer · 04/01/2026 13:56

Get a friend to offer £20.

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 04/01/2026 13:56

I’d block you too. What a ridiculous offer.

BeforeSigourneyWeaverTheyWoveTheirOwnSigourneys · 04/01/2026 13:57

"That's what I'm prepared to offer" sounds arsey as fuck. I would block you too.

Mikart · 04/01/2026 13:58

I'd block you too.
And judge you.

HoskinsChoice · 04/01/2026 13:59

🎣 3/10

This is ridiculous enough to catch some but if you're really going to make this kind of troll post, you need to try harder. You could have added that you expected them to drop it off for example, probably at the other end of the country at a really inconvenient time, and £50 is a bit high, I'd probably have gone for £20. Try harder.

RunningJo · 04/01/2026 13:59

I don’t see what you’d care, unless you intended on increasing your low offer.
As a seller I’d have blocked you too because I would have thought you were taking the piss offering £50 for something I was selling for £120

SameShitDifferentDate · 04/01/2026 14:00

You can block anyone for any reason. Nobody owes a stranger on facebook a lengthy exchange where agreement is unlikely to be reached.

TittyGajillions · 04/01/2026 14:01

Cheeky fucker troll?

PrawnAgain · 04/01/2026 14:05

I'd say that taking the time to post about this on a forum is more of an overreaction than blocking you.

I occasionally sell online and immediately block entitled piss takers because they tend to elicit long drawn out conversations, rarely buy, and if they do buy cause trouble by complaining about their highly discounted item.

5128gap · 04/01/2026 14:05

Yes I'd have blocked you as I'd have thought you might be a weirdo. Firstly with a ridiculous offer, then by trying to continue to try to engage with me.

xmaspartyregrets · 04/01/2026 14:06

That’s what I do on Vinted as a seller. Laugh emoji then block

FlyingApple · 04/01/2026 14:10

I wouldn't have bothered blocking you but I wouldn't have replied either. You'd have probably found that rude also.

BunnyLake · 04/01/2026 14:13

Were you trying to re-contact them to offer full price then?

gamerchick · 04/01/2026 14:15

You made a cheeky offer as is your right, but you're now a timewaster. It's easier just to block.

Garroty · 04/01/2026 14:18

YABU. Your offer was a clear pisstake and they obviously didn't want further tit-for-tat discussion when it was clear you were never going to be the buyer. I'd have blocked you too just for the sake of finality.

euff · 04/01/2026 14:20

I don’t think it’s an overreaction to block you. They are just protecting their time from possibly having to deal with you again. It doesn’t even matter if you now wanted to pay the £120 they were looking for or whether it was worth more or less.

Shorten · 04/01/2026 14:20

You tried to hard negotiate, it backfired on you. They don’t have to sell to you, and as a result you’ve now lost the opportunity to buy the sofa completely.

Ultimately there’s no “rules” in this, they can block you if they want. Play silly games, get silly outcomes.

StephensLass1977 · 04/01/2026 14:20

I used to get loads like you when I used to sell on ebay. I would have, for example, gorgeous Zara brand new tagged faux fur coats or unworn Irregular Choice shoes (v expensive) up for sale for £25 or so, and they'd offer £1. "Aw go on, make my day" and other stupid CF comments. I didn't even take offers and had that option switched off, but they'd get round it by emailing me.

I can't blame them for blocking you. It's the fact you responsed to the laughing emoji. They thought you'd become a pest, and they're probably correct.

TwinklyWrinkly · 04/01/2026 14:20

Reverse?

I think the sellers in the OP fucked up by pricing too low. It’s an unused sofa apparently, could probably have sold for closer to the RRP. By pricing it at 40% off, they attract people like OP. I think it’s better to not go too low even if you don’t care about the money, cause you sift out the people you mention.

"Taking the piss" is a British term meaning to mock at the expense of others, or to be joking, without the element of offence. (Compare with the American "fuck with.") It is not to be confused with "taking a piss," which refers to the act of urinating. Doreen squatted over the plant pot in the garden centre before yelling over to Betty, 'There no way, I'm paying fifty quid for this!'
