Blocking me is an overreaction?

Someone is selling an accent chair on Facebook, that I’d seen on the website and wanted. They’d listed it as having for a month and it not being used. Original cost was £200 and they wanted £120.

I messaged to ask if they would take £50, they sent me a laughing emoji and I said “fair, but that’s what I’m prepared to offer”

I’ve now checked back and they’ve blocked me.

Well that's not what they were prepared to take so no need for further negotiations.
It was a cheeky low offer. They just didn't want to hear from you again.

Never mind.

QuirkyHorse · 04/01/2026 14:29

You clearly didn't want the chair that badly, otherwise you wouldn't have made an insulting offer.
You deserve to be blocked.

BettysRoasties · 04/01/2026 14:30

I’d of blocked you as well even if you had of come back with a full price offer because I’d expect you to either not turn up wasting my time or to then try and low ball me at the door.

£50 on a £120 listing is a joke and was treated as such.

HighStreetOtter · 04/01/2026 14:30

Your only response to the laughing emoji was either a higher offer or not replying to them if you don’t want to pay more. Your response sounds rude and I don’t blame them for blocking you.

WallaceinAnderland · 04/01/2026 14:31

Why do you care, you didn't want to offer more so you it doesn't matter if you're blocked does it.

Thingscouldntgetanyworse · 04/01/2026 14:31

I’d block you too.

LT1233 · 04/01/2026 14:34

I'd have blocked without doubt

Mum2Fergus · 04/01/2026 14:36

I’d have blocked you too.

Sassylovesbooks · 04/01/2026 14:37

The seller is advertising a chair for £120, and originally paid £200. You offered £50, which is £70 below the asking price. Can't you see why they blocked you?! It was a cheeky offer. It's not like you offered £100 or even £90! Everyone expects to knock a little bit off the asking price, but not that much!!

usedtobeaylis · 04/01/2026 14:38

I'd have blocked you as well. Not for the offer, but for the bizarre message afterwards as if they should be grateful for your offer or owed you something.

Isobel201 · 04/01/2026 14:39

As an example, I sold an item recently that I was happy to receive £25 for, I accepted an offer of £23 which was fine. Yours is way below the asking price, and tbh a little insulting.

Millytante · 04/01/2026 14:39

Shorten · 04/01/2026 14:20

You tried to hard negotiate, it backfired on you. They don’t have to sell to you, and as a result you’ve now lost the opportunity to buy the sofa completely.

Ultimately there’s no “rules” in this, they can block you if they want. Play silly games, get silly outcomes.

If that constitutes the start of earnest negotiating, it’s little wonder GB had such a dire reputation as a member of the EU!

MissDoubleU · 04/01/2026 14:41

CF offer. What more could you possibly have to say to them? “Thanks, kids are crying now. That accent chair would have been their Christmas present!”

Next time don’t low ball someone. It’s 4x out your price range brand new annd they anre selling it like/near new. You weren’t even willing to offer half their asking price. It’s not their problem that you can’t afford it.

Mrsknowitall · 04/01/2026 14:48

I’ve blocked time wasters too, many of them

Alovelyhotbath · 04/01/2026 14:51

Just their way of making sure they won't receive anymore ridiculous offers from you

Dragonscaledaisy · 04/01/2026 14:51

I wouldn't even have bothered replying. My time's too precious to waste.

VoltaireMittyDream · 04/01/2026 14:52

The conversation was over and they didn’t want to lay themselves open to your continued pestering.

Given how much it’s annoyed you that you can’t still slide into their DMs hassling them for discounts, they made the right call!

MaidOfSteel · 04/01/2026 14:55

More fool them. How do they know you weren’t going to come back with a much better offer.

ThatCyanCat · 04/01/2026 14:57

Were you deliberately low balling to add on later? The time to increase the offer was when they gave the initial refusal, however they communicated it. By saying that was in fact the final offer, it would seem a waste of time for them. I wouldn't have blocked you, but I can see why they might think "I don't want messages all day when they're not negotiating".

EmeraldShamrock000 · 04/01/2026 14:58

Ah well, why would you make a ridiculous offer based on the selling price. At least they had the manners to refuse your scabby offer.

BadgernTheGarden · 04/01/2026 15:00

An offer of 10% less might be considered, a derisory one gets derided, you tried a silly offer and failed why go back and try to justify it?

Theunamedcat · 04/01/2026 15:03

I would block too because it would be the start of a painstaking process ive had from piss takers before starts at fifty then it's fifty five then sixty then I will pay but you will deliver (no i wont) i will knock off the cost of the delivery driver if you dont then im sending my mate around to collect he will have the money (fun fact he did not have the money and wanted his fuel money for wasting his time) this is why my house is cluttered because getting rid of things is a trial

PinkyFlamingo · 04/01/2026 15:06

What's the issue you have?

gamerchick · 04/01/2026 15:06

MaidOfSteel · 04/01/2026 14:55

More fool them. How do they know you weren’t going to come back with a much better offer.

Because the first one was a cheek. When you sell stuff online, you learn to spot the CFs off the belt.

godmum56 · 04/01/2026 15:09

Sequinsoneverythingplease · 04/01/2026 13:41

No, you’re annoying. I’d block you too.
