The chrimbo limbo or whatever cheesy thing its called. I remember in the 80s calling it the special time between Christmas and New year in my head.

I just love it. I feel like this is the first day I have had chance to relax since I broke up from work. The madness of Christmas is done, New year not here yet. The lights are still on cosy and chilled.

I see some have taken their trees down already back to normal.

I love it too. I worked in retail for many years so I never got to fully relax.
We go on holiday every year for Xmas now so it's even better.

RecordBreakers · 27/12/2025 17:34

I agree.
I love these few days. Lie-ins, catching up with things I've missed on the tele, decorations and cards still up, everyone still eating bits of this and bits of that until all the fancy stuff runs out, not having to be anywhere for any time, but places are open for those who want to - whether that is shopping or the gym or meeting a friend for a coffee.

LynseyDenton · 27/12/2025 17:35

The gooch! It’s the best part of the year hands down 😁 I’m so happy here in goblin mode.

Grumpynan · 27/12/2025 17:37

Having a lovely day today, just me and DH, last of the visitors left this morning spent the rest of the morning finishing sorting out, had a late lunch then just chilled. Cold meats salad etc for dinner so no cooking. Got a quiet few days before visitors again for new year. Much as I love Christmas and the kids being here, this part, fridge looking tempting still, lights, and just ourselves to please

PullTheBricksDown · 27/12/2025 17:39

Me too. Totally chilled, leftovers to eat so no cooking, time to catch up with friends.

raspberrieswithchocolate · 27/12/2025 17:51

I love this time too. It's so relaxing, there's no need to rush off anywhere. I have plenty of food in, lots of snacks, the tree is still up and won't be taken down until January. It's such a cosy, quiet time and I love the twinkling lights. I'm spending the days reading and watching movies.

aLFIESMA · 27/12/2025 17:51

Beth Kempton (Calm Christmas podcast) sums it up perfectly, she calls it The Hush...

EchoedSilence · 27/12/2025 17:53

I find it a bit boring tbh. There's only so much telly to catch up on. I might go for a wander around the sales tomorrow.

Nope, I’m tetchy and a bit bored and wishing I’d booked to go away. There’s a lot of dog walking going on….

ChrimboLimbo · 27/12/2025 19:26

I love it.

Normally we are super busy but this break feeds the soul.

We have guest Christmas Eve and Day and then a break before hosting on NY. So nice to do nothing.

DorotheaXYZ · 27/12/2025 19:30

How can you be bored? Go for a walk, read a book, listen to a podcast, sort out your knicker drawer!

Quincette · 27/12/2025 19:32

Oh, we love it too. We have dossed all day, apart from 2 dog walks.

The woodburner has been raging all day, we’ve watched 2 films and done the big Times crossword. So relaxing.

I've read a book. I don't like going for a walk. Sorting out my knicker drawer sounds like the most boring thing to do ever.

TidyCyan · 27/12/2025 19:34

It's busy for us! We have a quiet Christmas at home and then do long-distance drives 27th - 30th to see family. 6 wonderful hours in queues on the M5 and M1 today.

DorotheaXYZ · 27/12/2025 19:37

How can you not enjoy going for a walk? What do you enjoy?

EcoCustard · 27/12/2025 19:38

It’s my favourite part of Christmas, lie ins, long dog walks, films, games, playing with the kids, eating chocolates & a glass of wine in front of the fire, and eating up the cheese, ham & turkey. We’re venturing out to the beach tomorrow before cosying up
in the late afternoon.

RaininSummer · 27/12/2025 19:38

Love it. By far the best part.

spideysmumma · 27/12/2025 19:39

My favourite few days of the whole year and the one time I don’t feel guilty for doing nothing (or as nothing as you can do with two young children 😅)

Not everyone likes going for a walk. I find aimlessly walking to nowhere pretty boring.

I do walk a lot at work. So I get plenty of steps in.

NeedyLimeMember · 27/12/2025 19:44

I have mixed feelings. Keeping young children entertained over this period is hard, even though they have new things to play with they are still complaining they are bored and need lots of time out of the house, whereas I'd love to stay inside and read, watch films and chill. My husband works most of the time (and then is grumpy and tired) and lots of our friends are away or doing family things. The house is a mess, the dishwashers broken and I tend to feel guilty about eating lots of crap and being out of my usual exercise routine. However it is nice to be off work and overall the kids are happy so that's what matters really.

Simplelobsterhat · 27/12/2025 19:46

I love it. Saw someone with a Christmas tree on their roof rack heading towards the tip when we drive to the beach earlier and was so sad for them - this is very much part of Christmas to me and a part I look forward to.

We mix up lazy time with visiting (sometimes hosting but usually not) family we didn't see for Xmas. There's loads of nice food in the house, decorations up, the house is usually pretty tidy from Christmas day prep, apart from piles of gifts to put away, which is a nice sort of mess! We have a hectic few days before Christmas usually as it's dds birthday abd we always host someone for Christmas, so afterwards it's our time to chill. New games, new books, TV to catch up on, films, a jigsaw, a few walks. The only time of year I really relax at home for long without feeling guilty. I might get bored of we only did that, but as we usually have some family to visit too it breaks it up.

ohfook · 27/12/2025 19:46

Oh I love it. I worked in a shopping centre for years so was always back to work on Boxing Day. Now I actually prefer Boxing Day to NYE more than Christmas Day itself. I went for a lush walk on the beach this morning then spent the rest of the day baking with the leftovers.

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 27/12/2025 19:49

I'm bored too..
Least not depressed like last year.
Think most of telly been a tad crap.
Getting some decorating done after new year.. my stairs not been painted for 3 years... need a colour change... then new carpet... im also going to get some help in to clear out my cupboards etc.. I'm far from being an hoarder.. but some things l just dont use/ need.
I want things back to " normal" now.. the streets more busy.. seeing people pass by my window.. catching up with friends... I've loads of appointments starting in January... three major surgeries next year too.. no idea which order they will come in.. .. l usually go abroad about 5 times a year and can't book anything in case ..
I'm not doing anything NYE.. l do remember years ago how l looked forward to it.. the pubs the parties.. now all we get is loud fireworks and my cat hiding under the sofa.
