To love Twixmas

The chrimbo limbo or whatever cheesy thing its called. I remember in the 80s calling it the special time between Christmas and New year in my head.

I just love it. I feel like this is the first day I have had chance to relax since I broke up from work. The madness of Christmas is done, New year not here yet. The lights are still on cosy and chilled.

I see some have taken their trees down already back to normal.

I would love it more if I wasn't back to work for the next three days. Im front line NHS and it'll be manic, as it always is from now until winter is over. I'm then off 1st until 4th so a few more days of hopefully doing not much (going to need it)

BrieAndChilli · 28/12/2025 21:25

We just chill. Watch films, watch chocolate and cheese, play board games etc

I went to the tip today. Glorious.

Were your presents that bad?

CoastalCalm · 28/12/2025 21:37

Our anniversary today , we were meant to be out tonight for dinner but I’ve been unwell so settled for fridge raids and watching a film - 13 years of tolerating each other 🤣

Doing this tomorrow - I bloody love going to the tip and clearing all the detrius

Run30 · 28/12/2025 21:49

I’ve done absolutely nothing today and it’s been glorious.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 28/12/2025 22:06

I generally like it if I’m not at work (end up working these days about every other year).

This year poor dd17 is ill so not much fun for her.

ARunByFruiting · 28/12/2025 22:09

I've never heard of Twixmas and I'm a little disappointed it doesn't involve eating twix bars 🤔😅

Anyway...

Adelle79360 · 28/12/2025 22:12

I also love it, although this year I am working the first 3 days of this week. It was a bit easier without children though, they like to keep us busy whereas I’d relax more before!

DiscoBeat · 28/12/2025 22:15

I love it. But sorry had to vote YABU for calling it Twixmas 🤮

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 28/12/2025 22:20

I love cheese week. Husband is off work and we just relax and play games. Had a friend over this evening for a few board games with the kids which was great fun

MeouwKing · 28/12/2025 22:23

Back in the day, we didn't even get New Year's Day off. 2 days for Christmas and then back to work. I think the Scots got NYD and had to forego Boxing Day. No wonder people are bored.

FairViewRosie25 · 28/12/2025 22:27

My godchildren & other halves + their parents have been over. We had loads of picky bits from Tesco plus I made a giant lasagna, it was my daughter’s 21st but we had the party on her 18th. Just a lovely happy family day xx

giveyourselfapresent · 28/12/2025 22:41

It's been absolute bliss. I've fallen into the following routine: Wake up whenever, grab Kindle and read snuggled up in the duvet till I feel like getting up, coffee with Baileys cream, cheese and crackers for lunch and then find an old film to watch in the afternoon (so far, Dr Zhivago, Bringing Up Baby and Murder on the Orient Express). I've another six days off, then a rather horrible five days of ten-hour shifts, but trying not to think about that!

When did you start work ?

New Year's Day has been a BH in England (at least) since 1974.
(Scotland since the 19th Century!)

So many parkruns Grin
I can sleep in until sunrise
The days don't get darker than this (and I'm not bored from them eeking out at 2 mins per day yet
The bulbs start poking through
It's a good time to catch up with family and friends
It's a good period for communal relaxing and rest
Pretty decorations and lights to jazz up the perma-gloom

The rest of winter can speed up to 3x speed and get to spring and functional daylight, but I'll keep this bit as a token effort at wintering around.

mumandmumber · 29/12/2025 22:17

I swing between relishing the post christmas chaos & lie ins - to getting a little antsy and anxious so have found I need a careful balance of relaxing at home, but also a little getting out and about in some way.

WareColkar · 30/12/2025 08:11

Ok I actually bought 3 different flavoured Twixes yesterday to celebrate Twixmas !

TheChicDreamer · 30/12/2025 08:20

I like this time but for me it is always interspersed with pangs of real sadness that the run up to Christmas - and the day itself - are over. To me, Advent is the loveliest time of year. I hate January - March, unless it’s sunny and cold in which case it’s bearable, so I always feel a bit sad during these days despite the chilled days and evenings by the fire being lovely.
