To love Twixmas

The chrimbo limbo or whatever cheesy thing its called. I remember in the 80s calling it the special time between Christmas and New year in my head.

I just love it. I feel like this is the first day I have had chance to relax since I broke up from work. The madness of Christmas is done, New year not here yet. The lights are still on cosy and chilled.

I see some have taken their trees down already back to normal.

I agree - it’s my favourite bit.

GellerYeller · 27/12/2025 19:57

I strongly agree with the PP who says it’s the only time to relax without feeling guilty!

December2025 · 27/12/2025 20:02

Got to say I'm amused by the people who find it absolutely shocking somebody doesn't like going for a walk I agree getting muddy wet from rain and cold is not a fun time.

hattie43 · 27/12/2025 20:03

It’s my favourite time of year . No expectations to be anywhere . Just relaxing time .

The gooch! It’s the best part of the year hands down 😁 I’m so happy here in goblin mode.

The gooch is the perineum!

The merrineum, if you will

CuriousKangaroo · 27/12/2025 20:10

I love it. My office is closed so I don’t worry about going back in facing a pile of work like I do when I go on holiday. Once Christmas Day is over (I cook every year) my hosting is over, so I can just play with DC, read, not rush about. It’s perfect. In fact, it’s the most wonderful time of the year!

ResusciAnnie · 27/12/2025 20:10

I love it too. I’ve actually started a book! I find it hard to relax and not just plan loads of stuff and projects. I love that too. But I’m trying hard to sit on the sofa and read! Enjoying it!

Isn't the Gooch the part of the body between your genitals and anus?!
And I thought twixmas was to do with a twix ...

ballroompink · 27/12/2025 20:11

I often find it quite depressing tbh. I find it hard to relax at home unless no-one will bother me and I like to have things planned in - getting out and about. As long as there are plans I'm ok. The weather is often awful and makes everything feel really flat.

Yes. This is the gooch between Christmas and New Year.

WhosMadeline · 27/12/2025 20:13

I went to the tip today. Glorious.

Mydadsbirthday · 27/12/2025 23:13

I love this thread!

We've just watched a film with our teens. Tree still twinkling, DH made a delicious pie with left over turkey and we had Yule log for pudding. This is honestly my favourite time of year.

Nit back to work until 5th Jan and planning to sort lots of stuff in the house next week, new curtains for DS room, that sort of thing.

How can you not enjoy going for a walk? What do you enjoy?

Not everyone enjoys going for a walk. Some have limited mobility and others just find it boring!

weegiemum · 28/12/2025 18:21

I’m really not well, so have been glad of the time to relax. Dh is back at work tomorrow (he’s a GP - so goodness knows how busy he’ll be!). Luckily ds is at home to look after me (I’m struggling to walk - it’s a longstanding neuro illness which has relapsed, bit like MS) and make sure the dog gets out. He’s not back at work till Hogmanay when dh has another 7 days off and I’m praying I’ll be better or at least improving because we have a holiday booked to Malaga! Looks like I’ll be in my wheelchair but it will nice to be away even if all I do is eat and drink some nice wine!

Dd2 is back at work tomorrow too and dd1 was back yesterday, but she doesn’t live at home. MIL left yesterday, she was a joy to have this year as she’s pitched in where I couldn’t. And dh has been a star, making me drinks and wee snacks and he’s also (under shouted instructions from me in the lounge) made a turkey and broccoli pie and “Christmas Dinner Soup” with all the leftover veggies and stock.

it’s our wedding anniversary tomorrow so tonight we’re sitting by the Christmas tree with some cheese and nibbles and wine. 31 years!!

ItsChristmasEve · 28/12/2025 18:26

I love it. Everyone is really relaxed, still got a week before back to normal and it makes for some really lovely days. We are eating nice food, going on long walks with the dogs, watch films and playing games.

gamerchick · 28/12/2025 18:29

I'm at work tomorrow. Pretty much back to normal, other than new year's Day.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 28/12/2025 18:37

I love it too. I have to work NYE but its just to have a manager online, no work required unless there is a crisis.

I had big plans to go to the gym every day and work off some of the Xmas guilt, but managed to injure my back so no gym....or at least not at the level I wanted..

Did manage a walk today though.

Must admit, I've looked at the decorations and considered removing them but our loft ladder broke so I need DHs help and he's at work till 1st.

Keepoffmyartichokes · 28/12/2025 18:39

Now DS is 13 and out and about with his mates I love it even more. I've been to th cinema with friends today, going for a walk on Tuesday with another friend. I don't feel guilty about doing nothing, drinking, eating chocolate. It's the best! 😂

I don't like going for a walk because it hurts.

But I'm never bored with a book

Turtlepyjamas · 28/12/2025 18:45

Christmas Eve until New Year’s day is my favourite part of the year, I love it after the busy run up. I’m a bit disappointed that the radio stations seem to stop playing Christmas music as soom
as Boxing Day is finished.

strugglingwithlife · 28/12/2025 20:36

Absolutely hate it. It's so depressing and knowing January is looming, the worst month of the year. My depression gets bad every year after Christmas, until around April, every year without fail

MummyInTheNecropolis · 28/12/2025 21:14

I love it, it’s so cosy and relaxing. I do like having things to do so I’ve got a good mix this week of long walks, meals out with friends and cosy evenings watching movies with the candles lit and tree lights twinkling. Just perfect, I will enjoy every minute!

WareColkar · 28/12/2025 21:15

No - in the past this was prime time of me making fool of myself

NotSmallButFunSize · 28/12/2025 21:18

Me too - lie ins, lounging about.... Don't understand the hate about it!

Absolutely no inclination to "get back to normal" - work, school runs, no thanks!!
