Shall we solve each other’s simple problems?

Merryoldgoat · 26/12/2025 17:46

So. I have a whole load of shit I’m dealing with that cannot be easily solved.

However I also have a variety of very straight forward issues that I could do with people helping with - so how about we all solve each other’s simple stuff??

Things I need help with and would appreciate answers from people who know:

  1. How many towels do I need for a family of four?
  2. What is the best way to keep Tupperware properly organised?
  3. What shoes do I need to be smart in all weather?

TIA?

@CanadianJohn sounds delightful, definitely go for a walk 😂

Here's mine. bra straps - the little slider thing won't stay put so I start the day with boobs supported and end the day not so much. I think the elastic shoulder straps are just too smooth. I love this bra though, it's incredibly comfortable, so buying new ones is not the answer. Anyone found a nifty way of stopping the slider thing from moving on their bra straps?

Sew it in place. A few stitches will do it.

For me, I need help with saggy skin post massive weight loss. I know it won't be able to melt away but are there any suggestions on any products that can improve the sight of saggy skin on thighs?

I am too rubbish on my phone to fing who asked about jeans but I would highly recommend these: https://www.next.co.uk/style/su758703/w58850

I am small of waist and large of thigh and they are very flattering!

Sew a few loops in to keep it steady.

Soak in milton overnight then scrub em.

Or ordinary bleach, diluted somewhat.

My lovely new toaster has these brown marks on the stainless steel (??).... Does anyone have any suggestions please as to how do I get them off without scratching it or murdering the toast obsessed teen that's probably caused it?!

I used wet scrunched up tin foil which worked nicely

My 11yo daughter (Y6) has produced a Pinterest board for her bedroom which is all red, black gothic, dark, lots of velvet and fabrics. Feels too grown-up for her. But maybe I'm just out of touch (she's a developing goth, I never have been). Decorating starts tomorrow. I've agreed on red walls.

Q: How much goth us too much goth when you're still in primary school? 🤔

Edited

Yes do it. I wasn't a goth but had black painted floorboards, 3 white walls and one dramatic red wall as an older teen. I loved it and my friends all said it was cool.

After I moved out it was painted lilac and and green a time after that. My Mum put carpet back down over the black floorboards.

When I do my bedroom next Im going to do it a rich, warm earthy red with a complementary yellow along side. I love colour.

  1. For s family of 4 you would need 12 bath sheets , 12 hand towel size and numerous face flannels . So everyone had one on the go , one in the wash , and one in the linen cupboard
  2. Tupperware I have numerous different sizes that can stack and they are in a high cupboard with the lids next to them .
  3. I don’t know lol 😂 I myself have wellies + dog walking mid calf boots + knee high boots that are smart/ casual
Tigerbalmshark · 29/12/2025 22:42

Bath sheets - we have four between three of us (two in use, two in the wash) and a hair turban for me, but we are happy to share towels and don’t all try to shower at the same time.

Tupperware and lids in baskets. Easy to pull the baskets out and rifle through them to find what you need.

My question: do I have time to get from south London to both London Zoo and Oxford Circus and back again in 3 hours tomorrow morning? I have two things to return/exchange and a meeting to get back for.

Will be tight, but if inappropriate and out, with no tube delays, it's doable.

@Alicorn1707 my phone won't let that video play, but probably yes. I think she demonstrates it with an IKEA bag. She has a huge pile of bags and makes them tiny. It's genius and works on any bags, with a little tweek in the folding if they're a different type of rectangle. I was amazed at how much less space my bags took up. I already had them folded the usual way into quarters and it still drastically reduced them using her method.

@beeeeeeez you need a reward. Something that doesn't involve spending or food (or anything else potentially harmful). Do a bit of writing, the entire thing if short, half hour of it if long, then have a small reward. Makes the day go faster.

@MrsSquirrel1013 - Thank you for your help - I couldn't get the link to work but I found them on AliExpress.

Do not store Tupperware with the lid on - even the sales people used to tell you that! It can smell, it needs to be open to the air.

I use a Sharpie and mark box and lid with the same letter or symbol. Easy to match up then.

I store all my ‘Tupperware’ with closed lids. They don’t seem to smell. Maybe they don’t smell because I always wash them in the dishwasher and leave to thoroughly dry first. I have 3 sets of nesting ones, so they don’t take up so much room. Yes I also have a lot of odds and sods too that take up room.

I think your only answer is to sew them in place.

In response to @Merryoldgoat's question about Tupperware,
I don't have enough space in my cupboard to store each container with its lid on, so I have a big plastic box for all plastic containers, and another, smaller box for lids.
Then I use a coding system whereby I'll write on each container and corresponding lid a number, symbol or letter etc.
For all items of the same size, ie, with interchangeable lids, they all get the same marking, that way I can see at a glance which lids will fit which containers.

Genius!

Ok. Next question.

What should I use in lieu of a dressing table in my bedroom? I’m limited space-wise as DH works in there but I have a lot of beauty products that create clutter.

How to keep all my stuff but also maintain a facade of organisation?

Have you space to put up a set of narrow shelves? About 10cm deep?
I have everything on narrow shelves in a combinations of wash bags, make up bags & everyday pouches from Elizabeth Scarlett.

That way it looks lovely, I group everything together, it's easy to find what I want or need.

I would say not bath sheets but smaller bath towels, they're easier to wash and dry. Hand towels are usually too small for heads so I'd probably just get three bath towels each for everybody, either all the same colour or colours that can be washed together.

Anyone know what travel mug will fit in the Philips 5400 coffee machine please? Tried 3 so far - all too tall!

@motherofawhirlwind

this site suggests max ~15cm tall

if so, something like these have good reviews and should fit

24 bottles. My husband has a travel mug from them. Not sure of the height.
He makes his coffee in a cafetière and pours it in.
