Our new neighbours who don't celebrate Christmas have decided it's ok to start jet washing the front of their house on Boxing Day! My family does celebrate Christmas and think this is really disrespectful.. does anyone agree?

I don't know. Do you stop doing the things you would normally do when it's their religious holidays? Does everyone else around them?

If not, then yabu.

DaisyDonut53 · 26/12/2025 16:18

It's a bank holiday, we gave family visiting and its really noisy!

That's your business, not theirs.

People are always gardening and doing noisy DIY on bank holidays.

BillyBites · 26/12/2025 16:21

It’ll be dark any minute so presumably they’ll stop then.

Tryagain26 · 26/12/2025 16:22

Even people who celebrate Christmas sometimes do home maintenance on Bank Holidays.
Why is it disrespectful?

pictoosh · 26/12/2025 16:22

Hmm...nah. The jet washing is okay. It's just neighbours going about their normal life.
Boxing day isn't sacred or anything.

Boomer55 · 26/12/2025 16:22

Does any religion or religious festival have a problem with jet washing? New one on me if it does. 🙄

Meadowfinch · 26/12/2025 16:22

Your neighbours have the right to enjoy their property without you getting all sour faced. i If you can't enjoy Bank Holiday without perfect silence, I guess you need a few more acres. 🙂

Arlanymor · 26/12/2025 16:25

They're doing DIY as lots of people do on bank holidays, whether they have a religious context or not. It's not remotely disrespectful. It's not midnight!

TimeForTeaAndG · 26/12/2025 16:25

Thou shalt not jet-wash your property on boxing day!

I assume you aren't all sitting outside so really, how noisy can it be. Put some music on.

paradisecircus · 26/12/2025 16:26

Wondering if their race or religion is implicitly relevant here - just a hunch

Welcome to the late afternoon episode of Jackanory.
The tale of the neighbours who don't celebrate Christmas and ensuing outrage.

St Stephen is actually the patron saint of clean masonry.

Tell them to talk more quietly then.

GinaandGin · 26/12/2025 16:27

What nonsense
Because you have visitors the whole street must be silent
Wise up

rainbowstardrops · 26/12/2025 16:29

I’m going to go against the grain and agree that it’s a bit disrespectful and shit. It’s Christmas, not a random Bank Holiday. Even if the neighbours don’t celebrate Christmas, they presumably know that their neighbours are likely to.
Jet washing is bloody noisy!

ThereAreOnlyShadesOfGrey · 26/12/2025 16:30

Load of goadie bollocks.

DelilahBucket · 26/12/2025 16:30

Gosh if you think that's antisocial OP you'd have a shock living next door to our neighbours.

wombat1a · 26/12/2025 16:31

Its a bank holiday, what is the problem?
