Antisocial new neighbour

Our new neighbours who don't celebrate Christmas have decided it's ok to start jet washing the front of their house on Boxing Day! My family does celebrate Christmas and think this is really disrespectful.. does anyone agree?

OP posts:

I’m going to go against the grain and agree that it’s a bit disrespectful and shit. It’s Christmas, not a random Bank Holiday. Even if the neighbours don’t celebrate Christmas, they presumably know that their neighbours are likely to.
Jet washing is bloody noisy!

No it isn’t. Christmas was yesterday. Boxing Day isn’t a religious holiday, they don’t have Boxing Day in other countries…

Happyjoe · 26/12/2025 17:12

I don't get jet washing the front of a house. Do you mean paving? Surely not the house itself.

Exactly, the Victorians pretty much made boxing day a thing.

TBH, your comment made me laugh ...

but of all the saints not to like masonry, I think St Stephen would be one since he was stoned to death ...

You don’t want to be stoned with dirty masonry.

Does any religion or religious festival have a problem with jet washing? New one on me if it does. 🙄

Commandment 11: Thou shalt not jetwash on days near a sabbath or holy day or whatever.

ChungkingAshes · 26/12/2025 17:21

rainbowstardrops · 26/12/2025 16:45

There’s a big difference between being quiet and jet washing. You can use your brain and be respectful. Just like I wouldn’t go and mow my grass if I knew next door had family around for a BBQ.
I assume the OP is referring to immediate neighbours, so if I knew my next door neighbour was celebrating a special date, yeah, I’d be respectful.
Maybe the world needs more of that?

I just don’t see jet washing as being disrespectful to anyone. It’s not that noisy and unless it’s the middle of the night I really couldn’t get worked up. It’s not even like they did it on Christmas Day either.

That’s Old Testament though. I believe Jesus said “Blessed are the jet washers for they will be called children of God”

Or to paraphrase Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened with jetwashers, and I will give you rest and a mince pie.”

Spirallingdownwards · 26/12/2025 17:31

How rude of your guests to turn up by car when they are jet washing their house. The fumes mean they will probably be out there longer now.

It's a bank holiday, we gave family visiting and its really noisy!

The bastards!! Send them to confession!!

WearyAuldWumman · 26/12/2025 17:32

I celebrate Christmas. This afternoon, I hammered in replacement metal posts for my back boundary - the originals have been knocked over by children and some adults taking short cuts.

Oioisavaloy27 · 26/12/2025 17:34

The world doesn't revolve around you, perhaps they are back in work tomorrow it's outside so not sure how it's affecting you.

RocketPanda · 26/12/2025 17:35

I bet Jesus would've loved a jet washer. The baptisms would have been great craic.

He’d have turned it into wine.

WhatMe123 · 26/12/2025 17:38

Maybe it's their only time off work to get a job done. It's bank holiday for everyone 😬

I know this version of Matthew. The Janitors translation.

Mat 4:19-20 "And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you jetwashers of men. And they straightway left their mops, and followed him."

HashtagShitShop · 26/12/2025 17:42

So close your windows, out the telly on for background noise or put some Christmas music on play some games etc.

This doesn't bother me, I'd swap you for my neighbour whose youngest is 18. She has three in total between 18 and 25 and they scream (literal kidnapping sound screaming), boom music, shriek over the music to each other cos it's so loud, have parties going on in to the early hours what feels like daily (at least 3/4 times a week) and appear to be growing drugs given the strength of the cannabis smell that wafts through our upstairs and the house of the neighbour the other side. Neither the council or the police are interested in doing a thing about it despite complaints.

You know such a post is going to get a barrage of questions :-)

I will start.

Did you make sure the empty bottles went in the correct bin ?

See? OP needs to live in Germany. You're not allowed to put glass bottles in the bottle bank on bank holidays. Or Sundays. Or before 7am. Or after 10pm

ETA: @ThereAreOnlyShadesOfGrey in Germany today is officially the 2nd Christmas day. And it is St Stephen's day. My church - 20m from my house - is St Stephens. Bells all day. Thst noise is allowed
