My dog died today.

not Aibu but I had to have my 4year old gsd euthanised this morning. My heart feels like it’s going to just break in two. I’ve never known pain like it.

I'm not a dog person myself, but for the 5% that voted YABU - get a fucking grip.

Thank you all for your messages and shared stories. So many pets who were so loved. I just feel hollow. My family and friends are concerned because I’m not distraught or distressed as they expected. I just feel nothing.
i feel so disconnected from everything. Is this grief? It’s like nothing I’ve experienced before.

Your grief is personal to you. There is no right or wrong way to feel.
For me, much of the time I still feel stupefied and just sit wishing my boy was by my side.
When I have been hosting for a crowd I have been distracted and whilst not my usual self I appear fine.
Time will pass and our feelings will change. Our love for our dogs will remain.
