My dog died today.

not Aibu but I had to have my 4year old gsd euthanised this morning. My heart feels like it’s going to just break in two. I’ve never known pain like it.

How awful. Especially at Christmas.
Someone mentioned a pet bereavement group earlier.

I am sorry you lost your special friend, I know they are just pets but they are so dear to us. I hope you could have a proper goodbye and that once you recover from the pain a little bit, you celebrate his life well💐

I’m so sorry. I have never owned a dog, but I helped my lovely neighbour lift her dog into the car on what would be its last journey to the vet and I saw how utterly bereft she was.

Thank goodness your dog is one of the fortunate doggies who has had a happy loving home and no doubt lots cuddles and fun days. I hope you can take a little comfort that they are a much loved doggie.

I lost my big fella... it'll be 2 years in January. I still say goodmorning, goodnight and hello/goodbye, and give his urn a wee tap when coming and going. A bit daft to some, I suppose.

It hurts like nothing I've experienced before.

I’m so sorry. We had to have our 4 year old lab PTS in June and it’s completely destroyed me. It’s horrific and so unfair when they’re still just babies 💔.

What an utterly shit thing to have to happen.

There are no words and everything I say will just sound trite but know that you gave your doggo an amazing life and loved them for every moment they blessed your family - that really matters.

You were also able to show them the ultimate act of compassion and humanity by deciding to end their suffering. They were lucky to have had you.

I know this pain too well - I’ve had to send all 4 of my beloved puppers on their way in the last 14 months. It’s been horrific and the pain is indescribable really. Never “just a dog”. Big hugs to you, lovely xx

I had to do the same a week ago and I'm devastated but trying to focus on the fact he's no longer suffering.

Two weeks ago I had to have my beautiful 4yr old German Shepherd euthanised. A complete shock.
I still feel stupefied although not crying so much.
The pain is very real, I’m struggling to not get into a downward spiral. I’m hosting for 12 the next two days and hope the distraction is helpful.

I know it’s not thd sand but I lost my heart horse at only 12 completely unexpectedly and suddenly. The pain was gut wrenching.
