Do you feel Christmassy?

I dont and no one I know does either, even people who normally love Christmas and the build up just seem so flat and like they cant be arsed this year.

We're only even recognising it because of our kids. But even they are feeling bah humbug. They don't even want Christmas dinner this year! 😪

Not at all! I usually love it, all the build up, getting excited about gifts and decorations, but there’s something very un-Christmassy about this year for me. I’ve done the school shows, been to carols, the usual things, but just not feeling it. Financially I’m actually in a slightly better position this year rather than previous years, as didn’t go on a summer holiday, and have saved carefully and managed to get everything the kids wanted (within reason and budget!) so it’s not even like I’m feeling deprived or watching every single penny like previous recent years. I don’t know if maybe it’s the weather having an effect, as here in the NW it’s been very mild interspersed with monsoon-like rain, so it still feels like it’s autumn. I can’t put my finger on it. Lots of people in my circle have said similar.

Boomer55 · 22/12/2025 16:29

Nope. Roll on next year and spring. 👍

greenwithglee · 22/12/2025 16:29

The economy is flat, everyone is cutting back and has an underlying feeling of worry. Its hard to feel festive in those circumstances.

CalamityCelia · 22/12/2025 16:31

Not at all. I celebrated the Solstice in a very small way yesterday. I miss the simple Christmas times of the olden days.

Screenager · 22/12/2025 16:31

I genuinely think it’s because it hasn’t stopped raining for ages!! The weather doesn’t feel festive at all.

I need a cold snap to help feel festive

I wasn’t until this weekend. I always aim to do at least one Christmas event every weekend, often one both days. We have some set traditions we do pretty much every year. I noticed a lot of the events earlier in the month just didn’t hit as good as expected, or as they had in previous years. Really felt like places were scrimping this year, despite prices rising.

Then this weekend we went to an event 3 days running, all of which we do every year and they were all great. One is a totally free nativity procession, aside from our trip to the sweet shop. Just really simple but in a lovely village and we always enjoy it a lot. It really got me in the mood and I’m now finally excited.

shhblackbag · 22/12/2025 16:34

Nope. And from tomorrow, I'm going to have to pretend for several days.

MiddleAgedDread · 22/12/2025 16:35

I'm not a huge fan at the best of time but it really doesn't feel like Christmas to me at all.

Sarah2891 · 22/12/2025 16:36

No, not in the slightest.

Baby2duejuly2026 · 22/12/2025 16:37

I’m currently 10 weeks pregnant with horrendous sickness and I just… don’t feel Christmassy this year. I have a 3 year old so of course will celebrate for him. Just want to curl up and hide for another month

Purplewarrior · 22/12/2025 16:37

Yes, very! All my friends are too!

The weather is awful where I am, it just reminds me of the opening scene of the Men behaving Badly Christmas special- the reality v the ideal!

Crunchymum · 22/12/2025 16:40

Nope and I feel so sad about it as I love this time of year usually.

I am recovering from a horrible illness (not quite flu but much worse than the usual cough / cold) and I am peri but I just feel so flat and sad and cannot wait for it to all be over which is so unlike me.

KimberleyClark · 22/12/2025 16:42

Yes I do.

Laiste · 22/12/2025 16:43

I feel like i'm in the middle of doing a practice run of Xmas in Sept or something. Everything is as it always is. Loads of presents under the tree. Loads of food ready. Lights up outside and in ect.

Is it the weather maybe? Very damp and dreary - not much crispy frost.

I mean this time next week we'll be 4 days past it !!

Maybe i need to eat a few more sweaty mini sausage rolls to get in the mood? 🤣

smallglassbottle · 22/12/2025 16:43

I prefer older Christmasses which weren't as commercialised and less cynical. I used to like the advent calendars with the little picture windows with angels and sheep behind them. I'm a Christian, so am aware that it's no longer about Christ being born as the Light of The World, but hope people might remember anyway and spot a glimpse of hope behind the over consumption, boozing, mountains of gifts and domestic violence.

Motherofalittledragon · 22/12/2025 16:43

No not one bit.

However, this prompted me to look at the weather forecast and thank goodness the sun is out in Christmas eve and Christmas day and it's going to be 1 degree

purpleme12 · 22/12/2025 16:45

There has been barely any Christmas songs playing in the shops this year.
I love to go shopping looking around the shops getting ideas for Christmas and listening to the Christmas songs playing but in most shops there's nothing this year. It's really disappointing

Laiste · 22/12/2025 16:46

For me part of it is the sheer speed the years fly by for me now!

I feel like it's only 2/3 months since i put the bloomin' decorations away!

LoisGriffinskitchen · 22/12/2025 16:50

Not feeling it at all, my cat has been ill and today a scan found an inoperable tumour so I’ve had to make the crap decision for euthanasia.

Im going through the motions but it’s not a good time for me. DH and DS going to Wales, I’d love to go but cat 2 is blind and someone needs to be with her.

i won’t necessarily celebrate Xmas. I’ve bought gifts and have a turkey crown but not feeling it at all.

tobee · 22/12/2025 16:51

.

Do you feel Christmassy?
Elmspringwater · 22/12/2025 16:53

No not one bit dont do christmas at all.

But when i was child i felt more christmassy after the big day, that soon stopped when i was about 11, i never really liked all the faff tbh.

smallglassbottle · 22/12/2025 16:53

As we're transitioned into a new economic model, Christmas will be phased out. I've noticed the shops aren't as decorated as much as they usually are. Same last year.

Mikart · 22/12/2025 16:56

We do our own non traditional Xmas and it works for us. No stress, no spending it with people you would never normally be in the same room with, lovely food ...we are going to a cottage by the sea. Lots of books and wine
