Do you feel Christmassy?

I dont and no one I know does either, even people who normally love Christmas and the build up just seem so flat and like they cant be arsed this year.

We're only even recognising it because of our kids. But even they are feeling bah humbug. They don't even want Christmas dinner this year! 😪

I feel like i'm in the middle of doing a practice run of Xmas in Sept or something

This sums it up perfectly @Laiste

jeremyclarksonsthirdnipple · 22/12/2025 16:57

Not one bit..I am lucky enough to be surrounded by food and presents for everyone so I am all done yet I feel empty. ..Nothing means anything this year its just been something that needed to be done.

Abitofapain · 22/12/2025 16:58

Please describe what you mean by feeling Christmassy.

RBarone · 22/12/2025 16:58

Mikart · 22/12/2025 16:56

We do our own non traditional Xmas and it works for us. No stress, no spending it with people you would never normally be in the same room with, lovely food ...we are going to a cottage by the sea. Lots of books and wine

We do Christmas our own way as well and really enjoy it, so I am feeling Christmassy, but I'm sorry some people are dreading it or going through something awful which always feels worse at Christmas.

Petrine · 22/12/2025 16:59

No I don’t feel Christmassy at all this year. Even the shops seem drab.

I went to a large M&S which normally has a very festive feel but this year they have a few trees dotted about but no lights or baubles on them. They just look sad. Obviously no attempt made.

LoisGriffinskitchen · 22/12/2025 16:50

Not feeling it at all, my cat has been ill and today a scan found an inoperable tumour so I’ve had to make the crap decision for euthanasia.

Im going through the motions but it’s not a good time for me. DH and DS going to Wales, I’d love to go but cat 2 is blind and someone needs to be with her.

i won’t necessarily celebrate Xmas. I’ve bought gifts and have a turkey crown but not feeling it at all.

Oh, I'm so sorry, we had same thing with ours and said goodbye in September. Hugs to you.

Gabbycat245 · 22/12/2025 17:03

Well my DD is poorly (and so am I, for the second time in two weeks - not as bas as her though) so we're trying, but not quite hitting the mark. Lots of tv and snuggles with fingers crossed she feels better for the big day. She's been so looking forward to it. I'm totally fed up of this winter.

smallglassbottle · 22/12/2025 16:53

As we're transitioned into a new economic model, Christmas will be phased out. I've noticed the shops aren't as decorated as much as they usually are. Same last year.

Bollocks ;-)

But in seriousness, we have been celebrating a winter festival for thousands of years. I doubt it will disappear any time very soon!

I acknowledge it may change (less commercial would be very nice) but it won't go completely.

SAH07 · 22/12/2025 17:12

Not at all. The decorations are up, the presents wrapped and food bought. I'm grateful i have loved ones around me to celebrate with but it just doesn't feel the same anymore. I daren't tell anyone. Now that my children have grown up, it just doesn't feel the same without carol concerts, nativities, trips to see santa. Similarly since I lost a parent it's not been the same since. I'm looking forward to going to church, one tradition that doesn't change and is the most christmassy thing to do

ilovesooty · 22/12/2025 17:12

No, but I don't like Christmas anyway.

What would the new economic model be? Why would it phase out Christmas?

SlashBeef · 22/12/2025 17:15

No I don't and I'd really like to! It's not that I hate Christmas or anything, I didn't put my decs up too early and burnt through my enthusiasm. It's all just feeling very flat.

ChristmasCookie1 · 22/12/2025 17:15

Not really, no. I've lost two people in the last week and have another relative in a care home. I'm still looking forward to Christmas, but don't feel festive really. Hopefully will do more after tomorrow as no more work.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 22/12/2025 17:20

I do. I broke up from work on Friday, and we've been doing all sorts of lovely Christmassy things since then. I've already lost track of the days, which is obviously a sign I'm fully in Christmas mode.

Used to love Christmas, the present buying, getting the tree, decorating the tree, going ice skating at Somerset House, seeing friends.

Last few years it's just been a bit flat. Even at work it's been a bit flat, usually the boss takes his direct reports into London for a meeting followed by lunch but we've not had that the past couple of years. I used to stop to listen to the Sally Army play at Waterloo Station, missing my train.

I got excited about booking my tip slot for Saturday so I can get rid of the tree (I don't have space and have to move furniture around, before anyone says anything)the other day. And am already planning when I can go back to the gym!

No I don't either
It's been a tough couple of years, we'll have a nice few days, but quieter than we've ever had and I think that's partly why I just feel flat.

Empty is a good word.

Like I'm just waiting to get it ticked off the to do list.

Happy face, going through the motions but just... hollow.

I haven't felt Christmassy for years! I mean, I suspect that the combination of not having small children in the family for a long time, family members doing Christmas a bit differently, and the wet weather doesn't help (although it is preferable to snow and ice when you work outside), but... I got tired of the commercialisation of Christmas. It can be very expensive and in-your-face at times and I'm allergic to real Christmas trees. I pity the people who work in shops and have to listen to Christmas music all day!

I don't think that Christmas will ever be fully phased out, partly due to the religious element of it, and also, it does bring joy to some people and their families. Even the Pagans, who effectively banned it from 1647-1660, were undermined by Christmassy people!

Gallowayan · 22/12/2025 17:38

It's been a difficult year and December has been particularly hard. I am trying to get into it though, which I think is important.

Off to a candlelight carol service at the church in the next village. Hopefully that will put us in the mood

I hope you all start to feel better and get that xmas feeling.

Diamondsbutnoknickers · 22/12/2025 17:41

You're right that even shops dont feel particularly festive.

One local shopping centre changed up it's lights this year and the new ones are boring. I dont remember the second shopping centre having anything. And the third one has the grotto in a boarded up shop with some A4 printed "santa stop here" signs taped to the window and some tinsel dangling between the ceiling tiles every so often. It just looks really sad. If it isnt a metaphor for how I'm feeling, I dont know what is!

OP posts:
PowerPuffGirdle · 22/12/2025 17:42

No and I feel very sad about that.

I've bought tonnes of presents.
The fridge, freezer and cupboards are full.
I'm spending all day tomorrow wrapping and cooking which I love.

I'm not hard-up. I don't have massive responsibilities. I don't have to do lots of visiting.

I'm just not feeling it.

Thegrassroots26 · 22/12/2025 17:43

No I don’t either. I don’t think it helps that I’m spending most of it alone with my cat as we co parent teens and it’s not my year. I just feel like I’m sort of over it, but maybe it’s because I don’t have a partner to get excited with or do stuff together with. Christmas is a time for love etc, being single it ain’t the ticket.

tripleginandtonic · 22/12/2025 17:44

Yabu. Christmas is what you make it.
