I hate today’s fashion!!!!

Stupid black shapeless sportswear items, jogging bottoms, everything plain and dull and beige. Awful centre parting that make me look like Hey Arnold.

I’m desperate for the early 2000s fashion to make a proper comeback - little sequin boleros, floaty camis, skinny jeans, ballerina pumps, long hair with a side parting, everything in pretty colours with a bit of sparkle and nice jewellery.

Yes yes my next big birthday will be 40 and heading for that ‘everything now is shite’ phase but I mean it this time!!

💯 in agreement 🤣

Sillysoggyspaniel · 15/12/2025 19:54

Just wear what you want?

I wear sports wear and ballerina pumps (not necessarily together). I think I look great regardless. Other people can do one if they don't agree.

LVhandbagsatdawn · 15/12/2025 19:55

You don't have to wear the black sportswear you know.

Wear the boleros and ballerina pumps and do your hair however you like.

Its completely within your control.

Farticus101 · 15/12/2025 19:56

Forget the Hey Arnold hair, I'm more concerned about the Helga eyebrows I see everywhere.

Keroppi · 15/12/2025 19:56

H&m has most of what you're after. Ballerina pumps have been back for ages! Where have you been 😆
I just bought a few lovely peplum jumpers and tops from h&m actually. They look really nice with flares and ballet pumps.

I'm not one for sportswear or loungewear suits unless it's for chilling at home/gym

cestlavielife · 15/12/2025 19:56

Wear what you want.
You are not forced to follow a trend

Lmnop22 · 15/12/2025 19:57

Oh I so agree, I went out on a rare evening out and every single young person is wearing jeans and trainers and a plain black/white/beige t shirt. There’s no expression through fashion at the moment and it’s sad to see

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 15/12/2025 19:59

I like black and beige, and the outfit you described sounds like tacky polyester hell to me, but I did wear my 15+yo ballet flats out the other night and felt current!

haveaword · 15/12/2025 20:00

You missed off folk walking round like they dressed from ‘Rainbow’s’ jumble sales bag

I’m sure Fred is missing a few chunk gordy jumpers that look like a goat knitted them

High wasted - not for me they slip down and I look like I’m trying to hide ball bags and saggy arse central

crocs - had enough of them too - grow up it’s what my kids wore around pool

Prelim · 15/12/2025 20:01

Where are you finding these things?! I’ve not seen anyone in shapeless black sports clothes or head to toe in beige? I live in London, so there may be more of a mix, but every shop I walk past today had loads of colour. Why do you have a centre parting if it doesn’t suit you? I’m all for fashion, but I don’t wear things I don’t like and that don’t suit me. Maybe you need to vary the places you shop in?

Growlybear83 · 15/12/2025 20:03

As others have said, why not just wear what you like? I don’t understand why people think they have to follow fashion trends - you are allowed to wear anything you want to, in any colour, size or shape!

Because the self conscious youth in me still wants to be considered fashionable.

Sad, I know.

Where what you want. I wear sequins and sparkle and a side parting and a not a shapeless jogger in sight. You have a choice there are loads of lovely clothes out there!

Sunshineo · 15/12/2025 20:06

Why would you wear stuff that you don’t like? Seems crazy. Why not be happy?

Chinsupmeloves · 15/12/2025 20:08

I agree, the spot the individual amongst the uniform gym pants (too often please not another all crevices and creases show), cropped tops and centre parted long straight hair, also the false eyelashes and nails.

Having been through many eras of fashion this is definitely the worst! I'm not fuddy duddy, far from it, have loved and embraced so many different styles.

It really is boring, samey, inspired to Kardashian grotesque and dare I say basically fake and looks slovenly to wear glorified tracksuits while clearly nothing more than selfie pouting with no desire to smudge make up?

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 15/12/2025 20:09

Wear what makes you happy

At 40 we shouldn't be having to tell you that though

There is plenty of colour out there, lots of "alternative" type places online with quirky fashions etc

TidyCyan · 15/12/2025 20:09

You might have been better off posting in Style and Beauty!

I was out on Saturday and saw numerous girls in black leggings so thin you could see their pants, which I don't understand, but I'm actually quite enjoying some of the more interesting shapes in fashion at the moment. I've been wearing thin jumpers tucked into barrel leg jeans and feeling like a pirate.

MummyWillow1 · 15/12/2025 20:11

Nobody is stopping you from wearing what you want.

Charity shops are usually worth a look if you need something new to wear.

inattentive38 · 15/12/2025 20:12

My husband and I were just saying the other day that in general colour has left the world (exaggeration but you get the idea). I think stranger things spurred the conversation on - so much brightness in the 80s (or faux TV 80s).

CuddlyBlankets · 15/12/2025 20:15

I’m quite liking the current fashions.

i like wearing socks, comfortable footwear, layers, knitwear, colourful stuff, big coats and being able to buy multiple nice things that I can actually afford on vinted.

That is a little sad ☹️ Do you struggle with self esteem? I’m sure you would look great in whatever you wear. Start being more authentically you, you’ll feel better.

DrCoconut · 15/12/2025 20:22

I'm not keen on all the baggy jeans and too short tops for me. They add weight and emphasise that I'm almost 50 and have had pregnancies. If I was 18 again they might look ok. It's hard to find affordable t shirts that are long enough at the moment.

Not really, I just don’t want to appear dated.

why can’t the high street brands make t shirts and jumpers a bit longer! Winds me up no end
I’m 60 now and find clothes shopping a chore

Yes they’re all bloody cropped or made for somebody no taller than 5’4. I’m 5’8 so within a couple of washes everything looks ridiculous yet the tall ranges swamp me.
