Hello

My workplace has a vending machine. I bought a £2 drink this morning from it but the metal thingy turned around but didnt release the item so it got stuck.

I went to get more change to buy the one behind it/above it to try to release it, but the original one that was stuck was gone...

Im pissed off about this.

What do you make of this?

Do you think im being unreasonable?

I was not gone for long when I went to get chamge.

I was actually thinking that someone had walked past the machine and saw the can halfway released from the holder thingy (there is a see through panel bit) and theyve shook/hit the machine to get the can to fall and then taken it (and not bought anything from the machine, maybe had no intention to).

As for leaving it on the side, they couldve went into the staff room and asked if anyone tried to buy a can of something and the machine didnt release the can.

Why didn't you just hit/shake the machine?

MBM18 · 25/11/2025 22:21

Speak to the person who manages it at your work? I used to manage it in a previous role. Any big issues I’d report to the vending machine company but for small issues like yours or swallowed change, we’d give back to employees out of the petty cash tin

I am in a bad mood and I've no idea why. Some of these replies have cheered me right up!

Life's a bitch and then you die 🙁

nomas · 25/11/2025 22:29

Call the number on the vending machine.

Why are people so helpless these days.

PatThePenguin · 25/11/2025 18:33

Soda problem is someone else took it?

Better call the fizz fuzz.

That’s soda pressing.

You should have just rocked the machine back and forward a little to make the drink fall out.

Or whacked it from the bottom. Negative pressure. Hit at the point where you want the item to land.
(Like when, as a smoker, you'd hit the top of the pack rather than the bottom to get a fag out)
I only learned what this was from Margot, in For All Mankind 🚀

A... a wooden... display bar?

No, sorry, not having that

What do you mean?

It was made of wood, inside a normal Lion Bar wrapper.

Brava! Makes the whole thread worthwhile.

Fatiguedwithlife · 26/11/2025 09:37

It’s fair game to anyone who sees it after you e left the machine IMO

HappyNewTaxYear · 26/11/2025 09:40

How old are you OP?

KimberleyClark · 26/11/2025 09:40

You’re getting a hard time on here OP. Petty dishonesty like this is annoying and leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. Reminds me of leaving my mug in the loo at work I’d rinsed it out (there was no kitchen)went back for it immediately and it was gone. Some people just can’t resist the temptation.

The fucking bastard.

Raging on your behalf.

Don’t move anything and cordon off the area.. it’s a crime scene. Thoughts and prayers go out to you at this difficult time op.

Thanks, I agree.

People here are making little of this.

I dont care about the can or the £2, but the principle of it... I was only away for for a short time to get more change, came back and it was gone,

If someone would take this, what else would they take (or maybe I should be using the word "steal"?)...(and possibly they have been doing it in the past too) . What other kinds of dishonesty in the could they be up to...?

I havent said what kind of work it is.

This is what concerns me.

Its a reasonably small workplace in my opinion.

In addition to the post I made above this on this page, and my opening post, I think people here are missing the point.

booksnbaking · 26/11/2025 14:21

Sorry OP, too busy trying to be smart and only just noticed your latest post.

You're right to be aggrieved, especially in a small workplace. Maybe ask around loudly so that at least the culprit knows their activity's been clocked.

I was once rushing out to an event I'd organised and had bought a bunch of flowers for someone there who had done me a huge favour (event-related). Of course I left the flowers in the hall of my (small) block of flats and when I remembered and went back, less than 15 minutes later, you've guessed it - they were gone. People are opportunistic shits.

surreygirly · 26/11/2025 14:27

I would contact the serious crime squad

lolly427 · 26/11/2025 14:39

OP they didn't know you didn't get your drink. For all they knew they just got lucky and the machine chucked out an extra free drink. That would be my assumption.

It's annoying but it's not stealing and I really don't think you need to be 'concerned'.

Marylou2 · 26/11/2025 15:35

Sorry OP. I thought this was one of those funny lighthearted threads. Got this wrong.

fatphalange · 26/11/2025 16:40

Should’ve given it some fist 👊
