Not the boy having some form of placement or help of course, but 300k for a little over 4 months! I’m sure this will be ‘controversial’ but I think we need to seriously rethink how much can be spent on just 1 person, unless (for example) they need round the clock nursing care to stay alive and specialist medical equipment of course.

I find it chilling that your assessment of a child's worth is entirely based on their future earning potential.
I was born with severe physical disabilities, without eyes and with multiple joint deformities, and my parents had to fight tooth and nail for me to have access to suitable specialist education which could meet my needs. I excelled academically at school, got top grades at A-levels, a first class degree in a job I enjoy. None of that would have been possible if not for special educational provisions which doubtless cost considerably more than a similar level of education for my non-disabled peers.
I am sure miserable and small-minded people like you would have complained about 'tax-payer' money being spent on a hopeless case like me, who would surely never be a worthwhile member of society. It's almost as though writing off a child due to their disability is a pretty cruel and stupid thing to do, isn't it?
I do not think that a child's right to education, care and a reasonable standard of life in childhood should be dependent on their future earning potential. That is a terribly cold and transactional view of humanity.

Maybe the parents should get the amount allocated to each child being home educated from the la to pay towards the costs then.

All the people who whinge about homeschooler and private education forget they are saving the state money

Good idea to provide resources for homeschoolers, I agree. They don’t need the full allocation though, since they are not paying for all the same costs as the per pupil
budget.
