Hands down the Waitrose one for me! Its like an ad and a mini series in one

Probably explains why the John Lewis one is so shit this year!

I know it's not a brand new advert for this year, but I absolutely love the Amazon one, with the old ladies sledging; but I really hope they start showing the full-length one again once the Christmas season arrives - the one where you see their beautiful smiles as they remember themselves as young girls again, and the song doesn't change abruptly.

Personally, I think that showing Christmas adverts too early just spoils it and detracts from the specialness of the occasion, as by the time Christmas is actually on the horizon, it feels like it's already been around forever. I know it's just all about sales for the big businesses, mind; however, I would happily watch the Amazon ad all winter, as it isn't particularly Christmas-limited in the first place.

Worst one for me is the Asda advert, with the overexcited Grinch who looks like Gary Barlow. Not only is the ad itself deeply irritating, but they're trying to make out that they are a really cheap shop, when that just isn't true.

They could at least start with bringing back the Asda Reward Card savings that mysteriously vanished abruptly some while back; and also by not rolling the prices forward first, in preparation for 'rolling them back' to the previous (not especially cheap) price.

Agree that is Waitrose. I love it! But I do also like the Aldi cauliflower dog

Onefortheroad25 · 13/11/2025 12:30

In Ireland so we have different ads. I looked up the Waitrose one yesterday and I love it. I hate the Aldi Kevin the carrot on his stag do. That’s just complete shite. There hasn’t been many on yet. My favourites are the Guinness ad and the Spar ad with the Christmas trees.

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 13/11/2025 12:44

None of them at the moment. Meh about this one but DH likes the first 10 seconds because the singing along then suddenly effing at the traffic is the sort of thing I do in the car 😂

Love Tesco - HATE Asda

chubbybubbyandmrwrinkles · 13/11/2025 14:12

Definitely the four minute version of the Waitrose ad! Just like a mini rom-com and I love it 😁 All the other ones feel like ones I've seen before!

SweetDreamsAreMadeOfFizz · 13/11/2025 14:16

Oh I really really don't like the Waitrose one. I have only seen that and the JL one - which was equally awful - just in a completely opposite way! 🤣

PunishmentSnart · 13/11/2025 14:57

Just cried my heart out at the Waitrose one. The Amazon sledging one makes me cry every time I see it. I'm a crier though and LOVE a Christmas ad!

Puppylucky · 13/11/2025 15:02

Love the Tesco ones - there are 11 in total apparently and all the ones I've seen do far have been really funny.

deeahgwitch · 13/11/2025 15:07

I liked the Waitrose one. I’m not in the UK so watched on YouTube.
I love the Guinness one in Ireland, the music is gorgeous with the snow falling softly - “Even at the home of the black stuff they dream of a white one.
If you haven’t seen it in the UK it’s on YouTube - it’s Guinness Christmas ad 16th December 2011 - it’s worth a watch.

No idea why people like the John Lewis one.. and what’s all the crying about with these influencers over it. It’s not Christmassy it’s just shit. I’m similar age to the dad so I DO get the reminiscing but really that’s about it.

I was going to say the Waitrose one. The JL one is pants.

Growlybear83 · 13/11/2025 15:28

I love the Amazon one but haven’t been impressed by any of the others. A couple of them are really really irritating me already.

Jennifer Lopez Reaction GIF

Hard hard agree with you re asda - they arent a bargain place to shop and their just essentials range wasnt available online during the pandemic. Disgusting shop and shite advert 😄😄

I like the JL one, and not the Waitrose one. My favourite is the Guinness Christmas ad that they show in Ireland every year.

I LOVE the Waitrose one! The best hands down.....

alibongo5 · 13/11/2025 15:50

I've just watched the Waitrose one on YouTube but I'm sure in the one I saw on TV last night, when Joe appeared at her door, she said "oh thank god you haven't got cue cards" but the YouTube one doesn't? Are there two versions?

Ah she says it in the short version - shame it's not in the longer one - it was the best bit I thought.

alibongo5 · 13/11/2025 16:14

I've always hated the Grinch so ditto the Asda ad. I've seen the JL one, without paying attention really and without realising it's JL. But having watched it again now with proper attention, I like it. Sentimental without being soppy.
