My girl is having her kittens! First one is here squeaking and healthy!

Second is imminent.

I think she’ll have 4 🤞🏽🤞🏽

I can’t believe I’m the first person to say it, but why is your cat having kittens? Why isn’t she spayed?

You know nothing about how the OP is planning to manage this? I do think its important to spay cats but many people will allow a family cat to have a litter before having them spayed.

Why be so quick to jump in with judgement when you don’t know the circumstances?

Superhansrantowindsor · 13/11/2025 08:18

Are there health benefits to letting a cat have a litter before spaying.

TimeForATerf · 13/11/2025 08:18

And tomorrow I will be back to volunteering at my local rescue, we currently have 3 litters of kittens, a couple born with defects or birth issues, that the wonderful permanent staff will try their best to treat and cure at great expense.

Then we have to vaccinate, neuter, chip before finding good and loving homes for all 13 of them, the poorly ones may have to be on a special diet for life, and that is as well as the 20+ adults we have.

This could have been prevented.

RoomToDream · 13/11/2025 08:19

I think the point about spaying and neutering has been made now and the thread shouldn't be derailed while OP is asleep. OP was clear in an early post that this would be her cat's only litter. The PSB has been made to other people now too.

OP, I hope your son has a lovely morning and mum and kits are doing well. I was really touched by your cat coming to you before it happened and wanting you there. I was brought up with dogs so it was a sweet insight into how cats are affectionate with their owners.

Maybe for anyone who’s reading this thread & thinking they’d like a litter of kittens too?

The OP’s cat is obviously loved & everything seems to have gone well, but I do comms for my small local rescue, which includes spending a lot of time doing posts about why the best thing you can do for your cat is to spay her as a kitten - both for her health and because of the numbers of abandoned & stray kittens out there desperate for homes.

Absolutely this. We don’t need to celebrate any more litters when the rescues are absolutely full of them.

But op said early on it was her ‘one and only litter’ and she had ‘Homes ready for at least 6 kitty’s’
These things happen and the op sounds lovely and very responsible.
Thanks @Kittenwatch for such a lovely thread ❤️
as a child we had 2 black cats 🐈‍⬛, and dad had another , once we left home.

It's funny how if someone posts that they've bought a pedigree kitten they're immediately lambasted about the fact that shelters are overflowing with cats (and puppies). It's not people who are buying a cat who are the problem there, it's people allowing their cats to breed. And it's not "an accident", if you don't get your cat neutered it's not an accident but something you've allowed to happen.

Saying that, OP's kittens are lovely and it's great that she's found homes for them already.

TigTails · 13/11/2025 08:27

What a shame. ☹️

Ihatemondays1962 · 13/11/2025 08:27

I am pretty shocked at anyone letting a cat having kittens. I am constantly seeing posts about rescues overflowing and the rescue system is at breaking point. Although you have found homes for them you have no control over those kittens once they are rehomed so they could go on an produce even more kittens. Saying it is a one and only litter makes it no better. I don't care if my post is seen as being miserable. Get your cat spayed!

BlueEyedBogWitch · 13/11/2025 08:28

I understand the problems. I have only ever had female dogs and cats, and spayed them all asap. No litters.

But, I repeat, the kittens are here now. They have homes. They’re cute. What does plopping onto the thread with disapproving comments actually achieve?

mamagogo1 · 13/11/2025 08:28

To those saying that you shouldn’t breed or or buy kittens, perhaps if rescues were less draconian in who they allowed to adopt and feed were lower they would get homes for them. Rescues are so funny about children and pets, people who want pets have no choice but look privately and not everyone wants older animals

Planty of the smaller rescues are realistic. My friend just got a cat from a rescue and has a child and a dog already.

@EmpressaurusKitty @Pepperedpickles

i am perfectly happy with my decision to let my much loved cat have 1 litter. You have no idea for my reasons for letting her have them and they’re none of your business. I discussed it with my vet and my cat, the father and the kittens are well and healthy. If you think this comment is appropriate on a post where someone has already actually got the kittens then you need to give your head a wobble. I’m not asking you to look after them so jog on.

I’ve been up with her through the whole thing, monitoring and looking after her.

They are loved here and will be loved in their new homes which have already been allocated to close friends and family.

I’ve done nothing wrong.

I’ve clearly said she’s being spayed after this litter which is her first and only.

Of all the things to be bloody shocked about 🙄

I wouldn’t have let her have kittens if I didn’t have close friends who wanted them. I purposely let her have them and I’m happy I did.

They have brought me and my children joy at a very difficult time in our lives.

I'd love another cat, last one went two years ago but the vets are horrendously expensive if you can find one to take you on and food can be expensive if you want to feed them good quality.

I watch a lot of cat videos these days, that's my cat fix and also any pics appearing on here, the kittens are lovely and so sweet, I do envy the OP a little bit. 🙂

Regarding allowing cats to breed, I got one of my kittens back in the early 90s from a student who had two female cats in his one bed tiny house and both cats were pregnant at the same time. He hadn't bothered to get them spayed, said he couldn't afford it. I wish I could have taken all the kittens, all 8 of them but came away with just the one. All my cats were neutered, male and female as soon as possible but a little bit of me does wish I could have had at least one litter of kittens from one of the females.

randomgeneratedusername1 · 13/11/2025 08:35

My gorgeous cat also had 5 kittens like yours op and both parents were fully black 4 of the kittens were fully black green eyes and one completely tabby cat with yellow eyes . My cat had her littter after lockdown we couldn’t get her spayed during lockdown it was a nightmare . We kept them all and they are now 3 yrs old and a proper family tribe alongside their 4 yr old mum and dad . Thank you for sharing it has bought back some wonderful memories for me.

I would reconsider the whole keeping one kitten thing - I had to rehome one of my cats because mum cat's instinct is to drive kittens away to their own new territories when they grow up. I hope this doesn't happen to you because it was heartbreaking for us and I still miss my rehomed cat terribly 💔 but it had to be done because they were both so stressed (to the point of illness) with each other's presence. Something to consider...

Thank you for this. I will be on the lookout for any issues. I did have a cat have a kitten when I was a child and we kept it and it was fine so fingers crossed.

I mean, they’re here now. Why be a misery about it?

You’re right they are. I don’t think anyone is being a misery about it and it’s a perfectly reasonable question to ask. Perhaps you need to spend time in an animal shelter to see the impact that not having your cat neutered has.
Of course this cat could have been adopted whilst already pregnant (though a good shelter won’t rehome a pregnant cat). Unless you’re a registered breeder it’s irresponsible to not get your cat or any animal neutered.
