Hate showering & washing my hair-Do you shower every day?

Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

Why do you wash your hair every day?

You only need to do it once a week.

I love showering every morning.

Eh? My hair would look and smell awful if I only washed it once a week. Where did this ‘once a week’ rule come from?

visionpools · 12/11/2025 18:09

I shower every day unless I’m sick/too tired but I wash my hair every other day. To be fair if I’m feeling really lazy and have nowhere to be I could go a few days without washing my hair.

Hankunamatata · 12/11/2025 18:09

Shower daily. Wash hair once a week.

justasking111 · 12/11/2025 18:11

I recently had an operation wasn't allowed a shower for two weeks. That was awful.

Ezzee · 12/11/2025 18:18

I do shower every day but only wash my hair once every 2 weeks, it doesn't smell or look dirty before there are comments.
I also have a back injury plus ADHD showering I hate ( I can't have 1 of my legs in the shower because of the horrendous pain from the water on it).

Ontheedgeofit · 12/11/2025 18:19

I shower twice a day minimum. Once in the am and then again in the evening. If we go out in the evenings I may shower before and then again when we are back home before bed, so that may be 3 showers in a day. If I have to remove make up then I would rather just jump in the shower to wash my face than faff about over a basin. I wash my hair every second day mostly in the mornings.

I actually love showering and can’t really understand how someone can’t prefer that clean feeling after a shower over not being showered.

I do have a beautiful shower though and I look forward to it.

Thats grim. Grab a quick shower every day. Pits and bits. Just wash hair 2 to 3 times per week.

No wonder so many people stink of BO these days.

WanderlustMom · 12/11/2025 18:23

I do shower daily 99% of the time - but I do find it a chore. I only wash my hair once a week though.

I love showering every morning.

If I washed my hair once a week I'd look like I had been for a swim in a chip pan. And no, it won't eventually train itself.

Hohumdedum · 12/11/2025 18:25

I wash my hair once a week.

I shower most days, but as long as I can wash my armpits bottom and face with flannels I'm happy not to unless I've exercised a lot. It's better for the environment after all and it's a recent thing for people to assume daily showers are necessary.

Alpacajigsaw · 12/11/2025 18:26

Only showering once a week is disgusting.

I shower every day, may occasionally skip a day if not going out but that’s all. Hair is only 2x a week though, sometimes 3x

RuncibleSpoons · 12/11/2025 18:26

You must smell a bit fusty OP.

I’m conditioned to jump in the shower as soon as I get out of bed. Mostly for cleanliness, but partly to wake myself up. Our shower is big, so I do squats and lunges while I’m in there 😂

My friend showers before bed and not in the morning. She never has BO, but she doesn’t smell fresh, either.

As for those doing a flannel wash? It’s not wartime.

evilharpy · 12/11/2025 18:29

The very odd time I've had a flannel wash, due to bathroom renovations or broken shower, it has felt like far more effort than jumping in the shower for two minutes.

Yes this, it’s grim

Lovemycat2023 · 12/11/2025 18:31

Like a shower (or a bath) and have one every other day (unless exercising or swimming) but absolutely hate having wet hair. It’s the horrible feeling of it on face and neck, so I understand the sensory issue there. I always swim with a swim cap on because of this too.

The only time I love having wet hair is if it’s very hot and sweaty, and then it’s clean and cools me down.

Alpacajigsaw · 12/11/2025 18:32

I just do not see how standing at a sink and giving your fanny, armpits and arse a swipe round with a damp flannel is less hassle than getting in a shower

Toutafait · 12/11/2025 18:33

Why does everyone have to be the same as everyone else? If someone's happier doing a flannel wash, is clean in the important places and is doing less harm to the environment and reducing their bills, what's so awful about that? It's our modern lifestyles that have caused global warming.

Criteria16 · 12/11/2025 18:34

I shower every day and wash my hair in the shower every day too.
No, I don't judge on what others do, we are all different.

I shower first thing in the morning, before anything else and it's so engrained into my routine I don't even think about it. I know that if I left it to another time of the day I would have to find the time/energy/will to do it, but as I do it in autopilot that's really no big deal.
I have oily skin and hair and I don't feel ok without a daily shower.
I like to 'look after myself' first thing in the morning so that I am ready for the day. Whatever happens I am clean and tidy.
Lately I developed a strong sense of smell and I swear I can smell my body's dead cells, so showering/washing my hair is not even an option for my sanity!

Putthekettleon73 · 12/11/2025 18:34

I can't NOT shower. I'm sure I wouldn't smell.tbat bad if I missed a day but my sensory thing is I can't get dressed on an unshowered body. I feel gross!

JustMe2026 · 12/11/2025 18:36

Being autistic I find it extremely overwhelming to bath and wash hair same day so like somebody said I bath every day other than the two days I do my hair on it's own

Cucy · 12/11/2025 18:37

bigboykitty · 12/11/2025 18:06

I stink if I don't have a shower every day, same as everyone else, whether they admit it, or not!

You would but not everyone is like you.

Everyone is different, we all have different skin types, oil types, sweat glands, hormone imbalances etc.

Some people have a condition where their sweat smells like fish, I don’t - that’s not me lying or saying anyone else is lying I just know not everyone is exactly the same.

I have friends who have to wash their hair everyday and swear by it. If they don’t it will be greasy and smell.
I hate the thought of washing my hair more than 3 times a week.

OneReasonWhy · 12/11/2025 18:42

I am autistic (diagnosed) and love my shower. Water is a sensory soother for me (noise and bright lights are not) but my water bill is now massive so I am trying really hard to reduce the time spent in the shower. Been known to be in there for over an hour sometimes so it’s a big change trying to limit it.

Ontheedgeofit · 12/11/2025 18:44

I have a hair routine. I wear my hair down on the day I’ve washed and blow dried and the next day it is clipped up or in a pony tail. Then repeat. Only clean hair gets left down.

ThatChristmasMug · 12/11/2025 18:45

5hell · 12/11/2025 17:33

I like to skip the odd day (I think its probably good for our skin to leave it alone occasionally), and sometimes I cant be bothered getting naked, getting wet, getting dry, getting dressed etc

...but as other have said, often on MN it feels like if you dont shower twice day, and wash your towels at every use you are gross 😜I'm not sure what they would have made of all the "filthy" people in the 50s/60s/70s :)

My grand-mother was very much alive back then (and so was my mum).

They did shower every day too? It's not the Dark Ages, people lived pretty much the way we do now 😂
