Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

Yes I do shower every day and wash my hair every other day. It's part of my routine so doesn't feel like a chore any more than brushing my teeth does. I work out most days so showering is not an option!

I do know people who don't shower every day and they don't smell, surely someone would tell you if you did.

Friendlyfart · 12/11/2025 16:43

I shower every day but wash hair once a week

YYYDlilah · 12/11/2025 16:44

I shower when I wake up, before and after sex, before and after exercise, whenever I come back in the house, and if anyone farts in my presence.
Doesn't everyone?

Bath twice a day, wash hair every other day. Can’t imagine not cleaning myself every day

Twice a day seems excessive. Surely that must dry your skin out?

I think being clean is very important but I'm not sure if it's good for the skin to wash too often as it strips natural oils etc.

It takes 2 minutes to shower. 5 with hair wash

I don’t think it is necessarily the time it takes which is the issue stopping some people from washing every day.
Ive now made it out of bed to the sofa this afternoon. No chance of getting dressed or washing today.

🤣🤣 I thought you were serious until the end of your post

I have to be very ill to not shower & wash my hair every day.

MIL only bathed about once a week with the occasional flannel wipe in-between. She particular disliked the feeling of a shower on her head and face (one of her many idiosyncracies that I now think means she was most likely ASD).

However, she would stoutly maintain that she didn't need to bath more than once a week because she didn't really sweat, and so didn't smell.

Trust me, she absolutely did smell.

I don’t get anxious though, i’m just relaxed at home and quite happy, I don’t smell, would have been told if I did

Most people wouldn't comment on your personal hygiene to your face.

Eww, you don't shower in the middle of sex? 😷

Skin all good luckily

YYYDlilah · 12/11/2025 16:48

@stargirl27, we tried doing it in the shower but the flashbacks to that scene from The Archers gave me PTSD.

Pranksters · 12/11/2025 16:49

I shower every day, I hate not having had a shower. If I can’t, I at least do a pits and bits wash.

My in laws put deodorant on top of yesterday’s deodorant and they smell.

Jamietea · 12/11/2025 16:49

Everyone in our house only baths/showers every other day. Better for our skin and the environment.
I wash my hair about twice a week.

I hate this, there is plenty of people with adhd who live in a tidy clean home and wash themselves daily, run businesses, show up.
It is "can't be bothered" mode, procrastination at its finest, labelled as ND.

I think you misunerstand how ND works. The reason there is all this "spectrum" talk is that different folks find different things hard with ND. I struggle with showering. I am not lazy. I have a full time very senior job and hobbies and a family and a dog and a house... My daughter is also ASD and she showers all the bloody time. She has no issues with it but finds spending time in a noisy place exhausting. Noise isn't my favourite but bright lights are my kryptonite... etc..

People with ADHD have different limitations. My sister holds down a full time job, showers plenty but can literally NEVER find her keys, like ever. Her daughter is another one with a shower problem and she would actually leave the house naked and not notice (she is 16 so that would be an issue!)

Sensory things are a problem for ND people and showers are a sensory thing but not all ND people have the same sensory problems.

Sadly Ignorance is problem for both the ND and the NT and not all ignorant people show it in the same way... Being deliberately mean and obtuse towards a group of people sharing their vulnerabilities in the hope of helping others seems to be your particular brand of ignorance. You might want to give your head a wobble.

Laveritas · 12/11/2025 16:55

Yeah that’s gross, sorry but you did ask 😂

BountifulPantry · 12/11/2025 16:55

When i dont feel like showering, i find its the absolute first warning sign that my mental health is on a decline.

I then have a plan of what to do to help myself before it gets too too bad!

tipsyraven · 12/11/2025 16:56

Halfwaytheree · 12/11/2025 16:38

Yeah but the dog smell is just another factor on top of infrequent showers, it’s an extra smell that will linger in your clothes, hair, bedding etc. how often do you wash your dog?

Give it a rest. I know plenty of people who have dogs and their houses don’t smell and you have no idea if OP smells or not.

Lourdes12 · 12/11/2025 16:56

yep I hate it so only shower/wash hair twice a week. I have autism with many sensory issues so that is probably why

LJ125 · 12/11/2025 16:56

I hate showering too and like you, I can’t really articulate why. It’s just a faff! I’m on the same schedule as you - showering when I need to see other people, not bothering if I’m staying at home.

Deadringer · 12/11/2025 16:58

If I am not leaving the house i might skip a day, but I wouldn't skip more that one. I hate washing my hair, its very dry and such a faff conditioning it and everything so I only do that twice a week.

Baconbuttymad · 12/11/2025 16:58

I shower when I can be bothered!

VoucherVoucher · 12/11/2025 17:01

I love being in the shower, but find it hard getting ready to shower, then even harder to get out! I can't face turning the water off so it takes ages! I alternate shower days with sink wash days.
A sink wash is easier because it's not my whole body getting wet and needing drying, and not a big temperature change, also quicker.
I have to clean the shower afterwards too, or at least squeegee it.

Sausagedognamedmash · 12/11/2025 17:01

I shower every other day, strip wash on off days. Only shower at night as mornings are too busy in my house and I don't get enough sleep as it is. I don't exercise on off days and rarely leave the house on those days either other than school run. I wash my hair 2/3 times a week depending on my energy levels as my hair is super thick and takes forever to dry.
I do suffer with my mental health and find that as soon as my mental health plummets, all self care goes out the window as it's just too much to do everything everyone else needs and look after myself too.

Itiswhysofew · 12/11/2025 17:01

Shower everyday and wash hair every 2nd day. As tedious as it is, I couldn't do less than that. A week would be gross to me.

Do you wash at all in between?

PinkyFlamingo · 12/11/2025 17:01

I shower and wash my hair every single day, I generally don't feel clean if I don't!
