Hate showering & washing my hair-Do you shower every day?

Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

I shower every day, more of I have exercised. But I do like v quick showers, with a rigorous scrub of soap and then out. Has to be a good bar of soap. Hate slimy shower wash etc.

Really dislike washing my hair though, but think that's because I am not happy with my hair currently. I need to invest time and effort into getting it back into great condition, but just can't be arsed. I wash it twice a week though.

True.. maybe they showered in the morning, but have BO by lunchtime! 😁Though I must say, the smell of unwashed skin after three or four days is pretty distinct!

If people have BO it’s because they don’t use a deodorant or antiperspirant. Shower all you like, you will smell.

Just a question for those that don’t shower/bathe frequently, if somebody said to you that you smell would it make you change your personal hygiene habits?

The posters on this thread who don't shower regularly would probably just deny that they smell and say the person is making it up. It's funny that they think that they would know if they smell (noseblind) or that other people would tell them (they won't). As a manager of people, it's really awful having to talk to someone about their personal hygiene and it would have to be awful to warrant that.

Completely agree.

i did two dog walks yesterday and Pilates, housework, general running around and I couldn’t wait to wash by the evening. It wasn’t just armpit - feet, groin all felt icky and definitely didn’t smell fresh out of the bath / shower!

I also absolutely cannot go to bed with a dirty bum. I use Andrex wipes but it has to be soap and water for me, another reason I wash before bed!

They really don't.

They do smell.

When out and about, especially on escalators in London rush hour, it's surprising the amount of people on their way to work, who smell.

Supermarket on weekends too, some still in their pj's.

Just because you don't smell it doesn't mean it's not smelly.

10 year old has started showering in the morning before school off his own back and his bedding is now changed more often.

MeetMyCat · 14/11/2025 09:29

I shower every morning (and evenings as well if I've been to the gym) and wash my hair in the shower approx 5 times per week. I don't dislike showering etc but get frustrated about the time it takes to 'get ready' (ie hair and makeup ready to face the world) afterwards. Or is that a slightly different conversation?

OrlandointheWilderness · 14/11/2025 09:33

Shower every day, bath after running. Hair wash every other day.

Cheeseontoastghost · 14/11/2025 09:35

Absolutely people who dont shower/wash/ bathe daily smell
Anywhere from mildly fuggy to full on BO/ arse smell
I wear a mask on public transport not because of viruses but because it stinks!

I will never understand why people fart around with sink washes, its chilly, water everywhere, flannel 🤢 instead of a quick 2 minute shower.

Absolutely!
Numerous threads over the years of people asking how to gently tell a relative or colleague they smell/bad breath/B.O.

In the meantime, the culprits are swirling around in blissful ignorance, thinking they smell of Unicorn Gypsophila 🤣🤣.

Rewis · 14/11/2025 09:38

I do not shower everyday. It really depends what i have on that week. On average I'd say i shower 3 times a week. Sometimes more.

No self awareness from most non-bathers/showerers, so probably not.

It's the classic head in the sand thing.

OP : I don't smell.....
Most people : You probably do....
OP : No I don't!

Comefromaway · 14/11/2025 09:43

I only shower when I need to wash my hair. I didn't have a shower until I was in my late twenties and so I got into the habit of a strip wash with a flannel most days. Bits & Pits (& feet). I wash my hair every 2-3 days and shower at the same time.

It is not necessary to shower to be clean. It is necessary to wash your body thoroughly.

I do sometimes wonder if the people who aren’t showering regularly have a strip wash, like you described. If they don’t then there’s no way on earth that they don’t smell. Bacteria builds up in certain places and if it’s not cleaned it’s not going to smell good. I think as long as you wash daily, whether it be a thorough strip wash, shower, or whatever, it’s fine.

Liann811 · 14/11/2025 10:13

I'm sorry but people who couldn't be bothered to shower everyday are just being lazy. It doesn't take very long to do it's the same as brushing your teeth . Do you also neglect your teeth

pineapplecrushed · 14/11/2025 10:13

I used to shower every day when younger, now I hate it - but it isn't the actual shower - I like being in the shower, and I like the feeling in myself afterwards.....but it's the palava of getting in and drying off ( I feel this way about going swimming at an indoor pool too) - I think because of being an adult and having to clean the bathroom constantly is a factor too.

SixtyPlus · 14/11/2025 11:39

I can’t believe showering daily is necessary for hygiene. We only had a shower installed 5 years ago and I’m sure not everyone has a shower.

In the ‘good old days’ (😂) of my youth it was normal to have a shallow bath once a week and I’m pretty sure once a fortnight wasn’t unheard of.

We used to learn in history lessons that in Tudor times people used to bathe yearly but I don’t know if that was just a myth.i

Yuck. I hate sitting next to someone on a bus and smelling a person or standing in line at the supermarket next to who has not showered in two or three days. I would be uncomfortable around my children, also... and myself. A shower takes five minutes. Hair can be washed every few days, as for your privates, yuck.

Speak for your own ‘privates’ madam

divorcinganabsolutewanker · 14/11/2025 11:44

A week, that is absolutely minging.

Your bits must stink.

GAJLY · 14/11/2025 11:48

I don't have a shower, just a bath and my hair is long. It eould take too much time to wash it every day! I have a bath and wash my hair every 3 days.

Not at all. I wonder about some of you on here that have such smelly vulvas that they need to be washed twice a day! I guess we’re all different.

Every other day is generally fine in cold weather

But people don't realise that even if you don’t outwardly stink, your bum and privates will. They just will… with the various fluids passing through daily.

My biggest thing though is people not using soap.

Who mentioned twice a day.

Nannyfannybanny · 14/11/2025 12:13

It's not laziness at all. I always had greasy skin from an early age, periods at 11, did what I thought was necessary. 5 years ago, dry skin vulval eczema, laying in a saline bath in the middle of the night crying with the pain. Bleeding, unable to walk or even wear cotton pants. Sitting on the sofa naked from the waist down covered with a throw. A year wait to see a consultant, then I was send incorrectly to gynae..I took out my old ISA and went private, guess what, the dermatologist said we shower/bath/wash too much. Destroy the skins mantle, biome, and the beneficial bacteria.
