Hate showering & washing my hair-Do you shower every day?

Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

If I'm going out, even to the shops, I would always at least have a shower that morning.

If I'm staying in and working from home, I'm happy to skip a day though and it's better for my skin.

I only wash my hair 2 or 3 times a week though unless I've been doing something that makes my scalp feel grotty.

Today's obsession with being squeaky clean in every aspect of living drives me mad..I rarely shower, bath yes x2 or 3 times a week, hair wash every time..but every day I put in the box with disinfectant for yr washing machine, dishwasher, washing clothes after wearing once etc.

This
Older generations would not have washed every bloody day. Too expensive and unnecessary, unless they come home from a 'dirty' job (e.g. coal mines, mortuary, car mechanics).
Parts of the world where water is precious and cannot be wasted on a daily splurge.
People should use common sense, if you're getting smelly, sweaty, dirty etc - wash away. For some this may mean every day, others 2-3 days what does it matter?

Bowies · 14/11/2025 00:25

If I shower I also have to wash and condition my hair or it feels gross, so that’s off putting.

I don’t shower or bath every day, as it’s not great for skin barrier, hair and our microbiome and not necessary unless eg daily run or intense workout.

I do think once a week especially with school runs and dog walks not enough, but 3x a week would be supported by many dermatologists.

Is it just showers or the feel of water in general? Are you okay with a quick wash at the sink?

Todayismyfavouriteday · 14/11/2025 01:00

Yuck. I hate sitting next to someone on a bus and smelling a person or standing in line at the supermarket next to who has not showered in two or three days. I would be uncomfortable around my children, also... and myself. A shower takes five minutes. Hair can be washed every few days, as for your privates, yuck.

chezzabee80 · 14/11/2025 01:07

Yeah I agree, I can't be bothered, if I excersised everyday I would though but otherwise it's an effort, time consuming and uncomfortable, I'm hsp (highly sensitive) so unless it's summer I don't like my hair being cold and wet so I guess a sensory thing but I do have baths during the week and wash hair when I have to usually twice a week unless I'm going out then more often.

How on earth do you know how long it's been since these strangers showered 😂

I hate the idea and don't enjoy doing it but love feeling fresh after.
I especially struggle with water on my face. I have no idea why. I wash my face, but absolutely hate doing it or the feeling of water dripping on my face.
I try to shower every 2 days. Occasionally it goes 3 if I'm not doing anything that day. In summer it will be every day during hot weather. On days I don't shower I use a flannel and shower gel to do a quick wash before getting dressed.

I’m exactly the same. I hate water on my face and head. When I get out I dry my face really quickly and slightly aggressively to get rid of the wet feeling.

I shower about 3/4 times a week, hair wash twice. I don’t like feeling unclean around the derrière and I’m always very worried about smelling of BO and having that smell on my clothes.

True.. maybe they showered in the morning, but have BO by lunchtime! 😁Though I must say, the smell of unwashed skin after three or four days is pretty distinct!

mathanxiety · 14/11/2025 04:42

Yes, I shower daily. I wash my hair less frequently in winter.

Do you have a cold bathroom?

Icybird7 · 14/11/2025 04:58

You have to find what works for you
I never shower at home ,ever ..just can't ..it's just an extra demand on top of a million demands I'm already trying to juggle.
And we have the most beautiful walk in shower and lovely cosmetics
But obviously I needed a way to keep clean ..
So I swim ,have done for years ..every morning very early,.a natural part of the swim is the shower and hair wash after .
If the swimming pool shut ,I'd very soon smell .

Maraudingmarauders · 14/11/2025 05:28

I shower and wash my hair every day. Occasionally if I’m wfh I’ll do the nursery run pre-shower and shower when I get back to make life a bit less hectic in the mornings and I feel like I’ve got a giant beacon over me going SHES NOT SHOWERED LOOK HOW FILTHY SHE IS haha. I don’t think I’ve skipped a day in about 20years, even at times when I’ve been incredibly unwell with limited mobility. I had a shower at 4pm after my C-section at 2am haha!

Because people who don't shower every day smell!

localnotail · 14/11/2025 06:39

I think people who shower every day but wear the same clothes for several days smell as bad as people who don't shower. To me, the idea of putting on again something I wore for a whole day yesterday is gross.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 14/11/2025 06:39

Wash hair and full body every three days, wash smelly areas every day (use a shower cap).

becca2405 · 14/11/2025 06:41

Sorry but that is gross! What about in the Summer?? 🤢

Possibly ADHD, executive dysfunction- I struggle with it so bad! Showering is the hardest thing for me to do, pretty much always has been 😫 I wish it wasn’t, but it just is. I started ADHD meds a couple of months ago and it has got much easier ❤️

Imo, unless you ask people (or live with them) , its not possible to smell and detect to the nearest hour/day ...when that person showered...

LaDamaDeElche · 14/11/2025 07:33

I love showers - I need one in the morning to wake up and go to the gym a lot, so shower after that too. In the summer (live in Spain) we need to shower in the evening too as it’s in the mid to late 30s, so you’re really sweaty. I understand about washing hair though, it’s the faff of drying it that’s annoying, so I tend to wash my hair every three days. If it gets a bit sweaty from a workout I use dry shampoo and dry it with a cool hairdryer. I try to only do really sweaty workouts on the day I’m going to wash it. My daughter is like you and could go days without, but now she’s 16 she seems to be forcing herself to shower daily and wash her hair more often. She has ADHD and I think a dislike of showering and hair washing is fairly common. When she does get in the mood to do it she’s in the bathroom for bloody ages though!!

They really don't.

Noneofus · 14/11/2025 08:08

If I am not going out all day I sometimes don’t shower, especially if WFH snd have got ready late to start work. However, I always have an upper body wash in sink and do genitals and arse too. If you are going a week without washing, you probably do smell, and no, no one will tell you this.

oceanraine · 14/11/2025 08:18

When I worked in an office 5 days a week I showered every other day because I didn't feel the need to do it every night, clean clothes and underwear every day but hair wash and shower every other day was fine.

Now I'm a SAHM I have to shower every day because I sweat so much more running after a toddler, cooking more and generally getting dirty from being outside. I couldn't bare to not shower everyday now.

MellowPinkBee · 14/11/2025 08:20

Shower or bath every single day, cannot imagine why a human being would not. Yuk!!!!

pilates · 14/11/2025 08:31

Just a question for those that don’t shower/bathe frequently, if somebody said to you that you smell would it make you change your personal hygiene habits?

Skodacool · 14/11/2025 08:36

If you don't shower every day what do you do about deodorant? You can't put that on top of yesterday's?
You wash under your arms!
