Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

My house doesn’t stink, I have cleaners once a week, I don’t stink either. I did say if i’m on holidays/ not working going out really, but this is not a regular thing! But I don’t shower every day, always on work days and meeting friends etc

It will smell but you're nose blind to it as it's a normal smell to you.

The thread about walking out of a viewing shows how people don't think they're dogs don't smell yet it's one of the top reasons.

I shower every day , wash hair every second day .
During the winter on a Sunday if I decide to occasionally have a pj day , well then I won’t shower that day , but come Monday morning I can’t wait to jump in shower again..
I can get down & out with peri menopause, & I always find if I jump in shower it makes me feel more cheerful , that may sound weird , but it’s the truth 🤷🏻‍♀️ ..
It’s just refreshing I guess ..

Pinkocsb · 13/11/2025 21:55

Shower every day if I can. Sometimes can’t face it. Are you feeling depressed OP? Or maybe you have adhd or autism and can’t cope with the sensory aspect. Talk with your gp about depression just in case x

gilesfaithbuffyangel · 13/11/2025 21:57

Every day, sometimes every other depending what I’m doing
hair twice a week, takes bloody ages to dry it

ThatChristmasMug · 12/11/2025 19:56

in fairness, it's irrelevant if your hair is greasy or dry in term of smell. It can look clean but still smell unpleasant.

But in fairness it’s not healthy to wash your hair daily either. I couldn’t go a week without washing mine but I imagine someone with dry hair and skin could.

Sleepysleepycoffeecoffee · 13/11/2025 22:00

I just can’t be bothered with it most of the time but there are occasionally times when I enjoy a shower because I feel like I need one. This isn’t every day though. I mostly shower every other day before bed. Sometimes I go two days without a shower. I always wash my face morning and evening and wear clean underwear and tops every day. I wear trousers twice before they go in the wash. I only need to wash my hair a couple of times a week. I use wet toilet wipes instead of normal loo roll. I am not someone who exercises except running around after my kids and the older I get the less I sweat, so I don’t need deodorant unless it’s very warm weather. The exception to this showering routine is when I’m on my period in which case I do shower daily.

SmallandSpanish · 13/11/2025 22:06

This is my second post on this as I feel strongly that we as women particularly have been brainwashed by the cosmetic industry and programmed with so much self loathing that we think it’s disgusting to be our natural selves. Yes shower after exercise cos it feels good, shower when your hair gets greasy cos it feels good. Shower as a way to relax if it works for you. But to say or feel it’s disgusting NOT to shower every regardless of personal preference is just weird. You do you, don’t let the media over ride your natural instincts and daily life choices

OchreReader · 13/11/2025 22:08

I’m going through chemo at the moment and sometimes the thought of getting in a bath or shower makes me want to cry because it exhausts me. I always have a good wash down below at the sink with soap and water twice daily, but often rely on freshwipes for the rest of my body x

echt · 13/11/2025 22:11

I don't like showers and baths so as and when, with sink washes in between. I wash my hair once every three weeks, with occasional washes of the dangly/fringey bits of my up-do to zhuzh it up.

italianlondongirl · 13/11/2025 22:13

I do take the point about not necessarily liking the sensation of water pounding down on you from above. But isn't that what the hand held shower is for? To easily wash below the waist?
I mean, people saying they're not dirty...don't they produce normal excretions which need to be rinsed away daily? It's a bit mucky otherwise

If you’re a skin therapist, surely you know that this is not true for most people. It’s not showering that’s bad, it’s how you do it. Normal hygiene and daily showering does not harm skin the health of skin. It removes oils and impurities (and odour) and can help support the skin if it is done properly.

For people like me who have normal skin, it is just fine. I moisturise my whole body after a shower, but that’s mostly for the enjoyment of it rather than a skin issue.

Dry or sensitive skin people can still usually shower daily, but use products and water temperatures that suit them.

sorry I will follow the advice of my qualified dermatologist. showering every day worsens my skin condition regardless of what cleans etc I use

I can sometimes smell people's jeans. I think jeans get stinky.

I haven't noticed it with jeans, but I have with coats. Wash or dryclean your coats, folks!

schtompy · 13/11/2025 22:21

Today's obsession with being squeaky clean in every aspect of living drives me mad..I rarely shower, bath yes x2 or 3 times a week, hair wash every time..but every day I put in the box with disinfectant for yr washing machine, dishwasher, washing clothes after wearing once etc.

T1Dmama · 13/11/2025 22:21

Christ.. I can’t leave the house without showering…. I shower every single morning, wash hair every morning too….
If I’ve done anything ‘dirty’ during the day I shower at night too!

TickyTacky · 13/11/2025 22:22

I dislike the rigmarole of showering and bathing and found myself getting anxious about making sure I always had fresh hair for the right days/ events. So now I take the stress out by showering basically every day, if I have a bath late one evening I might skip the following day but the more I shower the less anxious I feel about getting it 'right'.
I also bought myself lots of different shower gels & shampoos etc and use them in any order I like, rather than 'I have to use one up completely before opening another' mentality. It's made life much less stressful & more enjoyable. Before I used to shower and wash my hair every other day.

Specialcrumpets · 13/11/2025 22:22

I’m on day 7 of not showering. I feel perfectly fine. Smell fine. Will shower tomorrow

CathyFitzs · 13/11/2025 22:23

I absolutely loathe it too, although I try never to go longer than two days without a shower and I do have an old fashioned flannel wash on the days I don’t shower!😹
I think I hate it so much because as a child we had an outside loo ( I’m old!) until I was 11 so baths- only once a week- were horrible- three of us crammed in a tin bath, two inches of water and freezing in winter and even when we moved into a house with a bathroom it was still freezing in winter and hardly any water in the bath. Hair washing was equally grim- bent over the kitchen sink with a ladle! So, even though I have a lovely en suite power shower I still hate it- I think it’s because I can’t shake off the trauma of those years until I left home. First world problem
im ashamed to say.

BooneyBeautiful · 13/11/2025 22:26

I am physically disabled, so I struggle to shower, and the drying takes me so long! However, I do shower twice a week and wash my hair at the same time. I have a strip wash on the other days. "Pits and bits, and holes and soles" as Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher say.

Tryingatleast · 13/11/2025 22:28

I think people know if they smell/ aren’t clean- if you’re at all worried you smell them you probably do but I used to be like you and I didn’t (dh hygiene obsessed, he’d have noticed!), I used to three times a week and was fine (because deodorant does do the job!!!) I think the more people wash the quicker they get sweaty and people are gone ott nowasdats with showering which is nuts given the state of the environment!!!

Saying that now I’m possibly perimenopausal I wake up sweating and stinking daily so have no option but to go all in.

Wheretoholiday71 · 13/11/2025 22:30

I love a long hot shower, always feel so much better after it. Do you not exercise most days? I would absolutely have to shower after exercise, even if it was a quick 5 minute body shower. If its a day where Im not going anywhere I wouldn't be too concerned if I didnt get to shower but I just enjoy it, I"ll even shower after work but before my exercise class and then again after the class, I think when you're in close proximity with others its nice to be clean & fresh.
Id feel very@ grubby getting in to fresh underwear/clothes/pyjamas/bedsheets having not showered for a couple of days.
It can be a form of self care taking time out to just enjoy a relaxing shower, do a nice hair mask, body scrub, some nice skincare afterwards x

IMTHECRAZYOLDLADY · 13/11/2025 22:40

I was like this a while back, I was depressed. I couldn't see it at the time, but now looking back - I was definitely not in a good place. With the days shorter, I'm forcing myself to do more self care. It can be difficult to motivate myself, but I do feel better for it

StarsonaNighttimeSea · 13/11/2025 22:56

I genuinely think that in the not so distant future people will look back at this and be aghast at the amount of water wasted bathing so much.

I shower maybe once or twice a week. Ideally the evening or morning before work (part time). Exercise and I are not on speaking terms atm though I do walk everywhere. If any part of me gets stinky a quick flannel to the offending area sorts it out. It's likely I'm ND.

Pam100127 · 13/11/2025 23:07

I shower and wash my hair everyday - sometimes I shower twice in the summer.

Lobleylimlam · 13/11/2025 23:26

I might go a day without a shower if i'm not leaving the house at all and I feel ok, but mostly shower daily. I get it, its a chore, even though its like 15 mins in yotaly, getting undressed, shower, good scrub, hair wash, rinse, skincare after then new clothes/pjs. Its annoying but has to be done and like you say you always would on a work day and i would too. Just one of those mundane parts of life!
