Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

As a usual every other day / couple of times a day showerer I’m having a right week. I had a shower and then into the bath yesterday. Today I’ve just showered with shower gel, the dettol soap and then special pink pre-surgery liquid. I’ll do the same in the morning. I cannot say I feel much different cleanliness wise than my usual and I’ve had a sniff and can’t tell the difference.

With people that smell it’s usually that they aren’t changing their clothes frequently, teenagers and blazers that are washed once a term come to mind. Stale sweat in clothing smells and when you get warm it smells even worse.

Hair does begin to smell if not washed, but takes a good few days to a week.

PersephonePomegranate · 13/11/2025 20:58

Yes, everyday, I cant stand feeling unclean. I really don't get washing your body but not your scalp so I usually wash my hair every day too, which I know is not ideal!

Tosserneighbour · 13/11/2025 21:00

I have an extremely oily skin type, which means I have to wash body and hair every day or else I start breaking out. Hair is greasy as soon as I wake up, and dirt sticks easily to me. On top of that, I sweat every night and wake up stinky and minging. It's such a chore, and if I didn't have to do it every day, I wouldn't.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 13/11/2025 21:04

I hate it, only do it a couple of times a week and wash face, pits and bits the other days with cold water.
I hate cleaning my teeth too and have to force myself to do it while reading or listening to something as a distraction. It’s not laziness, it’s a sensory thing. I am working on it though, I’d like to be better.

Gremlins101 · 13/11/2025 21:04

I shower most days as I dont like going to bed feeling icky.
Less in winter though. I can usually get away with a second day if ive only potterred about. Our house is cold so its less enjoyable I suppose.

A week is gross, yeast will be growing in your crevices by then

LittleMyLabyrinth · 13/11/2025 21:12

Daily showers are a modern invention. Back in the day it was a weekly bath/hair wash and a daily washcloth for bits that get smelly. I find showers a bother myself so I do that but I also wash my lower legs/arms when I've been at work because I work with kids and they are germ factories. I don't get sweaty or smelly but if I did have an epic workout or get dirty in some particular way I would obviously have an extra shower.

AngelsandAliens · 13/11/2025 21:16

I think that’s pretty gross you say you could easily go a week without a shower , I feel horrible if I don’t have one first thing , say on a weekend it would be later than a work day and I can’t wait to feel clean again .

1reason · 13/11/2025 21:21

Can I throw another issue into the mix? Something I only discovered was even a thing recently.
Nonenal - otherwise known as 'old people smell'. It's fatty deposits on the skin and starts from age 40!
There is lots of information online about it. Apparently, persimmon soap is the only way to wash it off. Normal soap/ shower gel doesn't remove it.

Calliopespa · 13/11/2025 21:22

I quite like showering so I do, even twice daily at times.

For many years I kind of thought something would happen if I didn't, but in recent years (lockdown, loss of water during bathroom renovation etc) I have had a few times when I didn't and actually nothing that much happened. I didn't erupt in pimples or stink to high heaven or any of the things I had always feared!

I hate this, there is plenty of people with adhd who live in a tidy clean home and wash themselves daily, run businesses, show up.
It is "can't be bothered" mode, procrastination at its finest, labelled as ND.

I hate this, you think because you know someone who is ND and can do things we should all be able to. How does that makes sense.

Apologies OP, I don't mean to derail your thread. I see no issues wwithnot showring everyday unles you sweat a lot/ do manual labour etc.

I can sometimes smell people's jeans. I think jeans get stinky.

Lovehascomeandgone · 13/11/2025 21:26

I shower every day at least once a day and have to wash my hair daily. I love feeling clean but I hate having to go through the process of washing my hair and then everything else. It’s like Groundhog Day and I just don’t have the energy. I wish someone could come and wash me 😂😂😂

suki1964 · 13/11/2025 21:26

As a child of the 60s where we had bath nights on Sunday, then living in flats that only had a bath and an immersion heater till the mid 90's, when a combo boiler changed my life, I bathed very irregularly

Once the combi and cheap hot water was a thing I got used to a shower every day

How Im on the oil - expensive - and I dont work all day every day - and Im older, hair is no longer greasy, skin is drying , I shower 3/4 times a week

I dont smell, Im not dirty , I wash every day - twice. Nothing is dropping off from rot, no one is moving away from me cos of smell - there is none

sleeppleasesoon · 13/11/2025 21:26

I’m the same OP. It gets on my nerves.

I wash my face and under my arms daily. Shower and wash hair twice a week.

SmallandSpanish · 13/11/2025 21:28

It is your prerogative. Your body. Do what makes you feel comfortable. End off.

Mummysof · 13/11/2025 21:29

I only struggle with this when I am struggling with my mental health, a bath followed by my shower every night I wash my hair 3 times a week x

Flomingho · 13/11/2025 21:34

Some people get more sweaty and smelly quicker than others. Personally, I have to shower every day to feel fresh. Hair washing every other day to 3 days at the most.

@LittleMyLabyrinth - of course they are, thankfully hygiene standards have improved dramatically since the once a week wash in a tin bath in front of the fire. People were a lot smellier back in the day.

Same here. I am ND and basic things like self care is a really huge struggle for me.
If someone is ND and find those easy then fine. Plenty of us are the opposite.

dcthatsme · 13/11/2025 21:42

I shower every morning. I love putting on clean clothes and spritzing myself with cologne. I associate not washing with depression or being poorly. I feel slightly seedy and pongy if I don't shower. Showering makes me feel ready for the day. Hairwash is more like every 2-3 days.

If you’re a skin therapist, surely you know that this is not true for most people. It’s not showering that’s bad, it’s how you do it. Normal hygiene and daily showering does not harm skin the health of skin. It removes oils and impurities (and odour) and can help support the skin if it is done properly.

For people like me who have normal skin, it is just fine. I moisturise my whole body after a shower, but that’s mostly for the enjoyment of it rather than a skin issue.

Dry or sensitive skin people can still usually shower daily, but use products and water temperatures that suit them.

The oils that are removed are the ones your skin needs to stay healthy.

Mumwithbaggage · 13/11/2025 21:48

I hate washing my hair but that's because I have fine useless hair that looks awful no matter how much effort I make.

You have a bath AND a shower EVERY day?? That’s so much water!

AngeloMysterioso · 13/11/2025 21:50

I have terrible eczema, if I showered every day my skin would be screaming.
