Hate showering & washing my hair-Do you shower every day?

Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

Yes, but I'm a very sweaty girl and I'd be a bit stinky and unpleasant to be around otherwise. I run early in the morning and have a gym session to so always jump in the shower afterwards. I'm conscious that it's probs not best for my skin to be scrubbing every inch of it with soap so I tend to stick to pits and bits unless my legs are all muddy. I often only use water on my face unless it's grimy and then I use a gentle salicylic acid cleanser. Slather on some Aveeno and then I'm done. Very occasionally ill have a strip wash at the washbasin to freshen up.

Every day April to October. Every other day November to March.

How on earth can you say that someone doesn't smell because they showered that day, or because they don't actually smell bad? You simply don't know unless you're in the bathroom with them that morning.

Totally agree with you Loew

For me, I'm in the bath 3 times a week, shower twice a week and that's when I wash my hair. If you asked different age groups you'd get different responses. I used to wash my hair about 5 times a week when younger.

cornflakecrunchie · 13/11/2025 20:09

Any 'wipes' will block pipes. Only pee, poo & paper should go down the loo. Not even tissues.

As for my baths & showers, no-one's business but my own.
Strip washes are fine. My mum in law would say she'd wash down as far as possible, & up as far as possible, & poor old possible never got washed!

I think some of you are awful & rude about others' bathing habits. Mind your own.

housethatbuiltme · 13/11/2025 20:10

I have always hated it too.

Its not so much the showering part as the being wet afterwards. In a heatwave its not so bad, I think I just hate being wet and cold.

I also cannot stand water rides (I have an actual fear of log flumes not from the ride but the splash) or walking in the rain etc...

freakingscared · 13/11/2025 20:11

This threat makes me 🤢 and I finally realised why so many people smell on supermarkets and public transport . I bet those saying they don’t smell with 2 showers a week only can no longer smell their BO but trust me others can

What brand is this, please?

It's an American supermarket brand. I live there, but am British. I'm sure you can get something similar in the UK, though, if that's where you are.

Thank you! Yes, I'm in the UK 👍

If they are biodegradeable and flushable, like mine, they break apart on flushing and then they biodegrade. It probably helps that they are quite small, much smaller than baby wipes.

Emeraldforest · 13/11/2025 20:13

I rarely shower, ours is not very good and I hate them anyway. We had communal showers at school after PE and I'm still haunted.
I much prefer a bath, but I don't know,I resent the time spent in one unless I feel particularly achey.
A lot of people didn't have bathrooms when I was growing up in the 50s and much as I wouldn't go back to that, we managed pretty well at the sink with our flannels and lifebouy soap!

Emeraldforest · 13/11/2025 20:15

I do shower every day when I'm staying at my partners. It's only polite!

grizzlyoldbear · 13/11/2025 20:16

Only because I like showering, I don't think it's necessary to shower every day at all

pilates · 13/11/2025 20:16

Yes gross.

I work with a lady who doesn’t shower regularly and yes she does smell.

StephensLass1977 · 13/11/2025 20:17

I do wash daily because I run and spin most days. Run with the younger dog because he needs the exercise and it helps with my mental health, and spin at home maybe x3 a week since we invested in a bike.

However I absolutely detest washing my hair. It feels like a lot of work, and I truly wouldn't do that every day if I didn't work out.

ThisTipsyGreyCrab · 13/11/2025 20:17

I LOVE showering.. it really relaxes me and I have some of my best ideas there! I also like baths, swimming, the sea anything to do with water really. I’ll often have 2-3 very short showers a day where I just wash the necessary bits (armpits and down under). TMI but if I poo and I’m home I’ll always jump in the shower after a quick wipe (I figure if I got poo on my arm there no way wiping it off with tissue would satisfy me!). I only wash hair, shave, scrub and am more thorough approx twice a week. I have a very sensitive sense of smell and really notice if people aren’t clean..

woollybean · 13/11/2025 20:18

I loathe washing my hair but hate having dirty hair so it’s a mental battle. No problem with showering or bathing but only every other day usually. Have you a partner or family/friends who would tell you if you smell. Re smelling of your dog, I don’t think I have ever come across anyone who smells of their dog 😂. Yes I have a dog but I haven’t always.

CharlieEffie · 13/11/2025 20:19

Shower at least every other day hair once a week mostly. On advice of hairdresser. Washing it everyday isnt healthy for it (i have long v thick hair so may be different for other hair types)

VaguelyAccountable · 13/11/2025 20:19

Sorry, but that's gross. Hate to break it to you, but you probably smell and are totally oblivious.

YYYDlilah · 13/11/2025 20:20

@SoftBalletShoes , If they are biodegradeable and flushable, like mine, they break apart on flushing and then they biodegrade. It probably helps that they are quite small, much smaller than baby wipes.

Flusshable means that it will go away when you flush. It does not mean you should flush it.
Biodegradable means it will break down by organisms.

From Thames Water site:

1. Only flush the three Ps

That’s pee, poo and (toilet) paper. Anything else can block your pipes. Wet wipes, period products, nappies, cotton wool, dental floss, condoms and hair all belong in the bin.

TheSpiritofDarkandLonelyWater · 13/11/2025 20:21

No I dont. It is something I really struggle with. I am autistic and I really struggle with executive dysfunction and also doing things that I hate.

oggie679 · 13/11/2025 20:25

Yeah in my humble opinion it's gross, I'm surprised it's almost 50:50 in the voting tbh. I'm not a big bath fan but I like a shower and feel super gross if I leave my hair unwashed too long or am distracted by the school run and meetings and haven't showered by midday. Perhaps if you're a guy it's different but as a woman I could not leave it more than a day and although it happened after having twins I feel itchy and gross when I don't.

bigsisteriswatchingyou · 13/11/2025 20:26

We used to bath once a week and sometimes that was in bath water that dad had already used, I love a bath but only have a shower now and only use it a couple of times aweek, more if it’s hot weather or I’ve been to gym. We bath too much nowadays and wash away naturals on skin and hair.

Joeninety · 13/11/2025 20:26

I don't like it, but needs must. I just consider it as unpaid work !

grrrlatrix · 13/11/2025 20:29

I have a bath every day.
Hair wash twice a week. Don’t like feeling grubby.

MrsJeanLuc · 13/11/2025 20:31

QuiltPlantCandle · 13/11/2025 19:37

Surely it would be just as quick and easy (if not quicker and easier) to have a quick shower rather than a strip wash?

Kindly, no.🙂
