Hate showering & washing my hair-Do you shower every day?

Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

I have to do it but I don’t get any pleasure or satisfaction from it like other seem to. It’s very much a chore for me. I find going the toilet a chore as well. 😆

knor · 13/11/2025 19:42

I do understand hair washing as that does take a while but a body shower, I’m afraid I disagree. Having a shower makes me feel so much better. I could easily shower twice a day (I know it can not be the best for your natural skin oils) I wfh but still shower every day

Tablesandchairs23 · 13/11/2025 19:43

Yeah you're gross.

Thanks for the answer. The environmental impact of wipes makes me flinch a bit, but I can see how that’s quick! Doesn’t the armpit water run all over the floor though?!

My local supermarket brand of flushable wipes (am British but living abroad) says:

"Safe for well-maintained sewers and septics (Not recommended for use with basement pump systems."

Like you, I suspect it might still be better not to put them down the loo. But then you have to consider the impact of saving water and also saving energy heating said water.

The underarm water does run a bit, yes. I have to bend over the sink well, but it does run down my sides a bit. I just dry it off when drying my underarms.

Did anyone ever consider how much water was being used during tbe water shortage/hosepipe ban. Just asking.

No way am I skipping a shower in summer, yeesh! You can usually scrub yourself quickly and cut down on the time and temperature, though.

Jollyhockeystickss · 13/11/2025 19:45

OMG nooo what about your lady bits and under your arms, how are your lady bits not smelly, i love having a shower every morning it wakes me up and im clean i love it,

ThatChristmasMug · 12/11/2025 19:56

in fairness, it's irrelevant if your hair is greasy or dry in term of smell. It can look clean but still smell unpleasant.

Oh my god I really hate the smell of dirty hair.

dEdiCatEdFeliNeEntHusiAst · 13/11/2025 19:49

I used to shower or bath every day no matter what, but as my chronic pain has got worse over the years and now struggling with OA in hips its even worse. It takes all my energy to get out of bed in the morning for work and in the evening I'm exhausted so it's shower twice a week and hair wash once.

SoftBalletShoes · 13/11/2025 19:50

Since we're on the subject of hygiene, I am recently using minimal toilet paper!

Bear with me...

Other parts of the world think we are dirty for not washing with water after the loo, you know. They think our loo roll-only custom is gross. So I bought a bidet bottle for the times when I'm - ahem - in the loo for longer than a wee. It's AMAZING! The nozzle focuses the stream right up in there, and I feel so clean after! Finish off with a flushable wet wipe or some loo roll.

Much better for the climate not to use loo paper! (Although I guess you have to offset the water use.) But it's also cheaper to use minimal loo roll.

I use this one!

I am a mucky pup and not sorry.
When it's cold, I don't shower often, wash hair once a week cos it's thick and takes hours to dry.
In the summer when it's hot or when doing grubby jobs eg gardening etc, I shower daily or even twice a day.
I don't smell.
I think people generally are obsessed with cleanliness.
I remember my dad having a weekly bath and getting my mum to scrub his back. He had a sedentary job and didn't smell either.

Mrswhiskers87 · 13/11/2025 19:52

I shower every day, maybe once or twice a month I don’t (if I’m having a lazy day or not well or something). I wash my hair every third day. I like to shower before bed, then get straight into cosy pjs and bed. On hair washing days I obviously dry my hair before bed.

Kellph83 · 13/11/2025 19:52

I bath every day sometimes twice, depending how tired I am. I wash my hair 3 times a week. I couldn’t go out of the house without showering/batheing! It’s gross imo.

Edited

... but you're still using a loo roll and wet wipes?

Or, you can have a Navy shower. That's where you turn the water off while soaping and scrubbing. Get wet at the start and at the end to rinse. Called so because that's apparently what Navy members do when showering at sea, to save the limited fresh-water supply.

YYYDlilah · 13/11/2025 19:53

@SoftBalletShoes , do not flush 'flushable' wet wipes. They do not break down.

This ⬆️ exactly.

... but you're still using a loo roll and wet wipes?

Either/or, and only one sheet to finish off. Before my wonderful bidet bottle, I used loads of loo roll, especially as I have a bathroom condition. I'll spare you the deets!

SoftBalletShoes · 13/11/2025 19:56

RanyaJerodung · 13/11/2025 19:54

This ⬆️ exactly.

They do if they're biodegradable, and my brand says they are. They are also much smaller than baby wipes.

henlake7 · 13/11/2025 19:57

These people who can't grasp how someone can have a successful sink wash!😂
It's pretty simple. You soap up your chosen sections (under arms/boobs, lady bits, bot and finish with soles of feet for me) then you rinse. If you partially ring out your flannel you don't get any drips.
It's no quicker or slower then a shower, just depends how long you take.

I'm very old school as my boiler is broken and I've had no hot water for years so sink washes are completely normal for me. Unless you are getting very sweaty or dirty you really don't need to clean your entire body every day.

Finto1111 · 13/11/2025 19:59

I do sink washes too! Love a sink wash

What brand is this, please?

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/11/2025 19:59

I struggle with this too. It's not the showering as such it's the having wet hair out of the shower. I hate it. I've tried showering but not wetting my hair but then my hair still feels weird and looks puffy. Same issue using a shower cap, it's the moisture. It makes me shudder. I think it's a sensory issue

Thank you! 😃so it's a reduction overall, I see.

I use toilet wipes not dry toilet paper

@Dontfeelchristmassyyet I don’t shower or wash my hair every day and nor do my kids! I say, do what works for you and your life

Alittlefrustrated · 13/11/2025 20:02

Shower every morning. Shower at night if I've done sweaty exercise or sat on a public toilet 😅
Before retirement I showered twice every day, due the to nature of my job.
In my youth, my hair was washed every day. Now can sometimes last 3 days. Doesn't get greasy anymore. I hate washing/drying my hair due to hot flushes.
