Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

I also hate showering, hate my skin feeling wet. I shower and wash my hair every other day and wash face, pits and tits the other days. If hot, sweaty been gardening or walking then shower but I do dislike it. That said I dont like the water (sea/pools etc) and really think it's to do with hating my skin being wet 🤔 If I was rich I would pay someone to wash and blow dry my hair everyday as I find that a chore but love a trip to the hairdressers! When I was young we had a bath once a week and strip washed daily so you really font need to shower everyday and are not "dirty" if you don't. Also some people get skin problems from over showering and losing natural skin oils. So, like the OP, I dont like showering everyday and when I do would lije a "body warm airdryer" to dry me as soon as I step out of the shower 😕

Disgusting.

Shower every day.

PeonyPatch · 13/11/2025 18:17

I find washing and drying my hair to be a chore but not baths or showers. (I have long hair).

bluebellmiriam · 13/11/2025 18:18

I have depression and anxiety and really struggle with this too .When my mental health is poor I find the the sensation of water on my skin overwhelming and unbearable.Apparently this is really common so it might be worth checking in with your doctor .Please don’t beat yourself up about this ,there can be all sorts of reasons for it and I find people can be very judgy on here!

This is hilarious. ‘The grime starts accumulating…’ conveying an image of being attack by a mob of grime beasts the moment I put on clean clothes and walk downstairs and sit at my desk…

come on, the grime accumulation threat is not quite so serious!

Sorry, no, by the time you sit down at your desk the grime will already have accumulated to a dangerous level. In fact, by the time you reach your bathroom door you are already begrimed and need to get back in the shower.

I shower at least once, usually twice & occasionally three times daily! I love being clean. I wash my hair 3-4 times per week. I’m very active, work outside a lot & hate being sweaty

I hate it too, and once a week isn't gross. I live alone and work from home so I can be gross, and since WFH I shower much less than I used to! I do wash my underarms every day before applying deodorant, and use a wet wipe on the swimsuit area though. And obvs clan teeth and wash face. But I go up to two weeks without washing my hair, with the help of some dry shampoo, and at the hairdresser recently she actually commented on what great condition my hair is in! Natural oils (I know, bit gross) are amazing for your hair, not to mention the lack of heat styling!

Frequent showering is very drying for your skin.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 13/11/2025 18:21

Love the feeling after a shower, but struggle to encourage myself more than every other day. Wash hair twice a week. Don’t exercise use- definitely should and would shower after

Sallywag134 · 13/11/2025 18:22

I shower every day. I only usually wash my hair after exercise so either 3 or 4 times a week. It’s very long and takes forever (exaggerated) to dry and style. I will also wash my hair before going for a night out. Even on a lazy Sunday or during Christmas holidays when I stay in my pyjamas all day, I’ll usually have a shower in the afternoon and put clean pyjamas on.

MusicMakesItAllBetter · 13/11/2025 18:25

I wish I had a shower although I do wonder if it would be a safe space for me as much as I feel the bathtub is...

I can easily go 3-4 days without a bath.
I can bath every day sometimes depending on what's going on in my life but as I said, I can easily go 3-4 days without.
I'll give underarms and underboobs, occasionally if I remember I'll use wipes for downstairs (festival wash type thing) but I have other areas of hygiene that I would say are worse than not showering often 🫣
I do have ADHD but it's not an excuse for not cleaning yourself apparently 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thatsnotmynamee · 13/11/2025 18:26

I'm fascinated by the people with ADHD commenting! Sounds soo like me... I just can't bear the idea of a shower, getting myself together for it. And then feel fab afterwards 🙈 I tend to shower and hair wash every second day.

Thatsnotmynamee · 13/11/2025 18:27

So amused by the people who are disgusted and distressed by us mingers 😂

regularlatte · 13/11/2025 18:28

I hate washing my hair. Well I don’t mind washing it, but the drying. Christ the drying puts fucking years on me. It gets washed every 3 days..or 4 if I can drag it out.

Showered twice per day though. All over body wash, takes about 4/5 minutes. I make it a little treat, use an olive oil bar soap to clean and my fancy L’Occitane almond stuff for smell and really try to relax for the tiniest wee bit.

I do work outdoors though and can feel a bit grim by 6pm so it’s a necessity for me. I also run quite warm and I’m a bit sticky in the mornings.

SoftBalletShoes · 13/11/2025 18:29

Beeb article.

"Performative showering" 😂😂😂

YorksMa · 12/11/2025 15:34

You're not alone. I hate showering especially and would happily never do it again if science could figure out a way to get clean without it. As I've got older, I have started to wonder if I am ND (I'm of an age where such things weren't considered) and I wonder if this is one of them.

I also hate showering. I'm OK once I'm in, but the thought of it isn't appealing.

I was diagnosed autistic in my 50's, one of the issues is "transitions", so going from one state to another (see also - going to bed; getting out of bed; leaving the house) and I think it comes under that.

It's also a common autistic trait to just not "get it". I see no value in showering if I'm working at home, as long as my hair looks OK. I wear clean clothes, wash, use anti perspirant. Seems fine to me.

notacooldad · 13/11/2025 18:29

I wash in the morning and usually bath at night. If I've done a sweaty exercise in the afternoon I'll have a quck freshen up. I havent got strong feelings either way about liking or hating being in the shower. I just don't want to feel sweaty or smell.

Kazzaa46 · 13/11/2025 18:31

It’s your life and your body so shower when you want.
I personally shower everyday as I get ripe very quickly 🤣. I’m in the hot flush stage of my life so sweat a lot.
I also have fine hair that gets greasy a day after showering although I do stretch hair washing out to 2 days by using dry shampoo.

TwoBagsOfCompost · 13/11/2025 18:33

I shower twice a day but can't be arsed to wash my hair more than twice a week and often it looks a wee bit greasy 😭😭😭

Heyhelga · 13/11/2025 18:33

Every morning straight out of bed. Find it wakes me up to start the day. Hair conditioner daily, shampoo once a week.

Buzzingabout · 13/11/2025 18:36

Are you depressed? Not wanting to wash is one sign of this.

saffy2 · 13/11/2025 18:39

No I don’t shower every day. Yes I hate it too due to the length of time it takes, I find it hard to fit it into my day and find the energy for
it. And no I don’t smell, I don’t sweat very much and my hair doesn’t get greasy either.

BlueYazoo · 13/11/2025 18:40

This was part of the realisation that I am ND tbh, I feel exactly the same

ChelseaBagger · 13/11/2025 18:41

a) we are living in a very specific snap-shot in time where warm water is abundant and easily available. Throughout most of humanity this has not been the case (still is not in many parts of the world, and likely to become less so).

b) I hate the fact that we've been conditioned to believe that any smell other than (heavily marketed) synthetic perfume is dirty. (I do understand that proper BO is not hygienic! But we shouldn't be so scared of smelling like humans)

Airspice · 13/11/2025 18:42

I don’t shower everyday and sometimes go 2-3 days! I don’t sweat horrendously and I sleep alone 😄 the truth is I can’t be bothered! I have close friends/family who I admit this to and they all say ‘well you never smell’ so I’m sticking with it! I always remember a doctor telling me not to bath my daughter every day when she was a toddler because ‘human skin wasn’t made to get wet every day’ and I took it to heart. Plus it saves water.
