Hate showering & washing my hair-Do you shower every day?

Don’t know why I hate i?! Does anyone else?

I shower on working days (3 x per week) and if meeting up with friends etc, but if i’m off for a while, I don’t, is that gross? I could easily go a week if only doing school drop off and food shop, dog walks

I swim every morning and shower and wash my hair afterwards. I have short hair to facilitate this. I love having showers and would hate to not be able to shower or bath every day.

I always find it surprising that some people choose to only wash their hair once a week, even if you have a dry scalp and hair and don't want to use shampoo that often surely you still need a co-wash to remove dirt and sweat? I think if you've got long hair and can't be bothered because of the time it takes you might be better off with shorter hair.

I shower every day. However, at my last hairdresser appointment, my hairdresser was shocked when I said I wash my hair every other day. She said that was way too much and I should only wash it once a week like her. She said daily washing is drying for the scalp and bad for hair. I just about managed five days and then recently managed a week. I admit I have hated it. But I would like my scalp to be less dry. There must be a compromise there somewhere!

I can’t stand the look and smell of
people who don’t clean themselves or their hair … the smell of unwashed hair is grim.
No reason nowadays not to bath or shower everyday … just laziness .

'Just laziness'? Really?

Can you think of any other reason why people might not shower or bathe every day?

DarkPassenger1 · 13/11/2025 17:21

Sorry, that's really disgusting and makes you sound like a petulant teenager lol.

Find ways to make it more enjoyable, or suck it up and just get on with it.

It takes me 20m to shower and wash my hair in a morning, every morning. It's worth the investment to know I'm fresh and clean throughout the day. I honestly couldn't go about my day knowing I hadn't showered and washed my hair before leaving the house and I'm not even a very sweaty person.

I find the more i wash my hair the easier it is to manage! If I go 3 days its all poofy after a wash.

Hairdressers are notorious for spreading nonsense about hair health lol. Wash your hair as often as it needs in order to be clean and healthy, that's it. I wash mine daily and it's in fantastic condition, gets loads of compliments. If your hair can tolerate less frequent washes, great, go for it. But don't be hoodwinked into keeping your hair dirty because someone that isn't you claims it's bad for it. It's nonsense.

You are not fresh and clean throughout the day

the grime starts accumulating the moment you leave the shower - I can’t understand you ever leaving it - I mean who wants 29 mins of grime and muck and sweat - vile

Lavenderblue11 · 13/11/2025 17:50

Yuk! I shower every morning and most evenings as well. We even have a portable shower set-up for when we go camping in our tent! I couldn't function if I felt grubby!

Pinkdhalia · 13/11/2025 17:55

I shower and wash my hair everyday. I put on a full face of makeup. Even if I’m not leaving my house I feel good.

Willyoujust · 13/11/2025 17:59

I would feel so disgusting if I did that. I should think that you smell.

Nyata · 13/11/2025 18:00

Twice a day without fail.

MissMeowsky · 13/11/2025 18:02

I have ADHD and I hate the idea of showering. But once I’m in the shower, I can stay forever. Go figure.

Lavender14 · 13/11/2025 18:03

I wash my hair once or twice a week and I have a full shower three times a week but I will do a quick wash of armpits, face, groin etc anywhere that might get stinky every day using the sink. I'm not that sweaty. If I'm exercising I'll shower after but I tend to exercise on full shower days anyway. My skin gets very dry and irritated if I do it more than that and I've a lot of hair that I cba to wash more often.

WeeWeegieChick · 13/11/2025 18:04

searchforthesun · 12/11/2025 15:28

Dont you exercise?

Sensory without a doubt, I am much the same.

Lollipop81 · 13/11/2025 18:05

that Isn’t nice. I can’t go longer than a day without showering, I have one every morning so I’m fresh for the day. I don’t see the point of showering at night to then go and lie in your own sweat etc 🤣🤣 but I enjoy showering it makes me feel nice during and after nice fresh feeling after. I don’t wash my hair everyday though it’s not good for hair to be washed too often.

Pharazon · 13/11/2025 18:05

Shower and wash hair every day after exercise as I'm drenched in sweat.

angela1952 · 13/11/2025 18:06

I hate drying my hair and only wash it once or twice a week. I don't shower, I prefer to take baths.

WFHforevermore · 13/11/2025 18:07

I bathe maybe every other day wash my hair once a week.

ProudMamaBear92 · 13/11/2025 18:07

I get you and I used to be the same, also have other friends the same and we’re not gross people. If you have long thick hair and fake tan it’s not unusual! For me I love showering but I hate drying off and then putting clothes on if I’m not completely dry. It gives me the ick. But I do shower most days now as I go to the gym a lot. If I’m on a day off and just mooching about, no I won’t shower.

This is hilarious. ‘The grime starts accumulating…’ conveying an image of being attack by a mob of grime beasts the moment I put on clean clothes and walk downstairs and sit at my desk…

come on, the grime accumulation threat is not quite so serious!

WFHforevermore · 13/11/2025 18:08

This is a thread we need the laughing emoji on!!

Blablibladirladada · 13/11/2025 18:11

I feel the opposite and can’t get in a good headspace if I don’t have a shower.
i understand one lazy day if everyone is staying in pj or something like that but I will « delay » and take it in the afternoon instead lol

CWigtownshire · 13/11/2025 18:11

I agree with you OP. I do the same. It's not good for your hair or skin to wash it every day anyway. Obviously I have a wash if I'm smelly and wash my face and "bits" daily.

So the grime sits at bay until 23 hrs after the last shower and then launches itself at you?

StillFeelingTired · 13/11/2025 18:12

I hate showering but hate feeling grotty slightly more. I shower every night before bed because I live feeling clean before getting into bed. If I am going to the office then I will also shower in the morning because I am slightly obsessed with not smelling as I have a colleague who does not wash often and you can tell I am afraid.

It tickled me too, the notion that you leave the shower and start accumulating dust, sweat and various other detritus haha. What a funny way with words.
