Our school has banned the word Christmas?

Fayethefair · 09/11/2025 09:30

I’ve heard from a friend on my DD’s school’s ptfa that our Cambridgeshire school has banned the word Christmas to make the school events feel more inclusive. So now it’s Festive Party, Festive Fayre etc. I’m happy to let mumsnet know the name of the school if they don’t feel this post is genuine so they can check this themselves but I won’t put names on here as this is my child’s school, I just don’t think this right and want to see what others think.

My daughter attended a Diwali lunch put on by the school recently and I genuinely thought this was lovely. I feel everything should be represented equally, I don’t understand or agree that the head should be picking and choosing what’s allowed and what isn’t. Surely this isn’t right?

I don’t think the OP is inflating anything - it’s apparently been happening everywhere for the past couple of years.

My DCs junior school used to put on the most gorgeous Christmas fair including a giant Christmas tree and an amazing Santa’s Grotto which people queued for ages to see, Christmas music playing everywhere. It was so good that many parents kept coming with their DCs after they’d left the school.

We went a couple of years ago and were aghast (along with lots of other parents there) to find it was now called a Winter Fair and had erased any notion of Christmas - no tree, grotto or Christmas music. It used to be this lovely early December event that sort of kicked off the season for everyone, and it was literally tragic to find it replaced by this complete non-event in the name of diversity and equality inclusion.

Hoppinggreen · 10/11/2025 10:25

Oh so Muslims hate trees now?
What utter rubbish

Mothership4two · 10/11/2025 10:58

Have fun with the squabbling ladies!

No squabbling here, just don't believe it - like many others.

But OP you've been doing a fair bit of squabbling on this thread

Apart from the fact that we are a Christian country (with a state religion) and not a Hindu one? And no one apart from Hindus celebrates Diwali, whereas not just Christians celebrate Christmas.

Hindus know what they’re coming to when they move to the UK. I find the idea that they somehow don’t immensely patronising.

It’s not just Hindus who celebrate Diwali and we don’t have a state religion, but apart from that you’re spot on 🙄

SerendipityJane · 10/11/2025 11:11

Seems as good a place as any ...

Our school has banned the word Christmas?

Op call the Telegraph and daily Mail and report your school.. You won’t need to give your name. Throw some light on the situation.

I celebrate Eid and I have no religion at all, I am mainly in it for the food if I'm honest.
I will celebrate anything with anyone if they feed me

No squabbling, this thread has been quite funny 😂

Quite a pantomime, in fact.

@Luxio I wasn’t aware that you had to show concrete evidence in the AIBU column? Have other posters offered this in the past? My mistake. You’re right, I started all of this for the fun of it and to rile up the lefties 🙄

No you didn't start it up for fun to rile the lefties. We know that this is not why you did it. You did it because you are a RACIST.

Sorry (not sorry)

Mind you, I heard Muslims hate pantomines too so I expect those will be next. After all poppies were cancelled this year

God-I hate pantomimes too. Should I convert? Or start my own new religion?

Well you've offered no proof to back up your claim so I'd say the whole purpose of this thread was to "rile up the lefties". It has highlighted how little those who claim to "love our country and want to uphold our traditions and culture" know about them.

You might want to wrap up warm under that bridge of yours....wouldn't want you catching a cold.

You don't need to. The wonder of Christ, is how He means so many things to so many men people

If you love pantomimes, the you really can't beat a full on Catholic saints' procession.

If you are a bit more highbrow, you can catch a Passion Play somewhere near you (exact location a mystery though).

And if you hate pantomimes, and fun in general, become a puritan.

Well, you offered in your OP to give the name of the school, to show there's truth in your story - but haven't. Nor have you yet managed to explain why changing the name of a December fair = banning use of the word Christmas. And the only person getting riled, it seems, is you, to judge by your increasingly testy responses.

Piggywaspushed · 10/11/2025 12:30

I was just filling on my food choices for a staff dinner.

I noticed it said 'festive menu'. The horror!

I went to what I think was an Easter parade in Spain, although there were a lot of men in Klux Klux Klan outfits
It was fun, but again mostly for the food and drink

I tried to buy a poppy last week and when I put my £1 in the tin I was handed copy of The Qran instead.

84 percent of people think you’re not being unreasonable and yet the majority of posters are having a go at you.
This is the problem with AIBU, it attracts those desperate to disagree with the OP no matter how uncontroversial the op is being!
