I’m alone this evening. No children no partner.

Im sitting on the sofa overwhelmed by what I could do (read, I don’t want to watch a show, draw…) that I’ve frozen and I’m doing absolutely nothing!

What does one do when they have a whole evening to themselves?

Why is it we dream of having a moment alone without the family and when we get the chance it feels like a paralysis.

I drink wine, listen to some excellent music and sing out very loud.

Neighbours hate it I'm sure.

FrodoBiggins · 26/10/2025 19:46

I normally put a podcast on and cook something elaborate which only I like (cooking is fun for me) and then eat that while watching sorting good or silly, then maybe read a magazine in the bath

Tryingatleast · 26/10/2025 19:46

I’m the same- list of things I’ve always wanted to watch, books I have ready to read, and then I flick so much and end up watching Friends or something!!!

Dillydollydingdong · 26/10/2025 19:48

Listen to nice music
Read - book, newspaper, stuff on phone
Phone a friend
Have a relaxing bath
Tv

Elfie111 · 26/10/2025 19:48

This is exactly like me. I read that that freeze state means you’re exhausted.

♥️

LividArse · 26/10/2025 19:51

I'm same tonight and too exhausted to focus. Sat scrolling with stuff on telly that I'm not even aiming to watch but is background.

Have a million things I COULD be doing if I wasn't so utterly mentally drained.

themerchentofvenus · 26/10/2025 19:51

Loud music, glass of wine, dance and sing! Might even vaccuum the carpets whilst dancing and singing.

Then I'd practice the piano. Perhaps lift some weights. Read a good book. A bath.

OMG i want a night to myself!!!

randomchap · 26/10/2025 19:52

Turn off all electronics, dim lights, pint of decent beer, listen to a favourite album or two all the way through

BettyBobble · 26/10/2025 19:53

Depends. I'm not single so if he's working away I'd typically do TV and takeaway or if I'm lucky my daughter brings my grandchildren to stay

DickDewey · 26/10/2025 19:53

I’d have a really long bath and a bit of a pamper.

JLou08 · 26/10/2025 19:54

Clean if the house isn't already spotless (I need it spotless to relax). Candle lit bubble bath with relaxing music, face mask, nice smelling creams, nails, movie and hot chocolate and maybe biscuits too.

I like this. Definitely do this too

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/10/2025 19:54

My dh is away for 2 nights this week. The kids will be here but they will leave me in peace. My plans are to eat salmon (dh doesn’t like it) and watch trashy tv (on prime tv , really trashy offerings on there!) and go to bed early. Twice in a row! Bliss!

Ticktockk · 26/10/2025 19:54

I can only dream! I’d probably watch a nostalgic movie from my youth and eat rubbish under a blanket.

GreyCarpet · 26/10/2025 19:58

Low lights, candles, beer and listen to good music.

Play my guitar and sing.

Sit in compete darkness and watch a horror film.

Have a takeaway.

Early night and listen to podcasts.

I have no problem occupying myself and no paralysis! I love it.

Are you Inspector Morse?

Seriously though, that sounds like heaven.

frozendaisy · 26/10/2025 20:04

Have a bath with a book
lotions all over
watch cheesy girl shit - Bridget jones

but I live with x3 males so indulge in the girl power tv when alone

Barney16 · 26/10/2025 20:13

Read, eat something on toast, dance to the radio, look on Rightmove for the house I'm going to buy when I win the lottery, do some yoga. If I'm feeling energetic go for a swim.

Breadandsticks · 26/10/2025 20:17

The house is spotless.

I had a bath earlier and had music on loud - it was so nice to not have to rush out the bathroom.

I looked at my DDs drum kit wishing I could play an instrument haha

Your right - I probably am exhausted but too excited to let this alone time pass me by so I’m refusing to sleep before 10!

I like the idea of playing an album right the way through.

I’ve opened a bottle of wine and having a glass.

Im doing oven pizza tonight though - wish I shopped around for some favourites and more interesting ingredients. Need a break from cooking.

I feel like such a big kid.

I would have bought in treats. Massive bath with bubbles, read my latest kindle book in there for an hour, then pour a large glass of wine, dog on knee, the usual. My Dh works shifts, so I have a lot of boring evenings to myself.

If it’s Friday, I tend to do stupid amounts of housework/sort out the insane amount of Tupperware I’ve accumulated/take all the stuff out of a cupboard, clean cupboard, put everything back. I cleared out the dog cupboard the other night, sorted a bag for the local rescue of stuff I’ll never use again. Maybe change the beds, do a load of washing.

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 26/10/2025 20:27

Go to bed. That's my top choice every single time. If DH is away so I don't need to cook, I'm in bed by 7.30 and asleep by 9. That's pure luxury to me!

But don’t you then wake up crazy early? I’d be wide awake by 3am!

limetrees32 · 26/10/2025 20:30

It's because you've no practice at having a free evening.
It's a sudden change of gear , leaves you floundering a bit.

GrassNeedsaMow · 26/10/2025 20:31

Hot bath, glass of wine, doom scroll uninterrupted on phone. Bliss!

Ah this is one of favourite things too!
The whole bed to myself...
