I’m alone this evening. No children no partner.

Im sitting on the sofa overwhelmed by what I could do (read, I don’t want to watch a show, draw…) that I’ve frozen and I’m doing absolutely nothing!

What does one do when they have a whole evening to themselves?

Why is it we dream of having a moment alone without the family and when we get the chance it feels like a paralysis.

Agree with this. Do you have nothing to your life outside of being a wife and mother?

I actually do a lot outside of being a wife and mother. I work, am very active in my community and have a side hustle. But I didn’t want to spend an evening doing any of that. Also there is always always someone at home. So when I get bored I’ll have a convo or we will find something to do.

So being at home on my own and doing something for me only is very rare. I didn’t realise how overwhelmed I would feel.

Anyways it was an early night - clearly needed.Right now I can’t wait for the next one …

It has been 2 weeks since you posted this OP, have you found any hobbies or things you enjoy on your own?

I don’t struggle to find hobbies or things to do. As mentioned I have a lot. For example I was drawing earlier and had the baby with me with crayons. I’m sewing a skirt for my mum over the next week and I spent the day catching up with a friend after attending another friends charity craft event. The day before OH cooked and we stayed in prepping the house as his younger cousins were crashing at ours. My life is very busy. But I’m always with people (if it isn’t the kids and OH, it’s work colleagues or … people).

What I struggled with was being home completely alone on that one night and genuinely not knowing what to do. I’m pretty good at fitting my hobbies and interests around my loud house. But I had a whole evening to myself and I didn’t know what to do with it. Looking back I think I just wanted to do everything I could possibly do whilst nobody was home - and got so overwhelmed I did nothing but post on MN, eat junk and fall asleep (abit of an anticlimax).

But I have had a good few week. Thanks

I haven’t been completely alone with nothing to do since that day 2 weeks ago.

Hopefully I’m more equipped for my next night in alone,
