Chemist doesn't sell loo roll

Today I went for a walk with my dog , on the way back I realised I needed to get paracetamol and toilet rolls and rather than drive somewhere I walked back home via the chemist.

I asked the owner and his wife where the toilet rolls were and they said they don't sell it.
I was rather shocked as the chemist had toothpaste , shampoo, pile cream, Imodium , bubble bath etc etc.

" A chemist without toilet rolls how bizarre" , I said in a loud voice.
" Come on Leonard , we are off ," I said to the dog ( As in Catherine Tate ) .
Am I being unreasonable?

have you got a petition to get chemist closed and staff sacked yet never known a chemist to do loo roll tissues maybe

Coffeetime25 · 26/10/2025 17:01

Alpacajigsaw · 26/10/2025 16:55

Can you maybe just drag your bum along the ground like Leonard?

that the plan for the protest to get the chemist to stock loo rolls next step is petition to cancel the chemist and sack the staff lol

Silvers11 · 26/10/2025 17:06

Saying what you did in a loud voice so that they could hear was very rude of you @Poodlelove - even if you thought (wrongly), that all chemist's must sell loo roll.

MrsClatterbuck · 26/10/2025 17:08

Our local chemist sells loo rolls, paper towels, tissues and all sorts of cleaning products. They are part of a chain. Not sure if the independent chemist sells them. Growing up the local chemist's didn't sell them as far as I remember.

Newspaper 🤣🤣

Like kitchen roll, is liable to block drains.

If you see no option, use minimal amounts in small pieces, and flush plenty of water after, such as pulling the bath plug.

It would be safer to use the Greek method of paper disposal. I suppose you could burn it if you have a coal or wood fire.

Or will it , certain nutty customers are definitely remembered.

True! Although I was trying to make the OP feel a bit better with the ‘it’ll be forgotten’ comment. But in all seriousness, I truly do think it will have been considered funny in the moment but not that funny that it will be remembered.

I thought it was just when you have diarrhoea, didn’t realise it was something you take regularly 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some people with IBS take Imodium. It slows down the movement of food through the gut.

I don't think the independent pharmacy in my village stocks loo roll, but it does sell a small range of cleaning products, birthday cards, coffee and tea to take away, sweets and biscuits, ice-cream and for a couple of weeks before Fathers Day, gift boxed tools. It is generally poorly stocked with toiletries and OTC medical items and does not open on Saturdays. Some days there is no pharmacist on site for a few hours in the morning or some afternoons so no prescription meds can be handed over at those times nor any OTC items that require a pharmacist to be on the premises.

DiscoBob · 26/10/2025 17:16

They probably don't sell toilet cleaner, air freshener, bleach etc so that makes me think they are not supplying anything toilet related. Illnesses, injuries, cosmetics, body care but nothing to do with actual toilets.

I know super drug does sell bog rolls as I bought them there in lockdown when supermarkets were empty.

I dont remember seeing loo rolls in my local boots branches, one small, one pretty big and can't see anything on their online shop either

ChubbyPuffling · 26/10/2025 17:22

I worked in a small independent community pharmacy.

We sold loo roll. Andrex plain, ordinary. Not much - except during covid, then we didn't bother unpacking it, just sold it from the delivery cage.

I just looked at their site.
Seems they don't anymore.
They definitely used to.

My mum used to work for Boots. We definitely had their lavvy roll. Things like washing up liquid as well if I remember correctly.
I only go to Boots these days for a meal deal.

Oh wow! Out chemist / pharmacy sells loo roll, kitchen roll, all cleaning materials like fairy liquid, bleach, Dettol, loo cleaner, air fresheners, dishwasher Tabs, carpet cleaner, along with OTC meds, makeup, shower bubble bath, shampoo, hair gel etc. And this just isn’t just one independent chemist, it’s all in my location.

Do I live in a different universe?!

Anyahyacinth · 26/10/2025 17:32

Never seen it in a pharmacy...just checked Boots and Lloyd's they don't sell it in a way you can view online

Cucy · 26/10/2025 17:33

I’ve never seen one that sells toilet roll, not even boots etc.

I’m guessing there’s a chance they’d sell baby wipes and nappies so I’d get some baby wipes but I’d have looked for a peri bottle or even a water bottle with a squeezey lid to use as a bidet if toilet roll was low.

That doesn't come up on the boots website for me, maybe you have to have an account with them to buy it

MysterySong · 26/10/2025 17:35

The old fashioned pharmacies used to, but they are all more clinical now. No point in them competing with the supermarkets.

Different universe for me then, boots in my area doesn't sell half that stuff and I'd have never thought of them for cleaning products

JackJarvisEsq · 26/10/2025 17:38

What you want is an old school Capaldis ice cream van that sells loo roll, nappies, askit powders, dog food and single cigarettes

they never let you down

That was an old picture from Google.
Looks like they don't sell it anymore.
To be honest Boots is one of those shops that's a bit random in what they sell.

DickDewey · 26/10/2025 17:45

Poodlelove · 26/10/2025 16:00

They always used to sell it when I would run in get that and Imodium as an emergency.
No corner shop , just Chinese , tattoo shop, hairdresser and coffee shop.

Strange on 2 levels. That you expect a chemist to sell loo rolls, and that you seem to frequently need Imodium.

I use (non branded much cheaper version) Imodium regularly.
It stops me needing high amounts of loo roll.
TMI.
Sorry 😂

BashfulClam · 26/10/2025 17:50

I wouldn’t expect a chemist to sell bog roll!

P00hsticks · 26/10/2025 17:51

lifeonmars100 · 26/10/2025 16:33

Why didn't you just buy a box of tissues to tide you over until you can get to a shop that does selll toilet roll ? How do you think people coped in the olden days when nearly all shops were shut all day on a Sunday?

Or possibly looked for wet wipes - they might have had those as they take up less space and probably have a higher margin).

FastFood · 26/10/2025 17:52

I went to a garage they didn't have butter how bizarre!
