Chemist doesn't sell loo roll

Today I went for a walk with my dog , on the way back I realised I needed to get paracetamol and toilet rolls and rather than drive somewhere I walked back home via the chemist.

I asked the owner and his wife where the toilet rolls were and they said they don't sell it.
I was rather shocked as the chemist had toothpaste , shampoo, pile cream, Imodium , bubble bath etc etc.

" A chemist without toilet rolls how bizarre" , I said in a loud voice.
" Come on Leonard , we are off ," I said to the dog ( As in Catherine Tate ) .
Am I being unreasonable?

They're trying to run a business.

This chemist is in walking distance of your home, and it sounds like this is the first time you have tried to buy bog roll there.

It gives a clue to local demand.

How often do you buy Imodium? I think I’ve bought it once and I’m 43.

Wha does it matter how often someone buys Imodium?

Tiredofwhataboutery · 26/10/2025 16:12

I don’t think I’ve seen loo roll in little dispensing pharmacies. I think it’d take up too much room. They do in larger boots / semi chem type shops but they tend to be bigger.

LlynTegid · 26/10/2025 16:12

Your response was wrong in my opinion.

BauhausOfEliott · 26/10/2025 16:23

I have literally never seen loo roll in a pharmacy.

Crunchienuts · 26/10/2025 16:29

I wouldn’t expect a chemist to have loo roll!

musicismath · 26/10/2025 16:30

I think it's batshit you can't get it in a chemist's! You could equally argue that other bathroomy things such as toothbrushes shouldn't be sold in a chemist's. Our local one sells it, as well as others I've been into in the past.

OP I bet you're not the only person who's tried to get it there...

BallerinaRadio · 26/10/2025 16:32

Fucking hell I'm embarrassed for the poor dog

lifeonmars100 · 26/10/2025 16:33

Why didn't you just buy a box of tissues to tide you over until you can get to a shop that does selll toilet roll ? How do you think people coped in the olden days when nearly all shops were shut all day on a Sunday?

NellieElephantine · 26/10/2025 15:41

Totally get you op, my village newsagents doesn't sell Chablis older than 2020.... heinous!

😂Your suffering is real!

TeaRoseTallulah · 26/10/2025 16:35

I can't even think where our Boots would stack loo roll, our local pharmacy doesn't sell it.

Cantheowneroftheredcorsapleasemovetheircar · 26/10/2025 16:37

Nope, definitely wouldn't expect loo roll in a chemist.
A packet of Kleenex maybe.

Edit: now I think about it, I don't think I've set foot in a chemist since 2017, and even then it's only because I worked next to one. So maybe I'm not the best person to answer.

QueenClinomania · 26/10/2025 16:38

I hope you're joking about your loud voiced how bizarre because you would have come across like a right twonk.

Just curious. Apologies my question didn’t meet your standards. I do love the mn post police who seem to think everyone has to respond how they would 🙄 it was a light hearted throw away comment. Maybe go and have a glass of wine and chill out a bit 🤷🏻‍♀️

Fairydustand · 26/10/2025 16:48

Kitchen roll will suffice if no loo roll is to be found.. I'm with you,how odd they don't sell it?..One of life's essential toiletries.

OP stock up from Amazon on their Prime days - I got 45 rolls Andrex recently for a bargain price - all delivered. There things make me very happy now.

FeralWoman · 26/10/2025 16:49

Chemists always sell toilet paper in my country. I’m not in the UK. It’s usually stacked near the front of the shop to tempt you in because you’ll see it and remember that you need some or it’s a great price, and then you might buy something else like skin care or vitamins. I always buy mine from a chemist because they’re the cheapest. Cheaper than Aldi.

Other items they might sell as a cheap item to tempt customers in include laundry detergent, dish detergent, paper towels/kitchen roll, toilet cleaner, and things like that.

Chemists sell medications and products to help you poo and stop you from pooing. Only makes sense that they sell the product to clean up after a poo.

Fairydustand · 26/10/2025 16:50

Exactly

AndStand · 26/10/2025 16:53

All my local chemists sell loo roll. I assumed they all did!

TheExcitersblowingupmymind · 26/10/2025 16:53

dizzydizzydizzy · 26/10/2025 16:01

As PPs have suggested - loo roll is bulky and low margin and they want to have space for small higher value items that are more at the core of their business like supplements and make up, and medical stuff like dressings Sorry OP, but they probably laughed their heads off after you closed the door. Nevermind, it'll all be forgotten by tomorrow.

Or will it , certain nutty customers are definitely remembered.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 26/10/2025 16:54

Could you buy bandages and use that instead of it's an emergency?

Alpacajigsaw · 26/10/2025 16:55

Can you maybe just drag your bum along the ground like Leonard?

99point6 · 26/10/2025 16:55

Chemists around here used to be the last bastion of coloured Andrex in 2 roll packs. Depending on size of shop, I would be surprised they didn't run to it.
Water company won't be happy with kitchen roll or tissues down the bog - if they manage to make it to the main drains.

Livpool · 26/10/2025 16:56

I haven’t seen toilet roll in a chemist for about 20 years! They are usually small premises and toilet rolls takes up a lot of space.

You were behaving like a passive aggressive twat saying loudly (to no one) that you thought it was odd they didn’t sell any
