To think the vinted sizing system is shit?

I’m finally going through and listing the black bag of
clothes that don’t fit me anymore after a substantial weight loss.

But the issue is a lot of them are listed as an L or XL on the label, but they’re not a size 12 or 14! So I have to list them in the incorrect size, because otherwise sellers can dispute it if it’s wrong. I’m making it clear in the description it’s a letter size, not a number, but it’s a right pain!

Yes. I hate the sizing! 12 is not a Large on any brand that I have in my wardrobe. I did wonder if they're based on US sizes but then those are 2 sizes different so a 12 in US would be 16 in UK which would probably be XL label?

Mum2twoandacockapoo · 27/09/2025 18:58

This is really annoying . Like a size 14 is a XL but where on the high street would that be ? L is usually a 14-16 XL is usually 16-18. It’s caught me out a few times .

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 27/09/2025 18:58

It does seem bizarre that you can’t just choose a letter OR a number size, surely can’t be too difficult to just have more options.

CookingFatCat · 27/09/2025 18:59

You’re right. It’s tedious. I would add measurements and be really clear in the description.

I just add a picture of the label and say “brand size X per the label”. It’s on the buyer then.

it’s just really frustrating because size 12 people will be seeing my 16-18 clothes!

hmmnotreallysure · 27/09/2025 19:04

Agreed! I think they need to have the sizing options of xs-xl etc plus 6-20 etc

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/09/2025 19:15

I find it a bit annoying as well! I’m 14 but none of my clothes are marked XL. Unless maybe from Zara!

HannahHamptonsGloves · 27/09/2025 19:31

As a buyer who is between sizes I find their sizing categories so frustrating. I am somewhere between a 12 and a 14. When things are sized S/M/L I'm almost always a M. But on Vinted that gives me size 10 clothes. Essentially I need to tick 10/M, 12/L and 14/XL to get the sizes that fit me, but that also includes loads of things that will be too small and too big!

Moltenpink · 27/09/2025 19:32

It’s so annoying isn’t it. I’m a 12/14 but I’d never buy an XL.

Dreamerinme · 27/09/2025 19:35

I always add measurements such as chest, lengths, and if it’s tight or loose fitting etc but I’ve noticed that very few people do this. I’ve never had anyone try to return anything so I presume it’s been helpful.

I bought a top advertised as a size 18 but what I got was a top that would have been a size 12 at an absolute push. I was so annoyed so I’m always careful now and ask for measurements if a garment looks small or big in the photos.

RobinEllacotStrike · 27/09/2025 19:36

I’m buying on Vinted due to weight loss.

That a size 14 is XL on Vinted is doing my
bloody head in.

I think the poster who said it’s based on USA sizing could be correct

NorthLion · 27/09/2025 19:36

Yea same. Really annoying. I make it really clear in the title, the body of text and include a close up photo of the label showing the size.

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 27/09/2025 19:37

Yes, v annoying. I ordered a dress listed as L expecting it to be a 12 and it was a proper L and unwearable

I feel like this works if you’ve got the time and/or aren’t selling a lot. I’m selling probably 30+ times due to weight loss, some of them are 4-5 years old, i don’t have the time to find measurements for every single one

I also hate that there is no way of filtering by eg petite or long. Feels like something that would be super easy to add.

henlake7 · 27/09/2025 20:34

Yup, very frustrating. I'm sure it would be simple enough to split the SML from the 10,12,14,etc.

I like short leg trousers and just add short to the search once I have filtered trousers colour size etc and find this helps. Same if you wanted a chunky cardigan or embroidered or something it picks up if seller added that in description

It really would.

But then the SML etc is so different across brands it would be a pain to do I suppose

Personally I always list as the size it actually is and then in the description write brand size X which is equivalent to size Y and have never had any issues

I’m listing per the label and just reinforcing that in the description

Oh I think I do it the opposite way round so if I think it's a 12 I list it as a 12 and then explain that the label actually says medium or whatever. This is probably the wrong way to do it according to vinted rules though

I think it is 😅 you need to do it as the label, so that if someone disputes it you can say “well it’s an XL and I listed it as an XL”

After battling with all of the sizing issues, I’ve accepted four offers and people aren’t paying 😩

It's a stupid system, when I first started using Vinted about three months ago I couldn't understand why a size 14 is XL, it's ridiculous, and very hard to find sizes and lengths etc too so you have to search through a lot more.
