I have moved back to my hometown…I went for a walk after dinner and I just fell in love all over again.
I walked out of my estate and made my way down to the end section of town, past the main hotel and b&b’s. There was a coach of people arriving at the hotel and the smell of dinner was in the air. The hustle and bustle was lovely.
I then passed through a mix of restaurants with more wonderful smells, all full with people sitting inside and out. It smelled amazing!!
Next was the amusement park and arcades, the music, the chiming sounds, the people laughing etc, the smell of cotton candy, and chocolate donuts.
Down along the prom where I passed lots of families some local and others on holiday, some eating fish and chips, others out for a walk, walking with families and their dogs etc.
the beach had people walking too, further out was a large group of people on a surf lesson.
…at the end of the prom there’s a row of cafes, restaurants and shops. People were sitting having a coffee, others coming back from a swim and dressed in dry robes.
The skate park was full of kids out practicing and having fun.
Up next was the mobile home holiday park, lots of families sitting out and kids out on their bikes and in the park.
After that was a long stretch that looked out over the strand and across to the next headland covered in fields. It was just beautiful 🙌
Back up around and to my estate. Just perfect!
I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I just felt so happy looking at everyone and everything around me, I thought it would be nice to have an appreciation thread. There’s enough negativity around at the moment.
please share your joys big or small 🥰

Aww this is such a sweet and positive thread! I love where I live too ❤️ a small town, near where I grew up, out in the countryside. We live in the town in a house I never thought we’d be able to own (it’s been a MASSIVE fixer upper) but we’re almost there with it. If I turn left out my lane, I am close enough to walk to a lovely deli, cafe, gift shop, bakery etc. Turn right, and I’m on a little country road amongst rolling hills. Lots of people would say we’re too rural, but it feels calm and peaceful here. The summer nights are endless and we can walk for miles across stubble fields, in the autumn we pick blackberries and make jam, in the winter we wrap up and go for hot chocolates. My child is happy, our lives are fulfilled, our families are close by, we have everything we need. Yes it rains 75% of the time, but as my husband says, I’m not made of salt, I’ll weather it 😂 besides, if we had the weather then everyone would want to live here, and I love how quiet it is!

I mean that’s nice n everything but what’s that got to do with being unreasonable or not?

Itsnotrainingatleast · 07/08/2025 21:14

It sounds really lovely. 🥰 I’m thinking it’s either in Sussex or Essex.

usersame · 07/08/2025 21:23

Is it Skegness? Or Margate?

Zov · 07/08/2025 21:25

Hepzibar · 07/08/2025 21:38

HelloHattie · 07/08/2025 21:40

Norfolk!

Yellowbirdcage · 07/08/2025 21:45

Sounds like it’s what means home to you. Did you have a happy childhood? I don’t think I would love to be back in my home town although I’m always a bit surprised when I go there and see it moved on without me!

I do love where I live now though. Even though it’s got a reputation for being a shite hole!

Eastbourne?

Glad you're happy OP, takes a lot to appreciate what's right in front of us.

I love where I live too, although I've loved all the different places I've lived in except one.

VintageMarket · 07/08/2025 21:57

Is it PortStewart?

Chompingatthebeat · 07/08/2025 22:01

Scunthorpe

Frecklebaby · 07/08/2025 22:05

I'm guessing Devon, because of the surfing lessons. (I'm in the south west and went to PGL in Devon many years ago now.)

qwertyasdfgzxcv · 07/08/2025 22:06

@Kitchenbattle you have to tell us where!

Westward Ho!?

Corrag · 07/08/2025 22:15

I love where I live too. No immediate neighbours, croft land all round us. Look out over a sea loch from the front of the house, mountain and waterfall behind us. Lovely views in all directions. I love watching the weather come in across the sea. Wildlife galore. Baby rabbit in the garden this morning, half a dozen deer at the back this evening. Often get dolphins in the loch, occasionally a minke whale. Wouldn't suit everyone as it's miles away from anything but for us it's heaven.
