I've always been 5 foot 6. Today I was measured at a medical centre and they told me I was 5 foot 4. The last time I was measured was 5 years ago and I was still 5 foot 6. I am going to double check my height

It is what it is. I’ve always been 5ft 10, recently measured at 5ft 9 so I guess I’ve shrunk
I never wanted to be tall but you get what you’re given!

AutumnFoxe · 31/07/2025 16:38

Probably just a boring mistake. Im 5'2. Always have been at every measurement. At my last midwife appointment they measured me and recorded my height as 5'6. I made them double check at another appointment as i knew this to be wrong and low and behold i am still 5'2 but their measuring device is out.

Surely a medical centre would measure your height in cm and not in feet and inches?

Unless they measured you using a stadiometer it's quite possible that the height they recorded is wrong. Some years ago my height was measured in hospital using what was effectievly a paper tape measure stuck to the wall and they told me I was 6cm shorter than I knew I was. I pointed out to them that the paper measure (which stahred at 25cm) had been stuck too high on the wall.

Anyway - who cares?

If they made a mistake and I am what I measured myself as thus morning, the. I am 5 foot 5 and a half and I sometimes wear heels of 2 and a half Ilnches which would make me 5 ft 7 and a half which makes me extremely hapoy

No. Wearing 2 and a half inch heels does not make you 2 and a half inches taller

MascaraGirl · 31/07/2025 16:13

Public inquiry or judicial review? Or maybe just a new tape measure?

I'm sure once they've gathered all the relevant evidence they'll know which direction they need to go.

ludicrouslycapaciousbags · 31/07/2025 16:55

Are you sniffing glue?

I've always admired tall women. I would be absolutely devastated if I was short

What a ridiculous thing to say! And bloody offensive.

Thanks for that, all us short people are bereft with sorrow.

Yes I was slouching because I Ve got a bad back. If they were doing their job properly they would have seen I was slouching and told british stand more upright. I reched it again at home this morning.Standing bolt uprght using a tape measure And it said I was 5 foot 5 and a 1/2 So I'm going to phone my GP surgery and have that recorded and double checked at the doctor's office. I'm not going to take what happened yesterday. As the reading

If you knew you were slouching why didn't you stand up straight?

Oblomov25 · 31/07/2025 17:18

I am very small and have shrunk because breaking my back in 4 places. Plus we all shrink and most lose 2-3 inches in old age, which happens earlier than you think, not just at say aged 80!

Idontjetwashthefucker · 31/07/2025 17:55

Don't get too involved, this poster has started a few 'odd' threads lately

Don’t be too heartbroken yet - the OP says the NHS system is faulty; I must be 5’5 instead of 5’3 then! Feel so much better about myself now.

thebrollachan · 31/07/2025 19:49

Were you moving at close to the speed of light relative to the person carrying out the observation? That would explain any apparent shrinkage.

So you can't add two and a half to five and a half and arrive at the correct answer...

PerkyOchrePeer · 31/07/2025 23:39

Ok so it's 5 ft 8 which I can pretend I am when I wear the shoes

I am 60 and 5 foot 3 and my dr measured me at 5 foot, he was concerned about my bones so sent me for a dexa scan. I am of course still 5 foot 3, but i didn't argue with him as I wanted the scan done.

You can pretend if it makes you happy, but you're not 5ft8 and never will be and it's good to embrace the height you actually are

bloodredfeaturewall · 01/08/2025 06:10

you also will be taller in the mornings.
keeping hydrated and keeping a strong posture (weight training!) are said to reduce shrinkage.

I know I'm not 5 ft 8. But with heels you can find out what it feels like to be that height. When I was 21 I had a pair of 3 inch heels. I was 5 ft 6 and with those heels it pushed me up yo 5 ft 9. I hated it because I felt too tall and had to bend down more when I went to the kitchen to make tea as I was too far away from the work top so I never wore such high shoes again

OP posts:
jumpingthehighjump · 01/08/2025 06:54

Not really sure what to say about that apart from just embrace the height you are and move on from it
