Height

I've always been 5 foot 6. Today I was measured at a medical centre and they told me I was 5 foot 4. The last time I was measured was 5 years ago and I was still 5 foot 6. I am going to double check my height

Surely you would have noticed by now if you suddenly can’t reach things in the supermarket anymore due to shrinking ? Or do you need to take measurements of your height to determine this

I was not talking about me.I was talking about other people. When I have been shopping Short people sometimes have said to me. I can't reach that up there. Can you get it for me?

OP posts:
jumpingthehighjump · 31/07/2025 14:32

What's wrong with asking someone to get something off a top shelf?

People haven't suddenly shrunk 3 inches in their sleep, they will be used to their height and having to ask

PerkyOchrePeer · 31/07/2025 14:36

jumpingthehighjump · 31/07/2025 12:25

No one you know will know what the medical centre measured you as, so what does it matter?

I have no idea what height I am. Don't care. Have shrunk a bit, just happy to be healthy

People will know if I tell them. And IM telling people, because I can't believe they Ve made such A mistake and your height is very necessary. Because especially with documents like a passport, you have to put down your height

Yes it does. Sane as it matters to some women who straighten their hair or some women who want to get a tan or some women who diet or colour their hair when it goes grey. And when you have been used to a certain height which is not short a d you start shrinking, you find it hard getting used to it. It's a different matter when you have only been short because as the saying goes what you've never had you don't miss. 5 foot 6 is not tall but it's certainly not short and ypu can be about 5 foot 8 with heels which is a bonus for women. Being short has disadvantages especially in the supermarket reaching stuff from things off shelves you can't reach

Yes but the height people see is the height you actually are, not the height one medical person happened to write down once! Were you planning on showing your friends and acquaintances your medical records? Is what's written on a form going to affect whether you can reach a shef in the supermarket?

In any case, did you say you have osteoporosis? That can definitely cause you to get shorter.

PerkyOchrePeer · 31/07/2025 14:39

If it doesn't matter what height you are, then they would not have taken your height measurements when I went for the scan.

What documents? You do not state your height for a UK passport.

Charlotte120221 · 31/07/2025 14:41

they are "looking into it" is code for they think you're a bit odd to have phoned about this.

honestly - you'd be devastated with being 5 4 but are delighted to be 5 5 and a half?

please phone the surgery back and ask how their investigations are going. perhaps suggest that their measuring device may be deficient and offer to lend them yours?

Yes, but that's specifically for osteoporosis. I'm pretty sure it's because the bones in your spine can compress when they lose density, naking you shorter. Otherwise height is not important.

They are looking into it to check their records to see what was written down 5 foot 5, and a 1/2 was what I measured this morning with my tape measure, standing against a wall. What can I say?

spoonbillstretford · 31/07/2025 14:46

What age are you?

Yoga might help. Have you noticed so many people have a hunched posture and a hump at the back of their necks?

22O725 · 31/07/2025 14:47

So you have osteoporosis and you were slouching but you are surprised the measurement differs from before?

PerkyOchrePeer · 31/07/2025 14:49

There are 12 inches in a foot. My tape measure is five foot long. When I stood against the wall, I put a marker at the top of my head and measured down from the marker to the floor. When I got to the end of the tape measure, which is 5 foot, I measured from that point down to the floor and it was another 5 and a 1/2 inches.

This thread has got to be a wind up.

fraughtcouture · 31/07/2025 14:56

Even by this poster’s inane standards, this is a ridiculous thread….

MascaraGirl · 31/07/2025 14:57

How about: I'm 9st 2lb at home, but if I weigh myself at the gym I'm 9st 4lb. Am i being unreasonable?

No, it's not important

And NO, you do not put your height down on a passport application. I think you used to a very very long time ago, but everything is facial recognition now.

Why are you telling people about this non event?

Seriously.... you must stop this.

Measuring against a wall with a tape measure is not accurate! Their equipment is.

Can I also suggest something... don't do online dating. My friend told me about one date where the guy said he was 6'0 and was about 5'4 !!

It would do your head in.

I put one foot on the floor and can make myself a stone less, it's great! 🤣😂

Yes, measuring your height with a tape measure against a wall can be accurate if done properly.

I've just phoned the place where I got measured and told them it's wrong si they are looking into it.

I hope they launch a full scale investigation.

RanchRat · 31/07/2025 15:34

Oldie here. I used to be 5'6 and recently learned I am now 5'3. Thought my BMI was good but now I am so short I need to lose half a stone.

Public inquiry or judicial review? Or maybe just a new tape measure?

CloudywMeatballs · 31/07/2025 16:18

I can't figure out if you are angry because you may have gotten shorter or because you think you haven't gotten shorter but they didn't measure you correctly.

But, seriously, you'd be devastated to be short? If this is real, I hope you are in therapy. If not you need it.
