To think the BMA have misjudged with another doctor's strike? Thread 2

Rolling this over as people still seem to have something to say but no new poll.

Original post

AIBU to think the BMA have misjudged with another doctor's strike?

Last year they got more than anyone else in the NHS along with an improved deal. Nurses and other AHPs received lower rises.

BMA have just announced another 'resident' doctor strike continuing to chase pay restoration to 2008 levels.

Having just had the major win with changes to IMG prioritisation and the clamp-down on PAs it feels a bit tone-deaf and I can't see Streeting going for it.

I said another poster

You said another poster on another thread so you can’t know. Although the point is made stronger if it is another second poster so your own point is an own goal.

Not at all it was an observation. You really need to take time out from the keyboard.

Also your unpleasant, derogatory remarks about @mumsneedwine are concerning.

Sevillian · 16/08/2025 13:36

I flit in and out and spend remarkably little time on MN.

So you and mumsneedwine have a licence to tell other people they post rubbish but no poster can return the favour? That’s not how it works. Indeed I used mumsneedwine’s own terminology so I don’t think she can possibly take offence. Do as you would be done by as my own father might have said.

Sevillian · 16/08/2025 13:37

Also I’m on a boat at the moment. Excellent signal out here. WhatsApping, MNing, reading the news. It’s all good thanks 👍

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2025 14:03

They love me @PurpleFairyLights 😂😂. And obviously going to Oxford makes you a better person 🫩. Really can not believe there are still people who actually believe this elitist rubbish. I send lots of students to Oxbridge for medicine every year (9 this year) but no one thinks they are better than anyone else. They mostly go because it's cheap and they are interested in research. And because the WP do such a great job.
Many of the very bright students don't like the old fashioned nature of the courses, and some are put off by the arrogance they have encountered there on outreach days. We spend a lot of time at our link colleges every year and they try so hard to not be seen as elitist they'd be v sad to hear that people still believe this. They are different. And cheaper.
Surely with your extensive WP experience Seville you know the link outreach do everything they can to disagree with you ?

I most certainly have mentioned at least two DC previously mumsneedwine.

So wrong, yet again (I’ve genuinely lost count of the number of statements you’ve made which your Dad would say were round spherical objects. You just seem to come out with made up nonsense time and again and then go silent as your so called stats are shot down and your internally contradictory claims are called out).

Edited

Please tell me when my stats have been shot down (& never my stats but usually BMJ or GMC ones). And where I have contradicted myself.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2025 14:09

@ThePure I can see that if only 6 then you might know all their destinations - would they all put you as a referee though and not another consultant (it's 2/3 out of 6 + ES?). But the other poster said 60% etc so must have been a fairly large cohort of F2s to have such accurate stats. My DD has not gone back and told her previous consultants where she's going. Although one did send her a magnum of champagne as had heard from other F2s she'd got into training in her speciality which was v kind.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2025 14:10

Oh and I've been a bit silent as my mum died.

There is nothing elitist about encouraging young people to go to an institution where they will receive an education of the highest quality in the world, not just the UK, since that is precisely what will facilitate social mobility. Nothing of what I’ve said is anything other than that. All those involved in outreach at Oxford and Cambridge know that this is the exact point of widening participation. God knows what you believe the point to be, if not to help lift clever young people out of poverty.

Too numerous to cite but if you read over the five or six related threads you’ll see your statements have been disproved time and again.

Disproved by who? The self proclaimed supernova of intellect amongst the candles?

It is quite sad to see someone who appears to look down on others.

By a myriad of people, the vast majority of whom are senior consultants.

Read the threads PurpleFairyLights, if you wish to comment sensibly. Otherwise maybe remove yourself because you appear super keen to derail with personal insults.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2025 14:51

@PurpleFairyLights the way this person argues is to be rude and say everyone else has been proved wrong. Whilst providing no evidence of this. Ever. How dare we mere mortals have the temerity to argue with them ! They never provide facts, just rudeness.
And thanks, it's been a weird few weeks. But life goes on. And my mum used to read these threads and have some v choice words for the stupidity on them. She was insanely proud of her grandkids coming from a background where leaving school
at 15 was a necessity.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2025 14:52

@Sevillian personal insults ?? If that's what means you need to leave the thread, off you trot. You are so rude it's quite scary if you are actually allowed near young humans. If you disparage them like you do on here it's v v sad.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2025 14:57

And again. WP is not about poverty. It's about widening participation from all areas of society. Yes, one aspect is socio-economic but many WP students come from middle class, quite wealthy backgrounds. Young carers, first in family to go to Uni (yes, you can be rich having not done a degree), refugee, ethnicity. It's not all about money.

Ok well off the top of my head a poster named sendsummer took your so called statistics apart on the original thread (whichever one that was - can't remember the name; they've all morphed into one).

Since then, on each every thread, various consultants have called out your arguments as being flawed and linked to research which corroborates that. Those same consultants have also called you out repeatedly for your astonishing rudeness to other, perfectly civil, posters. A consultant's partner has also been fairly dogmatic in undermining your arguments/ posts very effectively.

I think you'd be hard pushed to find a post where I've doled out a single personal insult along the lines of yours and those of PurpleFairyLights. It would be great if you could try to be polite to those challenging what you say.

You are discribing yourself perfectly.

I remember there were one or two that said they were consutants not a "myriad".

I was not impressed by anything they posted at any point. It would take far more to impress me.

Sevillian · 16/08/2025 15:07

Your own subsequent posts suggest that you didn't understand what these others posters were saying PurpleFairyLights. I think that's the problem. If you check back you'll see what I mean: your own posts are the evidence for what I've just said.

mumsneedwine it's overwhelmingly about disadvantage and money plays an absolute pivotal role in that. You say extraordinary things for someone who claims to be actively helping social mobility.

Sevillian · 16/08/2025 15:13

And I'm now going ashore :)

I have hardly posted on this thread. Mainly because you are here and your posts shut down any debates and try to control the narrative.

You have made very unpleasant comments to @mumsneedwine and @needmoresleep but that is your modus operandi.

Sevillian · 16/08/2025 15:22

Well in that case I seem to be in good company PurpleFairyLights since a lot of other posters seem to be in the same 'pack' (your fairly curious word, not mine). mumsneedwine and Needmoresleep have said things which are 100% worthy of being challenged and a number of posters have done exactly that. No poster in the 'pack' I'd identify with has been actively rude on this thread. Sharp maybe, not rude and not personal. That's all I'm going to say. You can continue to show yourself up if you like but it's incredibly dreary for everyone else and appears to be a not very sophisticated attempt to derail, because you aren't able to counter any arguments.

I'll stick to the substance as I have been doing all along, apart from this minor foray.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2025 15:36

Please go ashore. Again, not one shred of evidence, just here-say. And unpleasantness.
Your knowledge of WP is woeful.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2025 15:37

Evidence from peer reviewed sources. Not posters on MN. V easy to do if you are not just spouting your own views.
