Bikini wax on period am I mad ?!

jimmyeatworld · 20/07/2025 17:37

Going away the weekend, high bikini wax booked in for tomorrow morning and of course, I came on yesterday. Is it going to be torture ?! I mean it’s always painful anyway, but is it ridiculously painful?
So annoying as I don’t use tampons either and now I need to go and buy some just for this !
Aibu? Should I just leave it ?!

My salon have always been really open and un-bothered about periods, even doing full Brazilian. Completely happy for you to wear a tampon and they just move the string out of the way as they go. They do warn you might be more sensitive to pain but that's the only issue.

Whatever you decide to do I hope you have a lovely break!

Fuzzyblank · 20/07/2025 18:36

I’ve had a Hollywood on my period before! I wore a fresh tampon and tucked the string inside as per my waxers instructions. When I checked prior, she asked if I was super heavy or not and just advised a shower before I come and tampon in. And a few ibuprofen. It was a non-issue.

What happens if the wax sticks to the string and gets pulled out? Would the therapist have to move it out of the way?

Would you be wearing high wasted bikini bottoms while on your period if you don't use tampons?

The string will be tucked inside her underwear. Even a thong would cover the string.

There are absolutely no hygiene issues with having this done.

Pain score, no idea, but just take two paracetamol.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 20/07/2025 18:59

I’m so confused. What’s the problem ? You hide the string up yer bum crack and it feels the same (to me anyway)?

Bikergran · 20/07/2025 19:00

Just don't. It really does hurt more. Better mid-cycle.

This is the thing, for me anyway, it fucking kills anyway, well the last one did at least !
So I’m wondering how much more could it possibly hurt ?!
I think I’m just going to go for it, shower, tampon and I don’t even need to remove my underwear, I think I’d feel differently if it was a Brazilian or something though !

Honestly, I didn't notice any difference in the pain.

Lovesacake · 20/07/2025 19:57

I haven’t done this since the time the tampon was waxed right out of me by accident. Was mortifying. I had in quite big knickers too but a tiny bit of string must have escaped.

Cosyblankets · 20/07/2025 19:59

jimmyeatworld · 20/07/2025 17:57

Yes this is all I want, just the edges removing. The last time I had a Hollywood I was suprised she used strips and basically ripped my skin off, put me off for life 🤣

Omg strips for a Hollywood! Who on earth does this!
I'm past periods by now but my salon day just use a tampon. It's a specialist waxing salon not a general salon. They'd be horrified at strips for this

I’m sorry but 🤣🤣🤣 that is hilarious !! Obviously not for you nor the therapist I’m guessing !!

I’ve had plenty of Brazilians on my period. It was fine.

It hurts more because you only go for holidays. The more you go the easier it is. It's a vicious circle🤣

MyDadWasAnArse · 20/07/2025 20:03

I find it excruciating just before and at the beginning of my period.

I know I was like omg 😧 but couldn’t get in anywhere else and it was one of those cheap beauty places, she was 9 months pregnant and said she does hers herself all the time even whilst pregnant, I was struggling to understand how she could even see let alone the extra pain with all that blood flow to the area. I was squirming so bad, my vulva was on FIRE for hours !!

Ahh this is what they say, but every single time I swear never again, yet here I am 😬

I wouldn’t think twice. I’d put in a tampon and cut off the string. I do this anyway before a Hollywood wax.

Rosebud987 · 20/07/2025 20:07

I get a Brazilian every 5 weeks and it sometimes lands on my period. Fresh tampon in and she works around it. It’s in her FAQ’s though and she literally is an intimate waxer not a beauty therapist.

Honestly it's true.
After covid lockdown was painful!

WaxyMcWaxerson · 20/07/2025 20:09

Sorry very specifically what type of wax are you having?

Are you having a g-string wax - which means they will be near your labia but do not wax your actual labia?

Or are you just having a bikini wax so in theory you could even just leave your knickers on and move them to the side?? (Probably not advised but possible)

The latter I wouldn't think twice about going on my period from the perspective of the therapist

It’s a high bikini, so they take off all the sides but also including going in towards the pubic bone

Why the fuck would you even consider it?

I regularly have a Hollywood whilst on my period. The therapist is fine with it, i wear a moon cup. First time it happened I messaged her and she was absolutely fine with it and encouraged me to come as normal.
